HAPPENING NOW: West Seattle Beer and Music Festival, night 1

(WSB photos)

The first-ever West Seattle Beer and Music Festival has begun! The boards up outside the Alki Masonic Center in The Junction tell you what’s happening – including the featured restaurants and breweries.

It’s not just brewers who are in the spotlight, it’s also local beer specialists like The Beer Junction:

From left are Chris, Allison, and Morgan. The festival’s on until 10 pm; part of the proceeds benefit WestSide Baby.

The Masonic Center is at 4736 40th SW, and you can get your tickets – which include food and drink – here. Tomorrow has two sessions, afternoon and evening, and then the festival finale is Sunday afternoon, when you’re invited to bring your pup.

FRIDAY: First day for first-ever West Seattle Beer and Music Festival

Tomorrow evening, it begins: The first-ever West Seattle Beer and Music Festival, four sessions over three days at the Alki Masonic Center in The Junction (4736 40th SW). Here are the highlights at a glance:

That’s just part of what’ll be offered. As the organizers explain, “Our goal is to provide craft beer drinkers with an amazing selection of unique beers so they can discover new and old favorites. … Not only will there be craft beer, the festival will feature ‘Sips and Bites’ from our local culinary stars pairing up with festival brewmasters and funky local bands & Dj’s keeping us movin’.” It’s a “cashless” festival – food and drink tokens are included in the ticket prices; see the options here – including VIP levels if you’re interested – for the Friday night, Saturday afternoon, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon sessions. Sunday, you can bring your dog(s)! All three days are 21+

P.S. The featured breweries are listed here.

(WSB photo from 2017 Arts in Nature Festival)

By this weekend, the air is expected to be clearer, and that’s a good thing given the number of big outdoor events on the schedule! Among them: The 19th annual Arts in Nature Festival at Camp Long, presented by Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association. The festival spans both Saturday and Sunday, with visual and performing artists all around the sprawling, forest-and-meadow West Seattle park. You can see the full schedule here; find out more about the artists here. As explained here, this isn’t just a festival where you go to watch and listen – it’s also a festival where you experience and create. (And don’t miss what’s happening in and around the cabins!) You will be inspired and stirred on Saturday night by musical headliners Total Experience Gospel Choir, led by Rev. Pat Wright, who’s talking about retirement, so this might be one of your last chances to see and hear her! Festival hours are noon-9 pm Saturday and noon-6 pm Sunday; tickets are discounted when you buy online in advance, so do that here ASAP! (WSB is a co-sponsor of this year’s festival.)

Still time to get to this year’s Duwamish River Festival (at Duwamish Waterway Park, 7900 10th Ave. S., until 5 pm), where you can learn about the river by getting out onto it, or talking to people about it.

That’s James Rasmussen, coordinator of the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition, from whom we found out there’s a community meeting Wednesday about June’s barge fire on the river. (More on that in a separate story.) Along with information, the festival is also a cultural celebration:

Dancers from the Somali Youth Community Center were onstage while we were there – we published the full entertainment lineup in today’s daily highlights list. They were followed by Vietnamese community performers, including a dancer who specializes in cha-cha:

And the many organizations and city departments there include Seattle Parks, with some hands-on education about river wildlife:

Go learn, play, and watch!

And did we mention that Sunday is “Dog Day,” including the CityDog Magazine Cover Dog Search? Organizers also want you to know, “If you purchase a ticket to Friday or Saturday sessions, that gives you free re-entry on Sunday, but you must have your bracelet and glass for re-entry!” There’s more to say but we’ll have to save it for another preview this weekend. Or – you can go explore the West Seattle Beer and Music Festival website right now, and buy your ticket(s) online too.

SPF30, PM REPORT: Sub Pop Records’ Alki celebration crescendo

(FOR COVERAGE FROM EARLIER IN THE DAY, go here)

6:58 PM: Evening is here and the final frenetic few hours of Sub Pop Records’ 30th-birthday party SPF30 are beginning. The crowd is thickening by the minute, and some are watching from the water:

Mudhoney‘s set is minutes away on the Harsh Realm stage at 57th/Alki. Shabazz Palaces is wrapping their set on the east side of the Bathhouse. More to come!

7:39 PM: Having some challenges with one signal provider so we’re behind on evening images. We will of course add when we can! Meanwhile, eyes on the sky:

Only the briefest of showers in the past six-plus hours. Just needs to hold out a few more.

