Just can’t get enough of the frosted Olympics. Thanks to Danny McMillin for the Monday photo of 7,743-foot Mount Constance, which we hadn’t previously known has a West Seattle link beyond the fact we can see it from here: Lt. George Davidson, who gave Fauntleroy its current name (the surname of his fiancée Ellinor Fauntleroy), also named Olympic peaks after members of her family, including sister Constance. But enough about the past – let’s look into the immediate future:

Clear weather is forecast all the way to New Year’s Day, and the Olympic Mountains are making an all-out appearance for the first time in a while. Along with gawking at our gorgeous surroundings, here are a few other options for the day/night ahead:

COASTLINE ‘SOFT OPENING’: As noted in our most-recent update, the new burger joint in The Junction was hoping to be open by month’s end. Looks like it will achieve that goal – tonight’s the night, according to this announcement we received:

We are very excited to announce the official opening of Coastline! Coastline will serve organic, grass-fed burgers on buns that are freshly baked in our house oven. Come enjoy real food made entirely from scratch with the freshest ingredients, and pair it with a delicious locally brewed draft beer. We would like to extend an invite to our community to join family and friends for our “soft opening” practice run on Monday, December 29 at 5 pm. (Some menu items may be limited.) FINAL DAY OF DECEMBER KING TIDES: Nothing extreme is expected but as shown in our Friday photos, the “king tide” is still a sight to see, and today the final 13-foot high tide of December is at 9:06 am. Sightseeing spots include Seacrest, where the floating Water Taxi dock will be almost at the level of the non-floating fishing pier, and Alki, where the water will be close to the top of the seawall.

BEEN TO THE MUSEUM LATELY? On this quiet between-holidays, low-on-events Saturday, the Log House Museum is open noon-4 pm and awaiting your visit to explore West Seattle-and-vicinity history. (61st/Stevens)

OFFICER INSTALLATION AT MASONIC LODGE: 5 pm, and you are invited:

Alki Masonic Lodge #152 announces its 109th installation of officers to be held at 5:00 pm (tonight) at the Alki Masonic Center near Alaska/Fauntleroy Junction at 4736 40th Ave SW. Elected officers to be installed are Martin Monk, Worshipful Master; Bill Van Cleave, Senior Warden; Michael Sawyer, Junior Warden; Richard Syson, Secretary; and Gary Langenbach, Treasurer. This installation is open to the public and all are invited to attend.

Alki Masonic Lodge is a West Seattle landmark, serving the community for over a century. West Seattleites may recognize Alki Lodge for its many philanthropic and community-based activities. Each year Alki Lodge gives several monetary awards for local high school scholars, and supports other local organizations like the Hi-Yu. Additionally, the Masonic Center is rented for many public and private events.

Two and a half months after a High Point hearing dominated by vigorously protesting opponents, the Seattle Housing Authority is reported to have set aside its proposed “Stepping Forward” rent-increase plan. The Seattle Times (WSB partner) cites a letter from SHA director Andrew Lofton to Mayor Ed Murray (linked here), acknowledging “many questions and concerns about the availability of living-wage jobs for low-income people.” Lofton’s letter says SHA will work on a new rent-policy proposal that will “take at least a year” and likely won’t be ready before 2016.

The city wants a waiver from Triangle development standards regarding street-level uses that the fire station won’t comply with. CITY COUNCIL ALASKAN WAY VIADUCT BRIEFING: 9:30 am, the council is scheduled to have a two-part briefing on matters related to the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Project and its tunnel troubles – 9:30 am, the latest on the “settling”; 9:50 am, the state of city plans for how to handle mobility if The Viaduct has to be shut down. This is the regular “briefing” meeting, so there’s no public-comment period, but it’ll be live on Seattle Channel (cable and online).

AFTERNOON BOOK GROUP: 2 pm at Southwest Branch Library, this month’s afternoon book group is reading Mary Shelley‘s “Frankenstein.” All welcome. (35th/Henderson)

CITY COUNCIL TALKS WHITE CENTER ANNEXATION: As first reported here on December 5th, the Seattle City Council is taking the first step toward calling for White Center and vicinity residents to vote on whether they want to be annexed (see the resolution here) – with the caveat that the city needs more help from the state in order to take this area on, so though they’re initiating the process, they might not follow it all the way through. This meeting does include a public-comment period at the start; it’ll also be on Seattle Channel (online and cable).

The Seattle Parks Department and Advisory Councils of the Southwest Geo district are proud to host the annual Argosy Christmas Ship arrival at Alki Beach.
