West Seattle, Washington
23 Tuesday
Some of the greater Admiral area’s most brightly decorated homes might have noticed a large group of visitors on foot tonight: The annual West Seattle Runner (WSB sponsor) Christmas Lights Run left the shop at 2743 California SW just after 5 pm. First, of course, the traditional group shot – here are the 30+ people who defied the rain (as runners tend to do) to take part:
Here’s the 5K-ish route that WSR proprietors Tim and Lori McConnell mapped out:
Tonight’s runners also were offered the chance to try out new Brooks shoes – one of many “demo runs” that WSR does during the course of its regular free multiple-times-a-week group runs. Also of note – you have two more days to shop WSR before Christmas, regular hours Monday and Tuesday, then they’ll be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
For tonight’s Christmas-lights spotlight, thanks to Stacy for sending the pic and description:
Walked by an amazingly well done Griswold-level house with a Disney theme last night. Highly recommended checking it out!
This is in the 3400 block of 48th SW, a short distance west of Madison Middle School. Now just three nights until Christmas; if you have lights to recommend, with or without a photo, westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you! (To see what we’ve show already, scroll here.)
Thanks to Ana for sending tonight’s photo: “Lights and giant Santa at 29th SW and Findlay.” And Santa’s not alone on the roof – lots of lights up there too! Four more nights until Christmas – see what we’ve spotlighted by scrolling here – and if there’s someplace great that we’ve missed, send the location and/or photo(s) to westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!
See that spot on the bench next to The Grinch? It’s open for photo ops until 8 pm. This is part of Lacey‘s “Whoville” display, spotlighted here earlier this week (and in previous years). She says the weather in north White Center is not too bad so far tonight – a little showery, but no wind, so she’s welcoming visitors for photo ops. Bring a food-bank donation if you can! This is on 18th SW between SW 98th and Roxbury.
“We’ve added a lot since 2023!” So said Oren, referring to the previous time we featured this Westwood-area display. The video above previews what you’ll see if you visit these lights and decorations at 9425 25th SW [map]. This photo also shows part of it:
Still five nights to go until Christmas – if you have bright lights we haven’t shown yet (here’s the archive), let us know at westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!
Thanks to Dan for tonight’s photos of the liveliest lights on the stub of Fauntleroy that stretches along the north side of the southwest end of the West Seattle Bridge. We’ve shown this house a few times before, but checking past photos, we note there’s something different every year!
It’s in the 4000 block of Fauntleroy, reachable if you take Andover east off 35th SW. And if you’ve seen memorable lights we haven’t shown yet (this year, at least), we’re still welcoming tips/photos at westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!
Tonight’s Christmas-lights spotlight falls on Lacey‘s house, another past favorite that’s added more for this season:
We have our Whoville display up on 18th Ave SW, between Roxbury and SW 98th St.
I have added another full-size Grinch this year and improved upon my Whoville theme. I’m always adding a little more, and it’s fun to see during the day as well! I have been battling rain, wind, and the squirrels chewing all of my lights. Anyone else having this problem??
I made some plywood cutout Who houses with lights, still working on the last one. As a kid growing up in WS, the Charlie Brown display was one of my favorites to visit. My Who houses are inspired from memories of visiting that display. As the years go on, I’m sure the village will grow!
I do a big Halloween display and this year we had so much fun having people walk through the yard and bring donations for White Center Food bank. If the weather is clear enough next Saturday, I will set up a selfie area with the Grinch in Whoville and would love for people to bring donations for WC Food Bank and take photos. I’ll update the Blog later in the week.
If that happens, we’ll include it in the event list we publish every morning, too. Meantime, thanks yet again to everyone sending tips and/or photos about decoration displays – westseattleblog@gmail.com is the best way to send them. (And scroll this WSB archive to see what we’ve shown already.)
The 40th SW and SW Charlestown area near the water tower (aka standpipe) has grown a lot brighter since our early-season visit. For tonight’s spotlight, we received Wyatt‘s photo of his “WyLights 2025” display – and he says it remains a work in progress: “Happy Holidays! More lights going up after the wind!” Still 10 nights to show lights through Christmas, and we have more in queue; thanks again to everyone who’s sent pics and/or tips to westseattleblog@gmail.com … and go here to scroll through all the places we’ve shown already!
