Here’s what we’ve heard so far from West Seattle churches/synagogues – we’re updating not just to add what more we get, but also to remove services/events after they’ve occurred:
FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH OF WEST SEATTLE (WSB sponsor)
4105 California SWThe Three Days
In the Christian year, three days stand out above all the rest. Anciently known as the “Triduum,” these three days are considered one liturgy that begins on Maundy Thursday and reaches its climax at the Easter Vigil.
Maundy Thursday + April 2, 7:00 p.m.
The Triduum begins this evening by remembering Jesus’ last supper with his disciples which became the institution of the Lord’s Supper celebrated at every Eucharist. Tonight we hear Jesus’ command to love one another and partake in the feast of love. The altar is ceremoniously stripped and we leave in silence…
Good Friday + April 3, Noon and 7:00 p.m.
The Three Days continues on this day. The evening service of Tenebrae includes the Passion reading from John’s Gospel,
the service of light and darkness, the bidding prayers, and adoration of the cross. The Noon service will be a similar liturgy without Tenebrae. Again, we leave in silence without a final blessing…Easter Vigil + April 4, 7:00 p.m.
This is the night of nights! We begin with the lighting of the Paschal Candle, and then hear the story of salvation unfold in the scripture readings, renew our baptismal vows, and celebrate the Eucharist. The Triduum is complete. We celebrate the mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection and our participation in this mystery through the gift of baptism.
Easter Sunday + April 5, 10:30 a.m.
The celebration of the Vigil spills over into Easter Sunday with the celebration of the Resurrection. All stops are pulled as we rejoice with the news of Christ’s resurrection.

West Seattle High School presents Rogers & Hammerstein’s timeless classic, The Sound of Music, on April 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, and 10, with performances beginning at 7 pm.
The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision. (Concord Theatricals)
The production is directed by Joe Lambright, assisted by Allison Irvine, with vocal direction by Taylor Fritts and an all-student orchestra under the direction of Ethan Thomas. Tickets are $15 and are available at https://westsidedramatickets.ludus.com/index.php.

ArtsWest presents WALDEN by Amy Berryman directed by Producing Artistic Director Mathew Wright.
The cast features Marena Kleinpeter (WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ, Seattle Children’s Theatre), Josh Kenji Langager (ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE, Union Arts Center), and Porscha Shaw (WAITRESS, The 5th Avenue Theatre). WALDEN performs at ArtsWest from April 9 – May 3, 2026.
This work of speculative fiction is set in the near future. Stella and her fiancé, Bryan, are waiting at their remote cabin for Stella’s estranged twin sister, Cassie. Raised by their astronaut father to be NASA scientists, the twins have taken different paths: Cassie has just returned from a successful moon mission, while Stella left NASA behind. When Cassie arrives, old conflicts reignite, forcing the sisters to choose between life on Earth or pursuing a future in space, as humanity’s fate hangs in the balance. WALDEN is a thrilling and engrossing new play that wrestles between the gravitational pulls of duty and desire.
WALDEN’s science fiction realism allows audiences to look at our own world through a different lens. This deeply human story explores big ideas about politics and environmentalism through the intimacy, comedy, and relatable familial tension of sisters who yearn for connection. Just as we are experiencing politically divisive times, so are the characters at the center of the play. The Earth Advocates want the government to invest in saving earth, and find themselves at odds with the institution, NASA, which believes it’s way too late and ‘inhabiting’ (don’t use the politicized word ‘colonizing’) the moon and Mars is humanity’s only hope.
Playwright Amy Berryman has local roots. Berryman grew up in Seattle and is now based in New York. WALDEN had its world premiere on London’s West End in May 2021. It premiered off-Broadway in 2024 at Second Stage and was a nominee for the John Gassner Award from the Outer Critics’ Circle and a nominee for Outstanding Production of a Play from the Drama League.
WALDEN is the fourth production of ArtsWest’s 2025-2026 Season titled Between Us. The season features five bold contemporary plays that explore the invisible threads that bind us — the responsibilities we bear for one another, the debts of care we carry, and the lifelines we extend in moments of crisis. WALDEN explores the familial bond between two sisters at political odds and offers audiences the opportunity to think about how our impact on the planet may determine our collective future.
ArtsWest will present WALDEN Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 3 pm, April 9 – May 3, 2026.

On Saturday, April 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Little Shop of Hairdos will host a special Pay What You Can Haircutting Event at Hatten Hall inside The Center for Active Living.
Created with dignity and community care at its heart, the event offers professional haircuts to adults ages 50+ who may be living on a fixed income, navigating a tight financial season, or simply in need of a little extra kindness.
There is no set price. No pressure. A haircut is more than maintenance — it’s confidence, dignity, and feeling like yourself. We want our community to know they’re seen, valued, and supported.
Guests can stop by anytime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. — no appointment necessary. All haircuts will be provided by volunteer stylists from Little Shop of Hairdos, along with additional stylists from the broader beauty community. Every service will be offered with professionalism, respect, and an open heart.
All proceeds from the event will be donated directly back to The Center for Active Living, further supporting programs that enrich the lives of older adults in the Seattle area. Little Shop of Hairdos has long been committed to giving back to the communities it serves.
Through this event and others like it, the salon hopes to use its craft not just to style hair — but to strengthen connection, restore confidence, and show up meaningfully for its neighbors.
Because community is about showing up for one another.

