Dennis hopes you can help find his stolen eBike:
On the 10th of this September I was working out at the YMCA at 3622 SW Snoqualmie St and when I went out to the bike rack, the chain had been cut and the bike was gone. I estimate that the theft occurred at about 5 PM on that day.
It’s a 2013 black OHM with a BAFANG motor connection. It says OHM on the frame. It’s a 20” frame with 28” wheels. It has a Topeak bag on the back where the battery is stored. It has a little tiny brass bell on the handlebars and a brown Brooks saddle with a rain cover.
The folks at the bike shop told me that oftentimes someone will ride an eBike and then dump it when the battery runs out since they can’t charge it at that point.
The SPD incident # is 18-341341.
9:29 AM: If you’ve noticed the police presence in/around Lincoln Park – we just went down to find out. Officers say a man tried to rob the gas station/mini-mart just north of the park and might have fled into the park, so that’s why they’ve been searching. The description broadcast on police radio: “Light-skinned black male, light facial hair,” wearing a baseball-style cap over a pulled-up hoodie with three reflective strips on it and cut-off sleeves, black pants, running shoes. If you have any information, call 911.
9:33 AM: Our crew subsequently went over to the gas station, where they were told it wasn’t an attempt, it was indeed a robbery, and the robber got away with some money. Detectives are there talking with them now.
Have you seen that white Chevrolet Tahoe? It was stolen last night in West Seattle. Plate AIP0892. If you see it, call 911.
Tuesday night, the West Seattle Crime Prevention Council resumes monthly meetings after summer break – and it’s all about you. WSCPC president Richard Miller tells WSB the agenda is simple: Updates from local police, followed by open time for you to ask police questions and voice crime/safety-related concerns. It’s a unique chance to talk with police face to face, 7 pm Tuesday (September 18th) at the Southwest Precinct (2300 SW Webster).
Just checked the files on high-profile West Seattle criminal cases we’re following:
EDIXON VELASQUEZ MURDER: The two people charged in this deadly shooting one year ago in Westwood were back in court this morning. A new trial date, January 15th, has been set for Anna Kasparova, an ex-girlfriend of the victim who is alleged to have lured him to his death, and Abel Linares, accused of shooting Velasquez outside his home.
RYAN COX: It’s now been 13 months since this repeat offender was arrested and charged with stabbing a man in Gatewood. Back in July, Cox was found competent to stand trial. At a hearing this morning, the date for his trial was postponed again; pending what emerges at a readiness hearing on October 19th, his trial is tentatively set to start November 5th. His lawyer moved for the delay, according to the document filed after today’s hearing, so they could complete “witness interviews.”
From Rebecca:
Hoping to get some helpful eyes out for our white 1994 Toyota Corolla, license plate AEV0208, stolen overnight from the street near our home in the Roxhill neighborhood. We’ve notified police and would really like to find it – it’s got our toddler’s only car seat in back!
Call 911 if you see it.
Two car-prowl reader reports, including one in which somebody else’s suitcase was left behind:
FROM DUSTIN: “We live on 9000 block of 8th Ave SW. Our car was prowled (this week). Our neighbors car was prowled 2 nights (earlier). Both vehicles were unlocked. Shortly after I opened our recycle can this morning I found a Samsonite suitcase full of women’s clothes. (Presumably from the culprits who were in our vehicle). I wanted to see if someone else was robbed of these items to get them back to the proper owner. I filed a police report, but they did not want the suitcase and clothes.” (If these might be yours, contact us and we’ll connect you.)
FROM ALICE: “Just want to report a car prowl that likely happened between 11:45 pm on 9/12 and 8 am on 9/13. This happened near the intersection of California Ave SW and Bradford St SW. My car was parked on Bradford adjacent to Belli Capelli. My car door and trunk were ajar this morning. They stole a bachelorette gift, rollerblades, and sunglasses.”
7:23 AM: Junction coffee (etc.) shop Sound & Fog (4735 40th SW) is opening late this morning because it got hit by burglars. Proprietor Justin says he’s trying to get the shop open by 8 or 9. He sent the photo above showing some of the damage.
8:24 AM: Open.
Five bicycles in this West Seattle Crime Watch roundup:
THREE BIKES STOLEN: Emily hopes you will be on the lookout for three bicycles stolen from her in the 4400 block of 46th SW:
1. Giant Intrigue
2. Giant Trance X1
3. Felt ZW95
The frames are all light-colored. SPD incident # is 2018-338047.
FOUND IN LINCOLN PARK: Lorraine sent the photo:
She saw the bicycle in “a small clearing 100 yards north of south parking lot, next to large fallen tree, also very close to Fauntleroy Way.”
