West Seattle, Washington
06 Sunday
The report and photo were sent by Patti:
Stolen and missing: a brown 2008 Ford Ranger pickup with a camper shell and roof rack, C89334U.
Today we found insurance papers for a vehicle from South Seattle in the middle of a street in North Admiral. When contacting the owner, they realized their vehicle had been stolen, probably on July 4. The owners ask for help in locating the vehicle in case it is still in West Seattle.
Call 911 if you find it.
Reader report sent by CW:
Around 7 am on June 21, 2025, someone with the master key broke into the USPS mail boxes for our townhome complex and stole everyone’s mail.
This incident was not the first time our cluster box unit (CBU) had been broken into. Around 6:30 am on November 27, 2024, someone with a master key broke into our CBU, but during that break-in, an image of the mail thief was captured by a door camera.
After the second incident, we decided to reach out to the U.S. Postal Service, to ask if our CBU could be re-keyed.
A supervisor at the West Seattle branch informed me that it would be impossible to re-key our CBU because all CBUs sharing the same zip code have the same master key, and all of the CBUs in our area would need to be re-keyed.
The supervisor recommended calling and filing a report with the US Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455, option 3.
There’s also an option of filing the report online at mail theft.uspis.gov
While searching the Internet for information, we learned why it’s important to report stolen mail to the US Postal Inspection Service.
There are over 139,000 mail collection bins and 16.5 million CBUs in use across the country, and the U.S. Postal Service is planning to strategically replace only 49,000 traditional locks with higher-security electronic locks, in areas identified as high postal-crime areas.
With USPS master key fetching $1,000 to $7,000 on the dark web, we don’t see mail theft going away any time soon.
We wanted to share the above information with the other residents of West Seattle so they would know whom to call if their mail is stolen.
If you have any tips for the USPIS, CW says the confirmation numbers they received for these two incidents are 38105618 and 38105621.
10:51 PM: Though much of what’s been reported to police as “possible shots fired” in recent nights has been fireworks, one tonight actually was gunfire: Officers just told dispatch they’ve found casings at 27th SW/SW Cambridge, near Roxhill Park. No injuries reported.
5:19 PM THURSDAY: The police summary reaffirms that no injuries were reported; no property damage either. Officers wrote that they recovered 10 casings “in the middle of the road.”
Two Crime Watch notes this afternoon:
STREET ROBBERY: A woman was robbed in the 9000 block of 35th SW just after 8 pm last night, according to a police report. We obtained the narrative, which says the victim was outside an apartment building talking with several other people when a man walked up to her, demanded she give him money, then punched her in the head and threatened to kill her. A woman subsequently approached and kicked her in the ribs while trying to take her purse. The two left after stealing some cash from the victim, who did not want medical assisstance. The robbers are described as a Black man in his 50s, 6’6″, medium build, wearing a baseball cap and light-colored clothing, and an Asian woman in her 30s, 5’4″, heavy build. Police noted in their report that the nearby apartment building “does have video footage of the incident (but officers were told) by staff that they will only release video footage with a subpoena.”
MURDER SUSPECT’S WEST SEATTLE TIES: The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced today that it has charged a man with murder in an Auburn shooting death a little over a month ago. Skimming the charging documents – sometimes a non-WS case will have a WS link – we recognized the suspect’s name, Kyree-Brian A. Jackson; he was arrested in Arbor Heights a little over a year ago after allegedly pointing a gun at people who tried to intervene in a suspected domestic violence incident in his car along a Fauntleroy street. As we noted at the time, Jackson had an extensive record and had just gotten out of prison six weeks earlier. He is now charged in an Auburn shooting death in late May that prosecutors describe as related to a gang dispute. Reading all the way to the end of the documents, the police report from the new case reveals that Jackson was taken into custody last Friday in West Seattle – at or near the state Department of Corrections field office on 35th SW just south of Morgan. His residence is listed on the police report as at an address in Kent. The victim in the Auburn murder case, 21-year-old Keivon Bias, was described as having been killed in an “ambush.” As far as we can tell from online records, Jackson was never charged in the Arbor Heights incident; there could be a variety of reasons for that, so we’re following up to see if police ever referred the case to prosecutors. His bail in the Auburn murder case is set at $5 million.
(Wednesday 7:03 pm update: KCPAO spokesperson Casey McNerthney checked for us. Police indeed did not refer the case for a felony review. But it did go to the City Attorney’s Office, which filed two “unlawful use of weapons” charges. More than a year later, that case has yet to go to trial, with the next hearing planned later this month.)