8:32 PM: As featured in our first report, here’s the KEXP video stream:

At 9 pm, they’re scheduled to stream the last act of the night, Father John Misty. Here’s their clip of Beach House, the 8 pm band:

This is all supposed to end at 10 – remember that The Junction invites you to downtown West Seattle’s afterparty, including a DJ at West 5 (4539 California SW; WSB sponsor).

9:12 PM: Our Mudhoney clip remains stuck in cell hell. But Barry Devenney sent this photo of the crowd, during the band’s last song:

We just caught part of Father John Misty’s set, too. Lots more to add when we get back to HQ.

12:06 AM: Evening scenes! The crowd:

Hot Snakes:

Fastbacks:

Shabazz Palaces:

Beach House:

Mudhoney:

Here’s video by Tony Welch:

Father John Misty:

(Added Sunday: Video by Mark Jaroslaw:)

And as the party wrapped … Admiral Way was lined with people awaiting various forms of transportation, while the big tour-bus-size shuttles provided by Sub Pop circulated past.

P.S. We’re also adding more to our first report, which covered the afternoon and very-early evening.

SPF30, 1ST REPORT: Sub Pop party is rocking Alki, rain and shine

(SPF30 INFOLINKS: Music schedule here … transportation info here … food truck/vendor/etc. list here … video streaming here)

1:36 PM: At the Punky Stage on Alki Playfield, Caspar Babypants sang “Here Comes the Sun” shortly after opening his set at SPF30

It seems to have worked – we’re in a sunbreak as we type, starting our coverage of the huge Sub Pop Records 30th-birthday party, which is on at 4 stages (plus beer gardens, tents, and more) until 10 pm. The playfield is paradise for kids – along the west side, a big gathering of bouncy toys:

In the middle of the playfield, vendor/community tents include Alki Elementary PTA, steps from their school (here’s what they’re selling):

And the C & P Coffee Company (WSB sponsor) tent makes its debut, with cold brew:

Our coverage is just getting started. If you’re headed here, a few things you should know – really, don’t even try to park within a mile of Alki – we tried it before 1 pm and can vouch for the neighborhoods south of Admiral being full up. Meantime, Carolyn Newman sends a photo of the wait for the Water Taxi shuttle at Seacrest:

(Here’s all the Water Taxi info for today.) If you just can’t get here – KEXP is video-streaming some of the bands. Clicking the “play” button for this YouTube window should get you to their stream:

Here’s the streaming schedule.

2:18 PM: We’re still near the Punky stage, where The Not-Its are playing now.

Also among the organizations in mid-playfield booths, the Southwest Seattle Historical Society, beneficiaries of some fundraising today including the guitar that’s being auctioned … demonstrated here by West Seattle’s highest-ranking politician:

(If you’re new, he’s King County Executive Dow Constantine.) Thanks to Clay Eals for that photo. Want to read about and/or bid on the guitar? Go here. Also note that SWSHS’s Log House Museum here on Alki (61st SW/SW Stevens) IS open today, and you can check out the new “Sound Spots” music exhibit there until 4 pm.

3:23 PM UPDATE: We’ve just wandered the rest of the site. Most of the food trucks are along 59th just south of Alki Ave (with a few others scattered elsewhere):

59th is also where you’ll find bike parking, on the tennis court:

Along Alki Ave. are the three stages – Loma just performed at the Flippity-Flop stage on the east side of Alki Bathhouse:

Nearby, just west of the KEXP booth, a water-bottle-refilling station:

In general, it’s not too crowded yet – still room to roam from the streets to the spectator zones. And the weather has behaved for the past few hours.

5:17 PM: The crowd is building. Here’s a quick clip of Clipping, last hour:

Each of the three main stages has two acts ahead, including the Fastbacks, scheduled to get going about now at the Loser stage (west side of Alki Bathhouse), Hot Snakes also set to have started minutes ago at the Harsh Realm stage on Alki Ave. at 57th. Meantime, transportation is still busy – someone we know was passed by enough full Route 50 buses to give up and walk here.

6:03 PM: The two aforementioned bands:

LATE NIGHT NOTES: We’ve added a few photos above. And if you haven’t already seen it, our evening coverage continued here.