Grief Support Groups
Grief groups are brave and safe spaces where bereaved people can share their stories and speak their loved one’s name without fear of getting advice, platitudes, or being shut out, no matter how long it’s been since their loved one’s passing. Every participant has dedicated time to speak about whatever they’d like, without judgment or interruption. Talking about our deceased loved ones in a supportive environment helps us remember them fully and helps us learn to carry the weight of their loss a little more gently.
These are ongoing, drop-in groups, but space is limited. Because of the sensitive nature of traumatic loss, the Thursday group is open only for those who are traumatic loss survivors. Learn more and register at listeningtogrief.com/groups. Contact Tamara at tamara@listeningtogrief.com with questions.

Sacred Birth Prenatal Yoga Series
Mother Matricaria‘s five-week prenatal yoga series offer the opportunity to connect with the person you’re becoming, the life you’re growing, and a community of others embarking on this new threshold together. We’ll work on building strength to support the demands of pregnancy and labor, coming into alignment, and finding greater access to breath. And we’ll cap it off with a dreamy savasana, because pregnancy is basically like running a 40-week marathon.
We believe there is no right way to birth. Our classes are non-dogmatic and are aimed at deepening your connection with yourself while building a coping mindset so you can handle whatever comes your way.
What’s included:
-Five, 90-minute yoga classes with optional time to connect over tea after class
-Weekly check-ins sharing the joys and challenges of pregnancy with others who get it

The Seattle Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society is pleased to announce a new class in West Seattle, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the promotion of Scotland’s unique dance form in the Seattle metro area.
The class welcomes both families and individuals ages eight and over, regardless of experience. This weekly introduction to joyful jigs, lively reels and elegant strathspeys will take place at Fauntleroy Church on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 beginning September 9th. The Church, located at 9140 California Avenue SW, has ample parking and is conveniently located on the RapidRide C line and a half mile from the Fauntleroy ferry terminal. Comfortable clothing permitting ease of movement, non-marking shoes and a good sense of humor are the only essentials for the class. An individual’s first class is free. Thereafter per class fees will be $10 and $5 for ages 8-17.
Seattle Branch Chair, EB Van Otterloo, will be one of the class instructors. Of Scottish Country Dancing, Van Otterloo says, “There are so many things to love about this form of dance. It’s social, but you don’t need to bring a partner. It’s good exercise for your body and your mind, and most of all, it is such good fun.”
Blaine Peet, who has taught Scottish Country Dancing around the world, will join Van Otterloo in teaching the new class. “Once you have learned the basics, you can dance with people anywhere across the U.S. and Canada, and around the globe. It’s a great way to make new friends in different cultures, no matter whether you are in Europe, Asia or Australia.”
The Seattle Branch has regular social events and runs classes in the U-District, at the Phinney Neighborhood Center and in Edmonds while also promoting classes in Tacoma, Burien and Mount Vernon, among others. More information is available at rscds-seattle.org/classes

Author Talk: Margaret S. Barrie discusses “Auntie M. Speaks “Wednesday, April 15, 2026, 6:30 – 7:45 p.m.
Join us for a discussion of the memoir of poetry and prose about Margaret’s childhood and beyond.
High Point Branch
Meeting RoomRegistration is not required.
About the book:
“Auntie M. Speaks” is a memoir of poetry and prose about Margaret’s childhood and beyond in a predominantly Black community––segregated by white politics––who created a village in the Central District (CD) of Seattle, where she and her siblings were nurtured in the 1950s and 1960s. Despite the redlining, they lived in a safe and healthy environment with friends, backyard gardens, fruit trees, and no fences. Her story is about the resilience of the community, the power of nature to heal, and her confidence to venture out to the broader community of adulthood and employment.
About the author:
Margaret S. Barrie holds a Master’s Degree in Human Development and lives in a deforested rainforest with her husband, Donald J. Barrie. Her debut book of poetry and prose, “Auntie M. Speaks”, is a fictional historical memoir inspired by her life’s experiences and episodes with family, community, nature, travel, and death. She’s been a member of the African-American Writers’ Alliance (AAWA) since 2012. The Alliance helped her refine her literary skills, encouraged her to write her story, and to submit her pieces to the anthology’s collectives.

Duwamish Alive! Celebrate Earth Month by Caring for Our Duwamish River
Volunteer on Saturday, April 18, 10 am-2 pmJoin us in celebrating the 20th anniversary of Duwamish Alive! while caring for Seattle’s only RIVER — the Duwamish, as we work together to improve its health. Volunteers will be restoring native habitat on in multiple urban parks and open spaces from Seattle to Kent in the ongoing effort to keep our river alive and healthy for our communities, salmon and the Puget Sound. Proving that by working together, we can make a substantial difference in improving the health of our region. We be working at sites, from Kent to Seattle to restore and preserve our areas of native habitat in the river’s watershed.
The river’s watershed includes forested areas such as the Duwamish Greenbelt, one of the largest in the lower section of the river, provides important air and water filtration of pollution, especially storm runoff one of the major sources polluting our waters. Tree canopy cover also reduces our summer heat domes, unequally affecting low income, communities of color to a greater degree. The river’s ecosystem supports 5 salmon species including the threatened Chinook salmon which is a critical food source for our Southern Resident Orcas; along with wildlife that includes river otters, beavers, bald eagles, and blue herons. Each of our habitat sites supports this web of life while providing important environmental benefits to our communities – we are all connected.
We are honored to help steward these locations which are the ancestral lands and waters of the Duwamish Peoples who have been here for thousands of years. Join us in caring for these special places. Family friendly, ALL are welcome. Tools and instruction are provided.
To volunteer, visit DuwamishAlive.org to see the different volunteer opportunities and register for the site of your choice.