6:53 PM: For the past three or so nights, police have been trying to catch a group speeding around West Seattle in the same stolen car. Today, they took the unusual step of asking us to circulate a description of this car, in hopes somebody will spot it – parked or moving. It’s a 2018 white four-door Hyundai Elantra, no plates, usually seen with four ski-masked people on board, traveling 70 to 80 mph, no lights. They have pursued it, police tell us, but unsuccessfully. We asked police if there are any other distinguishing features you would notice, but they said no. If you think you see it – again, either moving or not – call 911.
7:57 PM: Update – the vehicle has been recovered, police just told us.
12:01 PM: Historic Kenyon Hall, the event venue in Sunrise Heights, is just beginning a summer-long closure this week for some much-needed renovation work (as explained here). One part of that work involves the hall’s iconic Mighty Wurlitzer sign – heralding its beloved pipe organ – part of which is suddenly missing, because somebody stole it:
It is one half of the Mighty Wurlitzer sign that was stolen over the weekend. We are in the process of refurbishing the sign to re-hang during the remodel. We are asking it be returned, no questions asked. This sign is part of a registered City of Seattle historical site and is very important to the history of the building. The missing piece is 8 feet by 18 inches.
The sign is made of “wood pressboard.” We’re told it was leaned up against the south-neighboring building (home to The Westy) when taken. If somehow you’ve found yourself in possession of the sign and don’t know where Kenyon Hall is so you can return it – 7904 35th SW.
2:17 PM: The sign has been recovered. Just heard from the Kenyon Hall volunteer who sent the original report. She says:
Sign was FOUND!!!! By a kind neighbor who was at EC Hughes Playground with their kiddo and saw it in the encampment area.
1:37 PM SUNDAY: Police are in the 2100 block of SW Thistle right now investigating a gunfire report. Though they haven’t found casings so far, one witness reported seeing someone firing a gun from a “dark gray sedan,” aiming toward a group of people standing in the area, then heading westbound on Thistle. (That’s one of the criteria for confirming a “possible gunfire” report – someone saying they saw a gun being fired. In this case, officers told dispatch, the witness “described a revolver.”) No report of injuries or property damage. If you have any information, the incident number is 25-180820.
9:22 AM MONDAY: Summary from SPD:
At 1321 hours, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Delridge Way SW / SW Thistle. A homeowner in the area flagged down officers for assistance. During the investigation, it was determined an armed subject had arrived at the victim’s home the previous night looking for a specific person who does not reside at this address. The subject was armed with a revolver and left after checking the home interior (not reported). Today, several renters of the home were inside when they heard shots coming from the street. Officers located bullet hole damage to the home and a vehicle in the driveway.
Reported via text:
This morning, around 7 AM, my boyfriend’s mother had her beloved truck stolen. The incident took place off 12th Avenue and Holden Street in Highland Park. According to a neighbor, they observed a tan Impala parked next to the truck just before it was taken, and it appeared as though someone was attempting to break in. Once we all woke up and checked outside, the truck was already gone. This truck holds special significance for her, as she purchased it with her inheritance back in 2003, and it has been a cherished part of her life ever since. While it may not seem like the flashiest vehicle, it means the world to her, and we genuinely want it back.

If you find it, call 911 and refer to that report #.
UPDATE: Found, at Roxbury Safeway.
Two newly released police reports in West Seattle Crime Watch this afternoon:
BRIDGE GUNFIRE: This happened night before last but we just got confirmation by procuring the police-report narrative today. Police found casings near the crest of the West Seattle Bridge after a westbound driver late Wednesday night reported seeing someone “hanging out the window” of an eastbound vehicle, firing a handgun into the air. The car was described as a gold Ford sedan. Police did not get word of any injuries or damage.
SHOPLIFTING CRACKDOWN: Police have mentioned “emphasis” operations at Westwood Village previously. This SPD summary says officers from two precincts did it again this past Tuesday:
At 1200 hours, South patrol, and Southwest patrol participated in a multi-store retail theft operation at Westwood Village. Officers teamed with loss prevention representatives from Marshalls and Target to identify and then apprehend shoplifters. Six arrests were made between the two stores and the recovery of stolen merchandise. One of the six arrestees was also booked for a felony warrant. This was a team effort by GIU detectives, patrol, and partnership with the loss prevention employees at the two businesses.
We’re pursuing further information to see who was booked and/or charged.
Reported by Nathan:
Wanted to report a stolen 1998 white Honda Passport in North Admiral on Massachusetts St. last night.
SPD incident # 25-176396
License: WA Plates ANH6353This isn’t the exact car but looks just like (it).
If you find it, call 911, and refer to the incident number above.