SPF30 updates: Setup begins; a vendor you’ll recognize; the guitar you can bid on now; streaming plans…

With three days until Saturday’s SPF30Sub Pop Records‘ concert-filled 30th anniversary celebration at Alki Beach – we have four more updates:

SETUP BEGINS: Thanks to David Hutchinson for the photos showing stage setup today on both sides of the Alki Bathhouse. Above, west of the Bathhouse, is the Loser Stage; below, to the east, the Flippity-Flop Stage:

Who’s playing when/where was announced two weeks ago; you can find it all fast on the right side of the main SPF30 webpage.

A VENDOR FIRST: The other two stages are Harsh Realm, at 57th/Alki, and Punky, at Whale Tail Park, where you’ll not only find kid-geared music but also this familiar vendor:

C & P Coffee Company (WSB sponsor) says this will be its first time with a pop-up outside the shop! They’ll be selling cold-brew coffee on Saturday. And another familiar West Seattle company will be nearby – Husky Deli. (We hope to have a full list of vendors for an upcoming update.)

FUNDRAISING GUITAR: Bidding is open online for this one-of-a-kind handmade guitar produced in commemoration of Sub Pop turning 30:

We got a look at it while covering the SPF30 volunteer orientation earlier this week. You can see it on display all week at Thunder Road Guitars (4736 California SW; WSB sponsor) in The Junction. It’s a fundraiser for the Southwest Seattle Historical Society, a beneficiary of SPF30. To bid on it – and to find out more about it – go here.

STREAMING: Can’t (or don’t want to) go on Saturday, but want to catch some of the shows? KEXP has announced a video-streaming schedule, with viewing options including its website and YouTube channel. Go here to see which bands it’s streaming and when.

P.S. In case you missed it – here’s the SPF30 transportation plan (including road closures, parking for motorized and non-motorized vehicles, transit, etc.) as announced Tuesday.

Sub Pop’s SPF30 celebration at Alki Beach: Here are the transportation plans – transit, parking, road closures, more

Now we’re four days away from Sub Pop Records‘ big SPF30 anniversary celebration at Alki Beach – noon-10 pm Saturday (August 11th), with four stages of music (here’s the schedule as announced last month). This afternoon, the final details of how to get there and back, and how to get around the Alki area even if you’re not going. The map above and info below were just made public by Sub Pop:

At this time, we’d like to share important details regarding street closures, public transportation schedules, parking and more.

Firstly and foremostly, PLEASE limit the number of cars coming in and out of West Seattle, don’t drive unless you really have to, and instead use some form of public transportation to get to SPF30!

BUSES
King County Metro Transit has increased frequency for the Route 50 (Alki Service) to operate every 15 minutes.

In addition, the RapidRide C-Line has a couple of extra buses to assist with any overloaded buses, primarily while event-goers leave the Alki Beach area.

WATER TAXI
The King County Water Taxi between downtown Seattle and West Seattle is adding an extra boat with extra runs and extending hours of service.

In addition to the MV Doc Maynard running its regular Saturday service, the Water Taxi plans on running an extra boat (the MV Sally Fox) on the West Seattle route from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 7:30 p.m. 11:30 p.m. These times are when we expect most people to be traveling to, and returning from, the event.

We strongly encourage you to purchase your Water Taxi tickets in advance. You can do so through the Transit GO app. Or use your ORCA card, for a reduced fare!

SHUTTLES
Three free shuttles will run within West Seattle throughout SPF30.
From…
1. SW Alaska St. & 44th Ave. SW at the Metro stop
2. SW Admiral Way and SW Waite St.
3. Harbor Ave. SW in front of Don Armeni Boat Ramp
…to SPF30 at Alki Beach and back.

There will be at least one accessible shuttle for patrons with disabilities on each of these routes.

BIKES & BIKE SHARES
There will be a Bike Corral located at the tennis courts at Whale Tail Park operated by Bike Works.

There will also be bike shares at some strategic locations as well as staged throughout West Seattle. Look for bikes at these locations:

1. Alaska Junction
2. Admiral Junction
3. Port of Seattle Lot
4. Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal
5. Spokane St. Park and Ride
6. Water Taxi

LYFT/UBER
Uber and Lyft will be managing the road closures for the festival in app. It will be best to catch a ride to and from the shuttle stops at the Alaska Junction and in the Admiral Neighborhood

There will be Lyft signage up at the Lyft Pickup/Drop-off zones.

PARKING
Once more, with feeling: please do not drive to SPF30. But, if you must, please carpool, designate a driver and know that we will have a parking lot. The parking fee will be $20. Credit/debit cards and cash are acceptable forms of payment. Location is the 2500 block of Harbor Ave SW across from the 7-11.