PREVIOUSLY FOUND, NOW WITH PHOTO: We mentioned before that Diane had foun a FELT Z80, blue with white handles, in the bushes near her house. Now, she has a photo:
If thieves take your bicycle – and/or anything else – please be sure to file a police report, to increase the chance of a reunion if someone finds it! Then let us know too.
Saturday night, we received a few messages about a police search, guns drawn, near California/Alaska in The Junction, including the photo above. We weren’t able to find out at the time what the search was about, but we found an incident number and requested followup information today. SPD tells WSB that a man with a gun was reported to have threatened a group of people. No shots fired, no one hurt, but officers found and arrested a suspect. The 40-year-old man remains in jail, under investigation for potential charges including unlawful use of a weapon for intimidation.
From Kristin:
We were reviewing our Nest cam from (Wednesday) night and noted that the car parked in our driveway (which abuts the alleyway) behind 12th Ave SW near Holden was broken into and rifled through. We had 0 things of value in there. We believe the thief probably just came across trash, basically, but … here’s a link to the video clip.
The prowler comes into view at the upper left just before the one minute mark, and goes back off-camera about a minute and a half later.
Three reader reports in West Seattle Crime Watch:
CAR BREAK-IN: Mike reports, “My Chevy Equinox was broken into (Monday) night right in front of my house on 51st Ave. They took a box of cleaning supplies, and my old Samsung tablet.”
PURSE THIEF ON VIDEO: This is a followup to Lynette‘s report of a car prowler taking her purse and keys. She has the thief on video making off with the purse. It’s not embeddable so you’ll have to click here to see it.
BICYCLE DUMPED/LIKELY STOLEN: The photo was texted along with the report:
Spotted in alley around the corner from Central Park Condos at California/Alaska.
Even more reader reports. Hope you can help make reunions happen. Maybe even arrests.
STOLEN BLACK CR-V: From Scott:
My car was just stolen (less than 2 hours ago) from Schmitz Park School area. Its a 2003 Honda CRV black, black wheels, All Terrain tires, lifted about 3 inches over stock so NOT your average CRV. Plate # BCK 6863. Police have been notified.
Scott adds that the CR-V “didnt have carrier basket on top when stolen.”Call 911 if you see it.
And two more bicycles in the “found, likely stolen/dumped” files:
FOUND RED BICYCLE: From Jenny:
Outside my apartment this morning. Westhaven Apartments at 2401 SW Holden Street.
FOUND GREEN BICYCLE: From PM:
This bike has been sitting near by house for almost 2 days now and I think it was likely stolen and dumped here (High Point, off of Cycle Drive). Looks like it is a Fuji Supreme (green).
If you think a bicycle shown here might be yours, let us know.
4 reader reports in West Seattle Crime Watch:
STOLEN KAYAK: From Alex:
My kayak was stolen from the roof rack of my car on the night of Sept. 2. It’s a dark green NC-15 with yellow seat. My car was parked on 48th Ave SW. Police report is T18010975. We’ve had a streak of car/yard prowls in the recent weeks.
STOLEN BIKE: From Trissa:
We live on Pigeon Point which is experiencing a recent spike in thefts from sheds & yards. Sometime during the week of August 18-26th, someone stole our son’s bike from our front shed. We didn’t notice it was missing right away, so we didn’t check our security footage before it was recorded over. … Since others have had luck getting their bikes back, here’s a picture. The serial number which is embossed on the bottom of the frame is AHAX8J6025. It is a Haro 16” Flightline mountain bike. The police case number is 2018-907913.
STOLEN PURSE/KEYS: If you see a green crossover purse cast aside somewhere … it might be Lynette‘s purse, stolen from her car. She’s canceled her credit cards but is hoping the purse might still contain some keys she would really like to get back.
FOUND BIKE: Diane found a likely-stolen-and-dumped bicycle described as “a racing bike, FELT Z 80, blue, with white handles. It was stuffed in the blackberry bushes behind my house, in the alley.”
So far today we’ve had one bicycle reunion. How about another? Be on the lookout for SGK‘s stolen bicycle:
My bicycle was stolen from my backyard (30th and Myrtle) the night of 9/2. It a blue GT with yellow decals. Flat handlebar, thumb shifters, Ultegra shifting and a very worn seat with white tape on the nose.
We’ll add the police report # when we get it.
From the WSB inbox, two reports of dumped-and-likely-stolen bicycles:
34TH/ROXBURY: From Cass:
This red Sekine bike showed up in our yard this morning. I’m hoping the owner reads the blog and can get it back. It’s on the Roxbury side of the 34th SW and SW Roxbury corner.