Going out looking at lights tonight while the weather’s relatively calm? Another West Seattle must-see is on! Thanks to Ryan and Kent, the “4040 House Crew,” for sending word that their popular display is up and running, and delighting visitors:
We’re glad to share that the Winter Holiday Light Display at 4040 House is back, doing our part to make the season a little more merry and bright.
The display is located at 4040 47th Ave SW and is open:
•Sunday–Thursday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
•Friday & Saturday: 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Santa’s Jukebox will be up and running later this week, giving visitors the chance to select songs and interact with the show.
During your visit if you have questions, look for Kent or Ryan wearing the “4040 House Light Crew” jackets. We will be out most nights enjoying the show with our guests.
Please note that 47th Ave SW is a busy street and primary residential parking area. If you are driving, we kindly ask that you be respectful of our neighbors. Parking is typically easier along Dakota Street or Andover Street, with plenty of sidewalk space for a short walk over. Benches are also available for those who would like to sit and enjoy the display.
A huge thank you to our neighbors for their continued support, patience, and kindness throughout the season — these displays truly wouldn’t be possible without you.
We’d also like to give a special shout-out to the Menashes and to Derick at Seattle Light Show for helping make West Seattle THE Christmas light destination of the Pacific Northwest. We’re proud to be part of such a creative and generous community.
We hope you’ll come by and celebrate the season with us. For more information, visit 4040house.com.

Tonight’s spotlight lights are courtesy of Al, who sent this photo from a stop during The Beer Junction‘s wassail ride tonight – he says it’s in North Admiral, SW Atlantic between California SW and 44th SW. As for the ride, Al reports 17 people pedaled about six miles:
Wherever and however you find lights worth sharing, westseattleblog@gmail.com – with or without a pic! (To see what we’ve shown already, scroll through this WSB archive!)
It’s the ultimate Santa photo opportunity – tonight’s the one night every season Santa Claus makes an early visit to the Menashe Family‘s legendary Christmas-lights display, so kids can get those special seasonal photos with him. He brought reindeer too, and Mrs. Claus!
They’re at 5605 Beach Drive SW until about 9:30 pm.
Bring a nonperishable donation for the West Seattle Food Bank.
Tonight’s West Seattle Christmas-lights spotlight is a location we showed last year – with a completely different look. Last year the fence at 34th SW and SW Cambridge had big snowflake shapes; this year, it’s lights in light, as shown above. The photo is from Stephanie, who happened onto the display, and sent this photo from the same area:
If you’ve seen particularly lively lights – or have your own – tips welcome, with or without photos, at westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you! Scroll this WSB archive section to see what we’ve already shown.
Tonight’s spotlight falls on an example of the Halloween/Christmas decoration fusion that seems to become a bit more common each year. Scouting light sites for WSB, Cindi spotted this at 46th and Admiral, nicknaming it the ‘Gruesome Twosome.” Tomorrow, it’s back to Christmas characters, as we dig back into the stack of reader contributions – thanks to everybody who keeps sending those to westseattleblog@gmail.com!
Thanks to Don Rice for the photo of his famous West Seattle holiday display at 2128 47th SW [map], a tribute to “Charlie Brown Christmas.” Don notes, “Charlie Brown and his good friends…… they’re back. Charlie Brown’s first comic strip was 75 years ago this last October.” That strip, of course, is “Peanuts” by Charles Schulz. Don’s display has hit a milestone too, according to our records – this is the 50th year!
(Seen lights? Got lights? westseattleblog@gmail.com – thanks to everyone who’s been contributing!)
Thanks to Brian for tonight’s lights – they’re at 7130 Wright Avenue SW. Here’s a closer look:
More and more lights are popping up with sunbreaks between the storms – so we’re happy to keep getting tips, with or without photos – westseattleblog@gmail.com – go here to see what we’ve already shown.
Tonight’s Christmas lights spotlight: Eric‘s display at 5629 34th Avenue SW, which has become a tradition … evoking Christmas spirit a la “Miracle on 34th Street” even though here in West Seattle the numbered streets are Avenue. He also added the greeting to the image he’s sharing this year. Thanks to everyone who’s sending photos and/or tips – westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!
