Police are investigating gunfire near Myrtle Reservoir Park. Residents called 911 after hearing it about an hour ago; at least two casings were subsequently found in the street near 39th/Willow (map). No injuries or property damage reported. Police told us at the scene that they are interested in hearing from anyone in the area who might have caught something on a security camera; the case number is (corrected) 2020-295620.

STOLEN BIKES: From Katrina:

Our bikes were stolen off our covered porch in North Admiral. They are both Public brand cruisers, both have upgraded Brooks saddles.

We’re looking to get the word out in case they (hopefully) get dumped somewhere. Thought we would let folks know as well to be extra vigilant as we were told there has been an uptick in bike theft in our neighborhood.

APARTMENT-GARAGE BREAK-IN: From Tim:

(Wednesday) night a prowler entered our locked garage at apartment complex: Aura West Seattle. He had bolt cutters and cut a chain we had used to lock up a wagon. He then used our wagon to gather other items in the garage. Someone must have caught him in the middle and he ended up ditching the wagon in the garage with a stolen car battery charger and a tent. This prowler stole a previous wagon about a month ago along with a roof bag for our camping trips. We got a new wagon with a lock, and still, no match for the thief. They have also broken into the bike room as well on separate occasions.

9:15 AM: Two more stolen bicycles to watch for:

Amy sent the photos, reporting that they were stolen near 41st/Findlay: “My husband’s beloved custom bikes were stolen out of our garage (Tuesday) after an automatic-garage-door malfunction; the garage door was likely left open all day. These are custom and unique bikes, brand is Speedvagen. So I’m hoping someone can help if they are seen.” Police report # 20-292752.

9:49 AM: Just in from the Southwest Precinct, two alerts – first, a request to help find this car prowler:
The precinct says that on October 6th around 10 pm, this person tried to break into three vehicles in the 7700 block of 20th SW. “After realizing all the vehicle doors were locked, the suspect left on foot. The reporting party stated this suspect has successfully prowled vehicles in the past.” If you have information on who this person is, call the precinct at 206-733-9800.

Also from the precinct, this alert that auto theft is on the rise in West Seattle/South Park:

Specifically:

*The precinct is up 10% in the last 28 days
*Mostly during third watch (between 1900-2100), and mostly in the Morgan Junction area
*The Morgan Junction community is up 138% year to date (+28 cars), 60% in the last 28 days

*In an effort to decrease these incidents, we would like to remind our community members about the following prevention strategies:

*Check on your vehicle regularly, especially if you aren’t driving it frequently
*Never leave your car running or the keys in the ignition when you’re away, even for ‘just a minute’, please remember this is illegal in Seattle and in Washington (SMC 11.70.160, RCW 46.61.600)
*Remove remote garage door openers from vehicle
*Always lock doors and roll up windows, even if the car is parked in front of your home
*Never leave valuables in plain view, even if your car is locked
*If possible, park vehicle in a busy, locked, monitored and/or well-lit area
*Utilize anti-theft devices such as the Club (please contact Crime Prevention Coordinator Jennifer Danner for more information about this)
*If possible, activate alarm

STOLEN CAR: Beth in Fauntleroy says this is the second time she’s been hit by auto theft, and a WSB reader helped find the car last time, so maybe that’ll happen again:

AIR COMPRESSOR STOLEN: The video is from John:

John says, “I live in Lighthouse Apts. on Delridge Way … multiple cars broken into and had someone come on my back patio and steal my air compressor.” This video, not as close-up, shows car prowlers in the garage.

EMBLEM THEFT: From M:

VW car emblem stolen from secure garage basement @ 4752 41st Ave SW. Not the first time the building has been broken into.

4:27 PM: This time, the report is from Joanna: “Unfortunately the catalytic converter was stolen from my Prius this week while parked on the residential street on the corner of SW Edmunds St and 41st Ave SW. I took my car into an auto shop in west Seattle and they said I was their 10th recently and that not much can be done to prevent it (besides not parking on the street).” Southwest Precinct Crime-Prevention Coordinator Jennifer Danner did recently send an alert that included this other bit of advice: “Speak with your vehicle manufacturer to inquire about specific devices that can be added to shield or lock the catalytic converter.”

ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT: April has since emailed to tell us about her theft in Fauntleroy: “We just figured out that our Prius, parked in front of our house on 44th and SW and Wildwood/Brace Point, had its catalytic converter stolen on Tuesday night. Thieves put a concrete clump behind the rear wheel, which is what we saw initially and couldn’t figure out what it was doing there… until I tried to start the car a couple of days later. They likely boosted the car onto the concrete while they removed the converter.”

12:08 AM – ROBBERY: Police are looking for two people reported to have robbed the Junction 7-11 (California/Erskine) at knifepoint a short time ago. They left in what was described as an older red Cadillac “with damage.” No injuries reported. If we hear anything more, we’ll update.

1:35 AM – GUNFIRE: Nothing new on that, but now there’s a major police response in South Delridge, after multiple reports of gunfire, apparently associated with a crowd of people at 16th/Trenton. Police responding to an initial report said they heard shots too. No injuries reported so far. (1:39 am) They’ve found at least one shell casing.

STOLEN BLACK JEEP LIBERTY: From Grant:

Monday morning between 1 am and 6 am my wife’s 2006 Jeep Liberty was stolen from the corner of Henderson and 30th ave SW. It has a Thule container on top and a spare tire on the back. It has black trims and the license plate frame is rhinestones. License plate is # C00643V. If anyone sees it around, please let us know or call (911).