EMMA SCHMITZ OVERLOOK: Sent anonymously:
Seen while walking in Emma Schmitz park – at the bottom of the north end of the “soon to replaced” sea wall – stolen and dumped? – looks like the brand is Nishiki.
UPDATE: This bike’s been reunited with its owner, per comments!
BACK TO ORIGINAL REPORT: (We hope it never happens to you but if your bike – or anything else! – is stolen, PLEASE report it to police – if it’s found but there’s no record, they can’t make a match. Here’s how. And then please let us know so we can include it in Crime Watch – thank you!)
Thanks for the tips about that big police response midblock on California SW between Alaska and Edmunds. We got there just as they were wrapping up. They tell us they were called about a man harassing passersby and people in businesses; when the first officers on the scene made contact with the suspect, he was uncooperative and they called for backup. He is now in custody; no injuries reported.
A reader texted that while on business in the Luna Park area off Manning this morning, they found empty Amazon packages, possibly evidence of theft. The addresses were for an apartment in the 2200 block of Alki, a house on the 5600 block of 37th SW, and the Amazon Locker outside Jefferson Square Safeway. They called police but absent reports from the theft victims, the calltaker would only refer them to the illegal dumping hotline. So the finder asked us to put out a general package-theft alert.
Two West Seattle Crime Watch notes:
GUARDIAN ONE: Thanks to those who messaged us a few minutes ago that the law-enforcement helicopter was in the Westwood area; it wasn’t showing on flight tracker so we didn’t know until then. We checked in with them on Twitter and the reply: “Assisted Seattle PD with taking a felony suspect into custody near Westwood Village.”
STOLEN CAR: Alex e-mailed this report a short time ago: “My car was stolen outside of Southwest Youth and Family Services, at 25th SW and SW Alaska St. Blue Ford Taurus, 2005, WA license plate AVD0257. There is a Rover.com magnet on the back that may have been peeled off.” Call 911 if you see it. (SATURDAY UPDATE: Alex says his car has been recovered.)
The photo and report are from Lauren, whose house was burglarized this morning:
We live in the Gatewood neighborhood on California Ave SW and SW Webster. While my boyfriend and I were at work, the house was broken into via the back door. It was kicked in and the panels that create the lower portion of the door collapsed. The only thing we have found stolen at this time was my wooden standing jewelry box/cabinet.
I’m pretty upset because most of my jewelry was not expensive, but sentimental. They got my watches, hair combs, costume jewelry, and some select few pieces of nice jewelry. I will keep an eye on the blog in case random bits get trashed or left in an alleyway, etc. The window for the break-in occurring was very small- I left for work at 7:30 am and my boyfriend returned at 11:30 am to meet a repairman for our dryer.
We’ll add the police report # when we get it from Lauren. (Update: 18-323552)
Two reader reports from recent early-morning incidents:
ADMIRAL PACKAGE THIEF: The video is from Jeff:
He says that was recorded at 4:37 am Tuesday in an Admiral neighborhood.
PROWLER IN A CONVERTIBLE: From C:
Sunday night at 3 am (8/26), I called the cops on a prowler across from the Delridge P-Patch community gardens. The police showed up shortly after the prowler got in his yellow convertible and drove off headed north. Hopefully they caught the guy! Black hoodie was his only identifier.
A new firefighter at Seattle Fire Station 32 in The Triangle helped police catch a suspected drunk driver after a hit-run crash in front of the station. It happened around 5:20 pm Tuesday; a 34-year-old woman was in the crosswalk with her dog when a pickup-truck driver hit her. As we learned from a tipster later – confirmed today by SFD – firefighter Felton Tate got a description of the truck and driver and provided it to police. With that information, SPD found the 26-year-old suspect at his home a few blocks away. The report says the suspect acknowledged to the officer that he had been involved in the collision. The report says police found “what appeared to be an empty case of beer in the passenger seat of the vehicle.” The driver, police say, showed signs of intoxication, so he was arrested. The report says he refused a breath test until more than three hours after the crash – police were by then pursuing a warrant to draw blood – and at that time, the report says, his breath tests came in at .12. He was booked into jail, where the register shows he is still in custody, in lieu of $5,000 bail. The victim, meantime, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Not guilty” was the plea this morning at the arraignment of 16-year-old Loyan A. Ahmed, charged as an adult with second-degree murder in the August 9th bus-stop shooting of 37-year-old Taylor Fehlen. As reported here two weeks ago, detectives say the ORCA card Ahmed used on the bus led police to him, and that they heard from his mother – who told them she had seen his photo here – as they closed in. According to court documents from this morning’s hearing at the King County Courthouse, Ahmed’s lawyer asked Superior Court Judge John Chun to prevent media from photographing the defendant’s face, and the judge granted that motion. Ahmed is due back in court September 12th.