Returning to our Christmas-light spotlights tonight after a weekend of tree lightings, the brightest balcony in West Seattle is aglow again! We’ve shown this North Admiral balcony on the west side of California near SW Atlantic before, but the decorators change things up, so it’s not a rerun (here’s another reader’s 2022 photo, for example, and a sparser-but-merry look in 2019 – [added] last year, too!). Thanks to Cindi for the photo; through Christmas, photos and/or tips are appreciated at westseattleblog@gmail.com, or texted to 206-293-6302 – thank you! (See past spotlights by scrolling through this WSB archive.)
That’s a one-minute preview of Derick‘s music-synched show, tonight’s holiday-season lights spotlight. Here’s his announcement:
Our annual holiday light show is now up and running – we’re located on the corner of 37th & Graham street [map]. As always, we’ve added more lights, new songs, and now viewers have the ability to control what song plays next – just scan the QR code by the Tune-To sign out front.
This year we’re also supporting a local West Seattle charity for kids – Fauntleroy Children’s Center. They’re in need of a school bus to transport kids around and we wanted to try to make that happen for them this holiday season. If you have the means, please consider donating to them – the kids/families they help are part of our West Seattle community. They’re a registered 501(c)(3) charity and all proceeds go directly to them – you can donate by visiting their PayPal.
Our show will run daily from sunset to 9pm through Dec 26th. If you have any questions you can visit our website: SeattleLightShow.com
The show is currently ~12 minutes long played straight through, but I have a couple of songs I’m still editing and will add later in the month.
If you have lights to recommend – whether your own, or someone else’s – please let us know at westseattleblog@gmail.com – thanks!
This time of year, Fauntlee Hills is one of West Seattle’s most-sparkling neighborhoods. While it’s early in the season, and you’ll probably see more displays once we’ve had another burst of clearer weather, we noticed some nice displays there already – the one above is near 41st SW and SW Trenton, while the one below is near 40th SW and SW Henderson:
The best access to Fauntlee Hills’ steep streets is turning northbound onto 40th or 41st off SW Barton, across from Fauntleroy Park [vicinity map]. Meantime, we’re amassing reader tips about lights to check out – if you have a suggestion, please email westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!
Out scouting Christmas lights again tonight, we wandered over to the Charlestown Standpipe (aka “water tower”) vicinity, where you’ll usually find several densely lit homes. A little early, maybe, as the only one we found in full force was this one on the west side of 40th just north of Charlestown.
We’ll visit again later in the season. Meantime, tips welcome if you have, or see, festive lights – westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!
Feliz Navidad – Happy Christmas – says one of the illuminated decorations at this house on the west side of 42nd SW, north of SW Graham. We noticed the yard’s many holiday characters all lit up earlier this week, before weather like today’s sunshine gave more people a chance to decorate. At this house, both sides of the front yard are filled with happiness:
We’re featuring local lights every night through Christmas – so if you have a display the community should see, and/or when you notice one, please let us know – photos appreciated but not necessary – westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!
From the Nativity, to Santa and his reindeer …
… to a cheery family of snowmen …
… to holiday trains …
… many a Christmas story is told in the Menashe Family‘s front yard at 5605 Beach Drive SW, which at this time of year offers up West Seattle’s brightest Christmas lights, from the tree tops to the sidewalk:
They’ve been switching to LEDs over the years so it’s not as energy-consuming as you might suspect. But it’s still enough to widen the eyes of kids – and grownups – who stop by to look. One particularly special night to visit will be Saturday, December 13, when Santa and reindeer will be there, starting at 6 pm. … In the meantime, we’ll be featuring holiday lights nightly through Christmas, so if you have one to recommend, please let us know – with or without pics – westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!

Tomorrow is not only Thanksgiving, but also exactly four weeks until Christmas, which means time for nightly photos of West Seattle’s holiday lights here on WSB. We love showing photos of West Seattle’s best and brightest, whether you’re aiming for Menashe Family-level density (above is a photo sent by Cindi while they were starting setup earlier this week) or something a little subtler. With a rainless afternoon, we suspect more lights might have gone up today, so we’ll go scouting later this week, but we also welcome your photos – westseattleblog@gmail.com. You don’t have to include the exact address – just the block is fine (xx00 block of xx SW, for example) – as long as that’s enough info for light-sightseers to find it. (Scroll through this archive to see what we’ve featured in past years!)
