WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Vandals throw rocks, damage homes and cars

ORIGINAL WEDNESDAY REPORT: That’s security video sent by the victim of a rock-throwing attack last Friday, who writes: “On 1/10/2025 at 3 PM, two individuals threw very large rocks at the front window of my house ,smashing it in the process. The rocks then landed on the hood and fender of my car, which was parked under the window, causing over $5,000 in damage. A 3rd person threw a rock at my neighbor’s window, shattering it.” This happened near the Sealth/Denny campus. Here’s a framegrab the victim also sent:

We are not showing the one who’s visible full-face as these are juveniles, not charged so far, in what is likely a non-felony case. But the clothing is enough for someone to recognize them. You can contact police and refer to incident # 25-008943.

THURSDAY UPDATE FROM VICTIM: Just received via email:

UPDATE – A detective has been assigned. If you have any information, please contact Detective Ivanov with the General Investigations Unit.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Fauntleroy Way Shell robbed again (updated)

12:46 AM: Police converging on the Shell station/mini-mart at Fauntleroy/Alaska say it’s just been hit by armed robbers again. The initial call was “shoplift” involving five people, but at least one was armed, and that makes it a robbery. The robbers are described so far as all male, late teens/early 20s, black masks, one with a machete, the other implying a handgun. They are reported to have taken off toward the bridge on Fauntleroy, in a black SUV.

1:06 AM: That SUV is a Hyundai Tucson, officers just told dispatch.

1:14 AM: The robbers’ description has changed – four men in their early 20s, one in a black hoodie, one in a blue mask, one in a black jacket, one in a multicolor sweater, one with a hammer. In cross-city communication, police are discussing the possibility of a link with a robbery that just happened downtown.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: From the SPD summary that’s since been released:

Four suspects with masks walked inside the gas station located at the 4500 BLK of Fauntleroy WY SW. The suspects grabbed a shelf of food items and threw it to the ground to block the entrance door. One of the suspects had a hammer and demanded money from the clerk. The suspects took approximately $200.00 in cash and food items. The suspects left in a Black SUV and possibly committed a second robbery at the 700 BLK of Taylor Ave N.

And after that, police say, they are suspected in a Bellevue holdup.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: U.S. Mail trucks damaged in gas theft

We heard a dispatch to the Westwood Village Post Office this morning for a report of gas theft and fence vandalism. We’ve since obtained the Seattle Police report narrative. It says officers were called for a report on two separate incidents: Last night around 10 pm, they discovered that gas had been siphoned from two vans, and their tanks had been damaged in the proces. Then around 8:30 this morning, they found a hole had been cut in the fence, and “a plastic bag containing an unknown white powder” was found in the area. Police took it for evidence; the report does not indicate whether the substance was subsequently identified.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Bank robbery in The Junction

(WSB photo)

2:44 PM: Police are investigating a bank robbery in The Junction, a few minutes before 2 pm at the 42nd/Edmunds US Bank. It was originally dispatched as a theft – but the dispatcher then was told that the person had shown or implied a “possible weapon,” and made off with $1,000 cash, so it was reclassified to a bank robbery. The robber was described as a white woman in her 20s or 30s, glasses, dark-gray hoodie, last seen heading on foot toward California Avenue. No injuries reported.

ADDED TUESDAY: SPD has released a brief report summary: “… It was reported a female suspect entered the bank and passed a note to the front teller. The note advised a bank robbery was taking place and demanded all the money in the register. Shortly after displaying the note the female brandished a firearm that she was carrying in her purse. The teller handed over $1,000 dollars in cash, and the suspect left the bank. …”

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen Ford pickup truck; (added) possibly dumped blue Odyssey

1:56 PM: Sent by Isabelle:

My husband’s Ford F-250 white 1997 truck was stolen last night, sometime between 10 pm and now.

It was parked in the alley between 40th and 41st/Hudson and Edmunds in our parking pad.

If you see this truck can you please contact 7857642575 or ccubed4@gmail.com

Thank you so much.

Plate # is D09653F; report # is 25-10577.

ADDED 3:01 PM: One more vehicle to report – anyone looking for this blue Honda Odyssey? Adam wonders:

I returned home from work last night at 2:30 am and found this vehicle where I normally park my car. It has obviously been dumped and not a vehicle from this neighborhood that was broken into. It’s on the south east corner of 41st Ave SW and SW Andover. The passenger-side sliding door is open and it looks “lived in” or as if someone spent some time in it.

UPS driver from West Seattle recovering from getting attacked on the job in Belltown

A UPS delivery driver who lives in West Seattle is recovering from injuries after getting attacked on the job.

