(added) SUSTAINABLE WEST SEATTLE: The announcement for tonight’s 7 pm meeting:
Bring your Green Project Incubator grant ideas to tonight’s Sustainable West Seattle meeting at the Senior Center in Alaska Junction (4217 SW Oregon St. around the corner from California Ave. SW.
At our February Sustainable West Seattle meeting, groups or individuals with a proposal will be asked to present their idea and to interact with the audience describing their idea and the impact that project will have on the community. We will hand out comment cards to everyone for each project and as each presenter gives their idea, we will ask everyone to add a comment or suggestion to their card. At the end of all presentations we will ask the presenters to staff a table where they can further explain their project. The comment cards will be given to the presenters at their tables so that the reaction and additional suggestions can be integrated into their proposal.
We will also have a listing of all the proposals on a white board and will hand out stickers and request that everyone place stickers next to the various projects listed based on their priority. We will use a weighted system so everyone will get about 10 stickers and can distribute them as they wish, e.g. all 10 could be used to support a single project or the stickers could be distributed among several projects.

That’s just one of many videos Russian news organizations are circulating, showing what’s reported to be a meteor that streaked through Central Russian skies late last night our time.
While the videos are everywhere this morning, but information isn’t as abundant – so we wanted to let you know that West Seattle’s own Solar System Ambassador Alice Enevoldsen has been researching it – here’s the latest update on her Alice’s Astro Info website. (After we tweeted that link, a member of the WSB Twitter community, Kelley Bevans, summarized it as a “Russian meteor cheat sheet.”) Alice also is writing a periodic “Skies Over West Seattle“ roundup for WSB – the asteroid flyby (apparently NOT related to the meteor) was in the very first edition.

Today’s list of calendar highlights is all about Valentine’s Day. Above, Sarah shares photos of the famous Duckies of Lowman Beach: “The Ducks are in full Valentine’s gear and sharing the ‘LOVE’ with their West Seattle neighbors who are loving the tunes, especially the children.” Find them at 7031 Beach Drive, on the south side of Lowman Beach Park. Lit up at night, too!

Tonight is also West Seattle Art Walk night:

From Alki to Morgan Junction and beyond, here’s the list/map of who’s participating in the winter Art Walk season. Tonight from 6-9 pm, stop by any of those venues to see what’s on display and, in many cases, meet the artist(s). Most of the venues/artists are also showcased on the official West Seattle Art Walk website – as you’ll see here.
