The photo was shared by Jean Williams, a dress-rehearsal photo looking ahead to tonight’s spotlight event – the first of two performances of this year’s Madison Middle School musical:

‘HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL’ AT MADISON MIDDLE SCHOOL: Tonight at 7 pm and Saturday at 10 am, in the auditorium at West Seattle High School, it’s the third year that Madison MS is producing and performing a musical production – this time, “High School Musical,” directed by Jenny Cross. Here’s the plot summary:

The smash Disney hit starts with the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations, and look forward to the new year. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical, led by Ms. Darbus. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

$10 tickets in advance – or at the door, $15/adults, $10/students. For advance reservations, e-mail madisonmiddleschoolplay@gmail.com ASAP! (3000 California SW)

Recognize this shoe? County trying to solve gruesome mystery

You might have heard about a shoe that washed up on the downtown waterfront … containing a foot. Above, that’s a photo of the shoe, which the county is distributing in hopes of finding out whose foot that was. Since it was just across the bay from here, we’re publishing the photo here too:

To assist in identifying a missing person, the King County Medical Examiner’s Office is releasing a photo of a shoe found along Seattle’s waterfront on May 6, 2014. The shoe was on a human foot, and they were turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office by employees of the Port of Seattle’s police department.

The shoe is a New Balance athletic sneaker, men’s size 10-1/2, white with blue trim. This model of shoe was first available for sale in April 2008. A black, cotton Hanes brand sock was also on the foot. The sex, age, ancestry, and stature of the individual are not known.

Anyone who is aware of a missing person known to have worn this type of shoe is asked to call the King County Medical Examiner’s Office at 206-731-3232, ext. 1. Additionally, anyone aware of a missing person who has not been reported is asked to file a missing persons report with the appropriate local law enforcement agency.

Now, to the big event (at which the bees will be in their enclosure):

Did you hear them? Mystery booms in West Seattle early today

10:29 AM: Though we still don’t know what they were, we’re mentioning this because we’re getting inquiries in all our channels: In the 5 am hour, multiple explosion-type sounds startled people awake in neighborhoods including Gatewood and High Point. Jeremy says it “shook (his) windows.” We’ve checked the police and fire logs and so far haven’t found any obviously related incidents – for example, if it were gunfire, and police found evidence, it would be logged as such. If you happen to know what it was – maybe somebody with fireworks in your neighborhood – help solve the mystery!

7:27 PM: Still a mystery. SPD Lt. Paul Leung, who was working at that hour, says he doesn’t recall any related calls, and there were no warrant services in the area (so much for the flashbang theory).