(Photos from GoFundMe.com page)

This happened three weeks ago in Belltown; we just learned about it this week when we got a note about a crowdfunding campaign to cover some of his expenses.

The driver, Jason Yates, has lived in West Seattle for 15 years, Arbor Heights for the past 10. His partner Sara Currie says he spent more than four years delivering a West Seattle route. He’s worked for UPS for 17 years.

We requested the police narrative for the incident after hearing from Sara. The narrative says Jason told police he parked his UPS truck in an alley in the 300 block of Lenora to make deliveries. The attacker’s vehicle, a dark SUV, was behind him, and another vehicle pulled behind that one, “trapping” the attacker, who asked Jason to move his truck so he could get out of the alley. According to the report, Jason said he had to make a delivery first. The attacker then is reported to have thrown a glass bottle at Jason, and then pinned him against a garage gate; Jason pulled out his phone to try to get a photo of the attacker, who then punched him in the head several times. A witness who saw this from a nearby building also confirmed seeing the attacker get out of his vehicle and punch Jason repeatedly, before backing out to leave the alley. Someone nearby got his license-plate number and gave it to police, who wrote in the report that it checked to an address in Federal Way, but said nothing more about the investigation status.

Sara says Jason spent more than a week in the hospital, and has more treatment and therapy ahead for head and body injuries; the crowdfunding campaign is meant to help cover those expenses as well as lost wages since he can’t work, and any costs incurred in pursuing justice in the case.

PACKAGE TAKEN, ANOTHER LEFT BEHIND: From A:

At 10:37 this morning this person stole three packages from our porch (and left someone’s opened package). We are on 21st Ave SW between Myrtle and Holly. Pictures of person and their vehicle attached.

If anyone finds packages for Hallmon dumped somewhere, please let me know. I think they are things my daughter ordered with her Christmas money.

Also, if anyone knows a person at 30xx SW Bradford St. Apt. 222, we have what’s left of their package.

APPARENTLY ABANDONED BICYCLE: A texter sent this photo of a bike that’s been at the Southwest Teen Life Center building for three days:

The texter notes, “It’s an 18-speed Hyper Shocker 2G.”

UPDATE: Police standoff at Roxbury Safeway; suspect in custody

(WSB photos by Tracy Record)

11:19 AM: Roxbury Safeway isn’t allowing customers inside right now because of a police standoff. At least eight SPD cars are here (though it’s in KCSO jurisdiction). We’re waiting to talk with police about what happened; employees are going in to work in the south side of the store – the situation, which involved an armed person making threats per an employee, is happening in the north end of the store.

11:31 AM: People showing up to shop are still being told the store’s closed because police are holding the suspect at gunpoint. Employees are clearing out again and an officer with a shield has gone in.

11:49 AM The suspect is in custody. A county fire medic unit has arrived.

1:21 PM: Police have released more information. They say it started “nearby” with “a violent assault involving a female victim” and that he “pulled a knife on the victim and threatened her with violence” while “under the influence of methamphetamine.” He turned up inside the Safeway and when police responded, that’s when the standoff started. They say he was arrested for investigation of “felony assault, harassment, and indecent liberties” and after medical evaluation he’s expected to be booked into jail.

2:40 PM: SPD spokesperson Det. Eric Muñoz just answered our two big remaining questions: #1, despite the store being outside the city limits, this was an SPD call because the original incident happened across the street (9400 block of 27th SW), which is inside the city limits; also, the suspect needed medical attention because he “sustained minor injuries during the arrest; less-than-lethal force was used by officers including a Taser deployment. No other people were injured during the arrest.”

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Gunfire investigation (updated)

(Photo from comment by ‘Tired’)

11:03 PM MONDAY: Police checking out 911 calls about possible gunfire just before 11 pm in the Westwood area have just confirmed it. Officers told dispatch they’ve found casings at 27th/Thistle [map], near Chief Sealth IHS and Nino Cantu SW Athletic Complex. No word yet of injuries; at least one parked car is reported to have damage.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: The SPD summary of the incident changes the intersection to 27th/Trenton and adds other details:

At 2253 hours, several callers reported hearing the sound of gunfire in the area of 27 Av SW and SW Trenton St. Officers arrived at that intersection to find 13 spent 10mm shell casings on the east side of the intersection, and three spent 9mm shell casings approximately 10-15 yards west of them. A nearby parked and unoccupied vehicle had a round go through both the rear window and windshield. No bullet fragments were recovered. Surveillance footage didn’t reveal anything of evidentiary value. The spent shell casings were photographed and placed into evidence.