SATURDAY UPDATE: Nathan says the car’s been found.
Two more reader reports. First:
Around 6:00 pm, an attempted car robbery on 51st Ave SW next to Genesee Hill Elementary.
3 individuals – 2 white males wearing black ski masks, black snow pants and black and white ski coats, one female wearing a N95 mask — attempted to steal our black 2006 Audi.
They were driving a white 4-door Hyundai Elantra, no license plates.
One male was inside the car and was able to start the car when we ran after them, they were able to get away and drive toward Genesse Hill street.
They looked young, possibly in their late teens. This has been reported to the police.
Report # is 25-174087. And separately, we received this report:
Reported this evening around 8 PM on June 23 by a neighbor:
Corner of California Ave and Holly St. right on the corner where the hair salon is across from McDonalds…
A white Hyundai Elantra with paper temp WA plates – and 4 what looked like young people speed down that street past me toward Fauntleroy – and all 4 were wearing black ski masks, and they flipped me off as they drove by.
Didn’t see where they went as by the time I got to the corner, they were gone.
Please be on alert; the vehicle could’ve been stolen or involved in a burglary.
Sent by a reader who asked to remain anonymous:
Today at approximately 3:00 pm I was heading south on Walnut near the Hiawatha wading pool. I sensed someone was following me but I didn’t turn around to look. There was no one in the park that I could approach as a safe zone. As I approached Stevens I could still hear the individual behind me.
When I reached Fairmount and Stevens I turned and I saw a man with a knife in his hand asking for my bag. I offered my bag of groceries but he wanted my backpack. I told him no several times and he backed away as a couple was approaching nearby.
Description: White man, late 20s, early 30s, brown hair. I think he had facial hair but not 100% certain.
Wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with the hood on.Knife blade was approximately 5″ with a light wood handle. The knife was not your standard kitchen knife but perhaps a hunting-type knife??
He was last seen walking west on Stevens toward WSHS. I spoke with a police officer and a report was filed.
We’ll take this opportunity to remind you of two more free SPD-led personal-safety classes next month:

You’ll probably want to mute that video clip, as the sound is mostly a quite-shrill burglary alarm. But that’s what was happening at the Admiral restaurant/bar Arthur’s at about 4:45 am Saturday, says proprietor Rebecca Rice, who provided the video, explaining that she called 911 when she got an alarm alert and saw the burglar on her live cameras. Police responded quickly, she says, and detained someone nearby, but they couldn’t be positively identified and so had to be released. She adds:
The (burglar) got away with cash and a couple of laptops, and they caused serious damage to our front and office doors. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and we were able to reopen the same day — but it’s a heavy hit at an already difficult time for small businesses like ours.
We’re grateful to nearby businesses who shared camera footage and neighbors who checked in. Hoping someone might recognize the person or have additional information.
If you have any information, the police report # to refer to is 25-171464.
Two West Seattle Crime Watch reports, starting with one that just happened about half an hour ago:
SW BRANDON GUNFIRE: More gunfire on SW Brandon in North Delridge. After 911 calls just before 7 pm tonight, police found casings in a location described as “on Brandon, just east of 29th.” No injuries or damage reported so far. Dispatch told officers that one caller thought a small blue or gray SUV, possibly a Honda, might have been involved. If you have any information, the SPD incident number is 25-171063; the tip line is 206-233-5000.
That came in while we were writing about this:
BELVIDERE PROWLER: That’s security video sent by a reader in the Belvidere area who reports, “We had some suspicious behavior in our neighborhood … and we weren’t the only ones.” The video was recorded around 2:30 am Thursday.
The report and photo were sent by C:
My truck was stolen from between Dakota and Andover on 42nd Ave SW last night sometime between 6 pm on 6/17 and 7 am on 6/18.
It’s is a burgundy/dark red 1991 Toyota Pickup (not Tacoma) with license plate B40649K
SPD incident # 25-168428
Call 911 if you find it (and refer to that case number).
The photo and report are from Karalyn, who’s hoping you might help find this car:
Early morning this last Saturday the 14th, my dad’s car was stolen on 18th and Henderson, just one block away from Boss Burger. My dad’s car is a black 2014 Lexus ES350 with a license plate of CKW4260. It was stolen between 2:42am-2:53am. It was targeted by a gray Lexus (unfortunately no license plate), with 3-4 men. On the right side, just behind the passenger seat, in green spray paint is the word “TAG.” We believe the person who stole the car was an Asian man with thick eyebrows, according to the photos we have.
(The spray-painting was done by the thief/thieves shortly before this screenshot.) We’ll add the SPD report # when we get it.