From this lot you can either walk approx. 4 min. to Don Armeni Boat Ramp to catch a free shuttle, or rent a bike and ride the Alki Trail to the festival.

The parking lot closes at midnight on the day of the festival (Sat., Aug. 11). Unclaimed vehicles will be towed by noon the next day. Please no Rideshare vehicles.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING
We have accessible parking spots reserved exclusively for patrons with disabilities in two locations. We ask that you display your placard/hang tags when parking. Please note these spots will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

1. On 63rd Ave SW between Admiral Way and Alki Ave SW
2. On Alki Ave SW between 54th Ave SW and 56th Ave SW

Accessible parking hang tags/placards will get you through local access street closures to these parking spots.

ROAD CLOSURES
Alki Ave SW will be closed between 56th Ave SW and 63rd Ave SW.
59th Ave SW will be closed from SW Stevens St. to Alki Ave SW.

There will be a local-access-only closure on Harbor Ave SW at California Way SW. Traffic will be turned back down Harbor Ave SW or diverted up California Way SW.

There will be lots of other local-access-only closures from SW Admiral Way down to Alki Ave SW, as well as a local-access-only closure at Bonair SW and Sunset Ave SW.

There will be festival staff and SPD helping to direct traffic at all of these closures.

5 days to SPF30: Briefing for volunteers who’ll be helping at Saturday’s Sub Pop event on Alki

Just five days until the Sub Pop Records 30th anniversary party at Alki Beach – noon-10 pm next Saturday (August 11th), with 18 bands on four stages (see the schedule here). Tonight, volunteers gathered at the beach for a briefing and T-shirt distribution – here’s what you’ll see them wearing on Saturday:

With the band list and schedule out, the final details yet to come primarily involve the final transportation plan, including road closures, and we’re expecting that tomorrow. It’s been five months since Sub Pop started bringing updates to neighborhood meetings, seven months since SPF30 was announced.

 |   West Seattle festivals | West Seattle news

You have a little more time to go browse at the beach as the 2018 Alki Art Fair (co-sponsored by WSB) continues until 6 pm. More than 80 artists, plus two stages of music:

That’s COCO, performing on the main stage (east of Alki Bathhouse) when we stopped by earlier this afternoon (trivia from fair staff, we’re told the band members all work for Starbucks). Here’s the full music schedule; here’s our preview from earlier this week with the artist/vendor list; here’s our Saturday coverage. You can still catch the shuttle to/from the fair (which is all along the beach boardwalk, Alki Avenue SW between 59th and 64th) until 6:30 – details on the AAF website.

DAY ONE: Alki Art Fair 2018!

 |   West Seattle festivals | West Seattle news | WS culture/arts

What a glorious day at the beach – and the first day of this year’s Alki Art Fair is part of it. As previewed here last night, 89 artists and 11 food vendors (from tamales to Thai) signed up for booths along the boardwalk. And you’ll find the first-ever Emerging Artists spotlight just west of Alki Bathhouse.

Inside the Bathhouse, it’s a benefit silent auction, so don’t miss that. Elsewhere at the fair, you’ll find art of many kinds, including jewelry (one artist makes his from chandelier crystal!), yard art, paintings, pottery, wearable art, stickers …

You’ll also find kids’ activities.

Plus community-partner organizations including Seal Sitters, whose volunteers will be happy to answer your questions about marine mammals. Booths are open until 6 today, 10-6 tomorrow, with music continuing until 9 tonight on the main stage (we’re sponsoring the busker stage toward the west end of the boardwalk; here’s the lineup for both stages).

That’s Levi Graves, first up today on the busker stage (photos added 2:11 pm).

In and around the Alki Bathhouse, setup is under way for this weekend’s Alki Art Fair (co-sponsored by WSB). We’ve already published the music schedule, and West Seattle’s own PNTA is on site setting up the main stage:

Here’s the overview from fair organizers, including what’s new:

We have 89 artists and 11 food vendors schedule to attend – over half of our artists are returning vendors! For the first time in 2018, the Fair will have an Emerging Artist Booth. We will be featuring 10 first-time Alki Art Fair artists who are just beginning their career. This booth was made possible by a grant we received this year from the Office of Arts and Culture.