CAR THIEF RETURNS TO SCENE: On Saturday we reported on M‘s stolen Audi. Today, an update with video:

Last night, car thief came back to the scene in my stolen Audi S4 to reclaim his bicycle he hid in the neighbors’ yard but I had already taken it. Pursued him in my work truck But lost him somewhere around 14th ave SW and Cambridge. Earlier in the day I spotted him parked outside the Walgreens on 15th Ave SW just off Roxbury but he left before I could report it again. Also, plates have been switched at least twice.

ABANDONED BICYCLE: From Kellie:

This Schwinn bike has been lying in the parkway in front of a home on 30th Ave SW just north of Henderson for at least the last 2 days. At this point it’s probably safe to assume that someone stole and dumped it.

Two West Seattle Crime Watch notes:

DOUBLE SHOOTING FOLLOWUP: Early Sunday, we reported on a police and fire response in the 7200 block of Dumar Way. The initial report was that two people were shot. but the house was empty when police arrived; one victim showed up at Harborview Medical Center. The Southwest Precinct has just released a few more details: “A large house party was being hosted at an Airbnb … Two suspects arrived that did not get along. They got into an argument before shooting 15-20 rounds at each other. Two victims were transported to Harborview Medical Center by personal vehicles. It is unknown if they were the shooters. Both victims were uncooperative with the police. One victim was shot in the arm and the other in the back.” SPD was seeking a warrant to collect more evidence.

ADDED 9:09 AM: We’ve just received additional information in response to our original inquiry with SPD media relations. The warrant actually has already been procured; officers reported finding “bloodstains, ,,, disarray, and an identification card … inside the house” as well as “five bullet holes in the wall. Four of them had visible exit holes and the fifth had a bullet still lodged in it.” This information also clarifies that four people were inside the house when police arrived, though the victims were gone. It also notes the Washington State Patrol tried to stop the vehicle carrying the victims for suspected DUI on I-5 – and arrested the driver after arrival at Harborview. The victims were a “juvenile male” who tried to “flee the hospital without receiving treatment” for a gunshot wound to his right arm, and a female victim who said she was standing on the house’s balcony when hit in the back by a bullet and didn’t even realize for a few minutes that she had been shot. Two casings were found in the street.

Some lady came from the front side of our house through a closed gate, stole a Gorilla Cart from us, and went out the back gate as well. This happened at 8:06 (Sunday) morning.

This individual stepped up on a recycle bin, opened our living room window, broke the screen, climbed down into our home and took everything and walked out of the front door with full suitcases.

BICYCLE THEFT: Second day in a row we have had a report of a bike theft from the garage at this apartment complex. From Andy:

My bike was stolen from the secure storage at the Huxley. 4754 Fauntleroy Way SW. It was there last night and I noticed that it was stolen when I went for a run this morning (10.3.20). Rocky Mountain Fusion 10, medium, red/black.

A Honda Civic sped into the traffic circle at our corner at approx. 5:35 am today. Driver fled the scene on foot. Thank you to SPD for their quick response and for sharing that the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Lynnwood area.

Jim‘s truck was stolen early today just south of the city-limit line:

10:37 AM: Someone drove off in my truck this morning at 4:30 AM in North Shorewood near the Safeway. 2006 F250 Crew Cab Super Duty, Brown with Gold Trim. Custom wheels and tires. Large Ham radio antenna hanging off the hood on the left front. Paint matched Snug Top canopy with blacked-out windows.

STOLEN BICYCLE: From Emily:

It is a 2019 Trek Marlin 6, with a black and red seat, black pedals, red grips with a mud guard. It was stolen after 4 pm on October 1st from 4754 Fauntleroy Way SW and noticed missing at 7:50 am today. My fiancé’s bike’s chain was attempted to be cut and the pump was stolen off the bike.

Police report # is 20-282438.

ABANDONED MOTORCYCLE: Marc says this motorcycle with expired plates has been near his home, at 23rd/Willow, for five days.

Just wanted to see if people could be on the lookout for our 1991 Jeep Cherokee that was stolen from in front of our house on 51st Street near Schmitz Park. It was taken Friday night, on Sep. 25. Just thought I’d see if any neighbors noticed that someone got a new car. It also had 5 tires with wheels inside that our neighbor gave us that day and we never had a chance to unload them. It has a firefighter sticker on the back.

12:01 PM: Neighbors in northeast Admiral report a prowler in the 3-4:30 am vicinity, seen clearly on this security-video clip:

Dana reports an e-bike stolen in the process, a black RadCity Step-Thru. “Definitely not seen from the street and involved [the thief] being inches from our bedroom windows. I’ve filed a police report but wanted to get the word out that he is pretty bold and not afraid to go searching around your home.” Dana says just to get in the yard where the video was recorded, the prowler had to “jump a locked gate.” Meantime, we’ve had a few bicycle reunions lately, so if you happen to see one like this abandoned, please let us know and we’ll connect you.

6 PM: Dana says in comments that a neighbor found the bike.

Last Sunday, we reported briefly on an incident that brought a sizable police response to a neighborhood southwest of The Junction, described at the time as a court-order violation. We recognized the name of the suspect arrested that day, Casey Carlstedt. We reported on him multiple times in 2017, including a prosecutor’s observation that he appeared to be “spiraling out of control.” The cases we mentioned that year included a reckless-driving arrest and a bicycle theft in which WSB readers helped find the bike and the thief. In the new case, court documents say Carlstedt, now 27, was arrested a short time after he was served with a court order to stay away from a certain house and the people who live there. After officers presented him with the order – finding him near the house – he left the area, but police soon got a call alleging he had threatened to kill a random passerby. When they found Carlstedt, he was back within 150 feet of the house he was ordered to stay at least 1,000 feet away from. Court documents say this is the sixth anti-harassment order filed against him in six years. He is charged with felony harassment and violation of a court order, and remains in jail, bail set at $25,000.