WEDNESDAY EVENING UPDATE: Karalyn says in a comment that her dad’s car was found in Shoreline.
ORIGINAL REPORT, 10:46 PM MONDAY: Police are investigating confirmed gunfire in High Point. Someone said they were shot at while driving home from High Point Library, and wasn’t sure where it had happened, but police told dispatch they have found both several bullet holes in the car and several casings on 35th near the library. No injuries reported so far.
ADDED 11:34 AM TUESDAY: We’ve just obtained the narrative from SPD (they are responsible for the XXX redactions):
Two different residents reported the sounds of the shooting, one resident in the 5900 block of 34 Av Sw, and another resident in the 3100 block of Sw Raymond St.
At approximately 2226 hours, I arrived in the area and began looking for signs of a shooting, when Radio advised that a new caller was reporting that their brother had been shot at. I responded to the caller’s residence (elsewhere in High Point). … XXXXX and his younger sister … were returning from a family member’s house in XXXXXX. XXXXX was unable to name the streets but was able to describe his route home once he exited SR-99.
XXXXX took the hill on Highland Park Wy Sw to Sw Holden St, and then up another hill on Sylvan Wy Sw, which turns into Sw Morgan St as it approaches Sw 35 St. XXXXX made a right-hand turn onto 35th St and had passed the Walgreens located at 6330 35 Av Sw. Prior to making a right-hand turn onto Sw Raymond St, XXXXX thought he heard fireworks. It wasn’t until he felt broken glass on his neck that he realized someone was shooting at his vehicle.
XXXXX told his sister to duck down in the front passenger seat while he quickly drove off eastbound on Raymond St. XXXXX has no idea why anyone would target him or his sister, and believes that it was a mistaken identity, possibly based on his vehicle … a 2022 green Dodge Charger with tinted windows. Neither XXXXX or XXXX were able to provide a suspect or vehicle description.
XXXXX returned home to their residence where he told his older sister, XXXXX XXXX, what had just occurred. Neither XXXXX or XXXX recall anything out of the ordinary on their drive home (and neither) have had any recent conflicts with anyone.
XXXXX and XXXX did not sustain any injuries from the shooting. XXXXX’s vehicle had numerous areas of damage from the shooting. The damage was mostly to the driver’s side of the vehicle, which appeared to have at least four points of entry: two on the driver’s side rear quarter panel and two on the driver’s rear passenger side window.
It appeared two of the rounds that entered the vehicle may have exited thru the front passenger side windshield.
Officer XXXXX took photographs of the vehicle and recovered a slug from the driver’s rear quarter panel and two fragments located just below the front passenger side windshield. Officer XXXXX also recovered three shell casings that had been located in the street near 35 Av Sw and Sw Raymond St. … It is unknown if anyone witnessed the shooting and no cameras were observed in the area.
Two more West Seattle Crime Watch reports:
ABOUT THE 35TH/ROXBURY RESPONSE: If you noticed multiple police cars at the strip mall on the northeast corner of 35th/Roxbury this past hour, here’s what that was about: An officer’s Automated License Plate Reader detected what police call a “rolling stolen” – stolen car on the move, a red Acura. The officer first saw it southbound on 35th at Henderson just before 7 pm, briefly lost track of it, then saw it pulled into the strip mall, where the driver was reportedly seen going into the Global Smoke & Vape store. Backup arrived and officers took the driver into custody. According to dispatch, the car was reported stolen outside the city, somewhere in King County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. We’ll follow up on what happened from there. … MONDAY UPDATE: The driver, a 39-year-old man, was arrested, and is in the King County Jail. Police say they found him inside the store, keys to the stolen car in hand, plus a credit card belonging to the vehicle’s registered owner. He claimed the Acura TL was a rental car he’d only been driving for a few hours, though he had no explanation for the credit card, per the police report. We’ll check back later on the suspect’s bail, assuming he had a hearing this afternoon as would be standard for the day after an arrest.
CAR CONSOLE STOLEN FROM ABOVE: Reader report from Andrew:
Heads up to those living on Fauntleroy near Lincoln Park. We used to see on our cameras people coming by about 3 in the morning testing car doors to see if they were open (driving slowly and reaching out to test). We always lock our car and never keep anything of value in the cars. So far so good for 8 years… until yesterday, thieves pried up the hard top on my Jeep Wrangler (after 2 years of parking this newish vehicle here) and stole the “uConnect” infotainment / navigation / stereo system, and damaged the roof, the door, the center dash is gashed up.
It’s been reported to police; the permanent report number is pending, but the tracking # is T00032361.