Also for the first time, the Fair will have a Children’s Music Time from 10am to 12pm on Sunday morning. We will have children’s musicians at 10 am followed by Brian and Danika Duo (of Brian Vogan and his Good Buddies) at 11 am. The Little Gym of West Seattle will also be setup doing activities during that time. All weekend long we will have our Children’s Art Activities Booth (located right next to the Bathhouse) and our new Fairy Garden (located at the far end of the boardwalk). We hope to see more families come down and enjoy the event!

The Fair will run a FREE shuttle again from the West Seattle Park & Ride to the Fair. The shuttle will run continuously Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. It will pick up under the West Seattle Bridge at the West Seattle Park & Ride. It will go up Admiral Way, stopping at the Metro bus stop on the northwest corner in front of the Chevron station, and then will drop off in front of the Starbucks on Alki Ave. It will reverse this route on the way back to the Park & Ride. This is a great option to avoid circling the neighborhood for somewhere to park!

We received some wonderful donations from local West Seattle businesses for our Silent Auction which is held in the Bathhouse. Many of our artists also donate pieces of their work to the Auction.

We are also incredibly thankful for all of our sponsors this year which include: Full Circle, Getaround, Gutter Helmet, Office of Arts and Culture, Northwest Art & Frame, Renewal by Andersen of Seattle, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Therapeutic Associates of West Seattle, and West Seattle Blog. Our community sponsors are: Seal Sitters, Sea Shepherds, Log House Museum, and Aegis Senior Living.

The Fair goes from 10 am to 6 pm both days, with music until 9 pm on Saturday.

Here’s the full list of artists/vendors (including visiting food vendors).

Here in the heart of summer, waves of big events just keep rolling on … and another one is up next weekend: The 2018 Alki Art Fair! This will be the 21st annual AAF – if you’ve never been, here’s how it’s described by organizers: “Alki Beach will come alive with art booths, children’s art activities, food carts, live music and performances, and the very popular silent auction held in the historic Alki Bathhouse. The Fair features juried art on display and for sale by local Puget Sound artists, while a line-up of talented musicians and performers entertain from four stages, morning till night.” Official Alki Art Fair hours (on the boardwalk by and west of Alki Bathhouse) will be 10 am-6 pm next Saturday and Sunday (July 28-29), with music until 9 pm on Saturday. Bonus for getting there: A free shuttle from the park-and-ride under the bridge, as explained here. We’re proud to be an Alki Art Fair co-sponsor again this year; we’ll have another update with artist and music info as next weekend gets closer!

There’s an incentive to answer it, too – drawing for a West 5 (WSB sponsor) gift card – or you can be completely anonymous. Just go here!

P.S. If you need a refresher before responding to the survey, you can scroll through all our Summer Fest coverage in the WSB “West Seattle festivals” archive.

It’s a tradition every year – the “Mini-STP” bicycle ride to West Seattle Summer Fest! Don Brubeck of West Seattle Bike Connections sent these photos – from North Admiral to Gatewood and then to The Junction:

Don reports, “We did our 6th annual West Seattle STP bike ride today, riding from SW Seattle Street to SW Portland Street, and then back to Summer Fest. A great group of riders, young, old, and inbetween. The shady streets were the best!”

AS-IT-HAPPENED COVERAGE: West Seattle Summer Fest 2018, day 3!

(QUICK INFO: Bus reroutes here … Festival music schedule here … festival food options here … kids’ ride hours and pricing here)
(COVERAGE SO FAR: Saturday night music, here … Saturday evening, here … Saturday morning/afternoon, here … Friday night, with music, here … Friday evening, here … Friday morning/afternoon, here)

West Seattle Summer Fest‘s third and final day is officially under way! The question of the day so far – “where’s the Farmers’ Market?” As seen in our top photo, it’s in its old spot in the parking lot behind KeyBank – same hours as every week, 10 am-2 pm – if you’re trying to enter off SW Alaska, just look for the gap between the kids’ rides, on the alley.

Even if you’ve already been to the festival – today’s the day to come back and take another look, or do some things you missed on your first tour. Such as – support local nonprofits! More than a few of them are selling raffle tickets – including the West Seattle Helpline, West Seattle Food Bank, and the quilters who are donating raffle proceeds from this creation to the Senior Center of West Seattle:

The crowd has grown quickly today – maybe because it’s expected to be extra-hot later – so far, though, nice breeze! Mainstage music (California north of Oregon) starts at noon, with Rat City Brass. More coverage to come!