Some suggest Amazon customers use company lockers as a more-secure way to receive packages. That’s not necessarily 100 percent theft-proof, judging by what Jim reports happened to him:
Amazon Locker Flavius, located at 35th and Barton 7-Eleven, was either somehow electrically opened without triggering the “picked up” email, or the Amazon driver just dumped everything next to the box.
My locker was still in a “delivered” but “not picked up” status. But all the empty bags next to the locker had my name on them. So I suspected my locker would be empty, which it was. I did not open it till I had customer service on the phone.
No problem, everything will be replaced in a day or two, but it is worth putting out a word of caution.
James hopes someone will spot his stolen car:
My stolen car is a 1991 Honda Civic Hatchback DX, license plate #CLG0690 . Police report number is: 25-164276 The car is red, with black trim on the bottom half, and the hood and mini spoiler are acid washed red and blue, so it’s very recognizable. (Also) an identifying feature besides the hood color is the door trim on the driver side is halfway broken off.
Call 911 if you find it.
Two followups tonight:
POLICE LOOKING FOR VIDEO: Late last night, we reported on gunfire incidents in Alki and Fairmount Park. Tonight, Southwest Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator Jennifer Satterwhite has sent out investigators’ request for video evidence in one of them:
Yesterday evening (6/11/25) around midnight – there were multiple locations of shots fired.
Multiple vehicles were struck, and a few locations of property damage were located.
We are requesting all community members in the North Admiral & Alki area to please review their camera footage.
If you have any footage of a dark colored vehicle (possibly a Mercedes), driving at a high rate of speed, shooting from their vehicle – please contact me. I can provide a link to upload the footage into our evidence system.
jennifer.satterwhite@seattle.gov is her email address.
CHARGE FILED IN SEACREST GUN ARREST: The man arrested at Seacrest last Sunday morning after allegedly threatening to shoot another man is now charged. 19-year-old Jose Romero-Coto of Renton is charged with first-degree assault. The charging documents tell basically the same story as the narrative we obtained on followup, saying the incident happened in the overflow lot east of Salty’s and that Romero-Coto allegedly threatened the victim – sticking a gun against his abdomen – just for looking at him, which happened while the victim and his girlfriend were walking to the waterfront seating area in the lot to watch the sunrise. As previously reported, police eventually caught up with Romero-Coto at Seacrest and found a Glock handgun, stolen from Federal Way, in his car. No charge has been filed in connection with that yet. The narrative also mentions the victim’s girlfriend allegedly being assaulted by a woman who was with Romero-Coto; that case was referred to the City Attorney’s Office as a misdemeanor, so we’re researching it separately. Romero-Coto remains in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Three reports in West Seattle Crime Watch:
GUNFIRE: Police have received reports of possible gunfire in three different areas in the past hour and a half, and just confirmed two. First, police found one casing near Fauntleroy/Findlay. Second, they just found “multiple” casings in the 2300 block of Alki SW. No injuries reported in connection with either, and no other details yet. (The other report was around 10:30 pm, possible gunfire heard in Westwood, Gatewood, and Upper Fauntleroy, but no evidence turned up in that.) … 12:34 AM UPDATE: Two people have reported vehicle damage related to the Alki gunfire.
One other Crime Watch note:
PEEPING: Sent tonight by a reader:
This morning at 5:30 am, I found a male wearing a black hoodie crouched outside my bedroom window, looking in while I was getting dressed. My window was partially open. My outdoor area is enclosed by a wall that he jumped over. He exited onto California Avenue between Brandon and Dawson. The police responded quickly, and I’ve filed a report.
Last Tuesday’s gunfire at 25th/Dakota was related to a family dispute, according to documents in the charge filed against the suspect by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. It was all related to one nearby residence, prosecutors say. They filed a felony first-degree assault charge against 23-year-old Jibril Mohamednur. The documents say the suspect is related to the ex-spouse of a 28-year-old man who allegedly drove by the residence Tuesday morning and fired gunshots toward it. Prosecutors allege Mohamednur then grabbed a gun and ran out to shoot at the first man’s vehicle. They say police had responded to the residence twice in the previous two days for situations involving the divorced couple, one in which the ex-husband allegedly “drove in front of the residence brandishing a firearm.” The charging documents say Mohamednur was identified in part by video from a residential security camera. As shown in a police update we reported in a followup, investigators found a “loaded and chambered firearm” in an Audi also linked to the residence, along with clothes they believe Mohamednur was wearing at the time of the shootout. The court documents also show that he has a criminal record including felony convictions for burglary and identity theft. He remains in the King County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. The court documents also say police have probable cause to arrest the ex-husband but hadn’t found him as of the time Mohamednur was charged.