12:19 PM: Another place to find out about, and support, some of your local nonprofits/community groups – GreenLife, headquartered at Junction Plaza Park (42nd/Alaska), where they have a few T-shirts left:

Sustainable West Seattle presents GreenLife, where you can find out about the West Seattle TimeBank, Metro buses, registering to vote, recycling, using solar power, and more, via these booths along SW Alaska east of California:

Diver Laura‘s virtual-reality look under the Salish Sea is not to be missed, either – get to GreenLife!

Back in other booth rows, it’s a great day to learn about your local businesses (and pick up some swag). HomeStreet Bank (WSB sponsor) is right across from us in the heart of California/Alaska and has several freebies including discs.

Meantime, up at the mainstage, we caught a bit of the zesty Rat City Brass:

At California/Alaska, the Celtic dancers are expected to be back around 1. More coverage to come.

1:37 PM: They were, and it was a lively performance:

Comerford has regular sessions in West Seattle – e-mail celticartsnw@hotmail.com for info. Summer Fest isn’t just about being a spectator – you can participate too! The Giant Games continue up on the north side of California/Oregon, where you can also help paint the community mural. You can also stop by the Info Tent and ask us a question. Minutes ago: “I know Easy Street Records is famous, but WHY is it so famous?” (Our answer was long.)

3 PM: Only two hours left till the festival closes for another year – right now on the SW corner of California/Alaska, it’s the kids’ pie-eating contest.

(Junction Association executive director Lora Swift interviewing the contestants pre-contest)

Passing the Info Tent a few minutes ago, this cool canine:

Don’t miss the chance to contribute to the community mural before the festival ends – on California just north of Oregon:

The West Seattle Junction Association – the local merchants who put this festival on! – will hang the finished mural in a public space. Meantime, many of the sidewalk sales (did you know Summer Fest has its roots in a Junction-wide summer sidewalk sale?) are offering discounts – like the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop (west side of California between Alaska and Oregon), where these potted plant creations were just $4!

Some of the vendor booths are West Seattle merchants visiting from their storefronts. Longtime WSB sponsor Dream Dinners is based on the east outer side of Jefferson Square, and has a Summer Fest booth on the east side of California south of Alaska:

If you haven’t used Dream Dinners before, you can sign up for their open-house deal, for 6:30 pm Tuesday (July 17th) or August 7th – password dinner – make three dinners for $34.99!

3:25 PM: A bit of video from one of this afternoon’s bands:

Onstage coming up at 4 pm – The Dusty 45s rock Summer Fest 2018 to a close.

4 PM: It’s that time! Co-publisher is up catching the start of The Dusty 45s. Meanwhile, Paul Weatherman sent more great aerials:

That’s the heart of the festival – here’s what it looked like from above the Farmers’ Market and kid zones on the west edge of the festival a bit earlier:

When the festival officially ends at 5, the cleanup/breakdown begins, and the streets generally remain closed to traffic until it’s over hours later – but everything will be back to normal by early Monday morning. Remember that NEXT Saturday, California SW is closed again for the West Seattle Grand Parade, until early afternoon – here’s our most-recent preview.

4:30 PM: A taste of The Dusty 45s:

We don’t start packing up until the top of the hour but right across Walk-All-Ways from us is a sign the festival’s wrapping up – the QFC booth (water, coconuts, fruit skewers all weekend) is in cleanup mode.

Big thanks to everyone who’s been in the Info Tent all weekend – it’s our 11th year of being headquartered here and helping answer questions while covering the festival as it happens – lots of great volunteers have been here, as well as The Junction’s event staff (special shoutout to “Skaty” and producer Oliver Little‘s Monumental Undertaking).

5 PM: It’s a wrap! Thanks also to the thousands who made this a mega-party again this year.

VIDEO: Shannon & The Clams at West Seattle Summer Fest

(WSB photos/video. Above, band leader Shannon Shaw)

Up from the Bay Area to headline the second night of West Seattle Summer Fest, behold Shannon and The Clams! We recorded video of parts of the first three songs in their Summer Fest set:

The group’s bio notes they’ve toured and recorded extensively in the near-decade since they formed. They were introduced – as were Friday night’s headliners The Briefs – by West Seattle musician Brent Amaker.

No late-night concert for Summer Fest’s final day – when the festival wraps up Sunday at 5, that means everything. But it’ll be going out in style with the always-popular Dusty 45s at 4 pm (see the full schedule here).
