ArtsWest and Seda Iranian Theatre Ensemble present WISH YOU WERE HERE by Sanaz Toossi directed by Naghmeh Samini. The cast features Ainaz Azarhoush, Newsha Farahani, Shereen Khatibloo, Mahshad Zareeizadeh, Parmida Ziaei and Azadeh Zanjani. WISH YOU WERE HERE performs at ArtsWest from June 11 – July 5, 2026. Tickets are available online at artswest.org or by phone at (206) 938.0963.
It’s 1978 and protests are breaking out all across Iran, encroaching on a suburb where a tight-knit circle of girlfriends plans weddings, trades dirty jokes, and tries to hang onto a sense of normalcy. But as the revolution escalates, each woman is forced to join the wave of emigration or face an equally uncertain future at home. With breathtaking humanity and cutting wit, WISH YOU WERE HERE chronicles a decade of life during war, as best friends forever become friends long lost, scattered and searching for home.
WISH YOU WERE HERE marks the second co-production between ArtsWest and Seda Iranian Theatre Ensemble. In 2024, the two companies produced Sanaz Toossi’s Pulitzer Prize winning ENGLISH. An audience favorite, ENGLISH played to sold out houses throughout its run. WISH YOU WERE HERE delivers the quick-witted, fast paced comedic dialogue Toossi is known for and packs an emotional punch. While the play is set during the Iranian Revolution, spanning the years of 1978 to 1991, the playwright focuses the spotlight on a tightknit group of female friends and the universal way the bonds between our chosen family bend, break, evolve, and help us endure life’s toughest moments.
“Speaking about the Iranian people’s resistance always excites me, and this story is about how friendship, dancing, singing, sisterhood and loving one another become ways for people to survive during difficult political and social times in Iran,” remarks Director Naghmeh Samini, “It is a peaceful form of resistance: protecting the private sphere and keeping it joyful and alive while the public space is invaded by war, fear, and social disorder. This play gives me the chance to show how culture can be more powerful than war, violence, and oppression, and how friendship continues to resist across time. To me, true friendship is like a fossil: something that remains, endures, and carries memory even after everything else has changed.”
WISH YOU WERE HERE is the final production of ArtsWest’s 2025-2026 Season titled Between Us. The season features five bold contemporary plays that explore the invisible threads that bind us — the responsibilities we bear for one another, the debts of care we carry, and the lifelines we extend in moments of crisis. WISH YOU WERE HERE explores the complexity of lifelong friendships, and what we owe to our chosen family.

45th Ave SW and Seattle Street
The Duwamish Peninsula has been home to Coast Salish peoples at least as far back as the retreat of the last glacier 14,00 years ago. Despite the arrival of the colonial landing party, AKA the Denny Party, on Alki in 1851, the peninsula saw only scattered settlements in subsequent decades. In the late 19th century, European American settlers platted what is now the Admiral District.
Learn about the people who have lived along Duwamish head and Admiral district, attempts to erase Coast Salish people from residing here, and the annexation of “West Seattle” to the larger city in 1907. Stops include the Admiral Viewpoint Story Pole, Hainsworth House, the Benbow Room, West Seattle Library, the Admiral Theater, West Seattle High School, and the Sixth Church of Christ (home to the Washington Black Legacy Institute and the Seattle Griot Project).
End your tour with the Washington Black Legacy Institute and learn about their work preserving Seattle’s Black History.
The tour begins at Belvedere Park at the corner of 37th Ave and Admiral Way. Please consider parking in the neighborhood as parking at Belvedere Park is limited. Your tour ends at the Sanctuary at Admiral, known as the Sixth Church of Christ, which is about a ½ mile from your starting point.
Tours are offered every 3rd Saturday at 10:00 am and run until 12:00 pm. They include one and a half miles of walking and involve some elevation and disrupted walking paths.

Priorities change monthly to meet special and seasonal needs — so please check our website for updates.
The Westside Interfaith Network (WIN), our donations-drive partner, requests non-perishable food/personal hygiene items as well as men’s work clothing, socks, work boots, etc. Outdoor gear is always needed: blankets, tents, tarps, backpacks, etc.
Your donations are distributed through WIN’s “Welcome Table,” a weekly Saturday meal for unsheltered and low-income folks hosted in White Center. This distribution serves as a stopgap for many people relying on weekly visits to the food bank.
Can’t make it to the monthly drive? No problem! Just leave your donations in the barrel outside the church’s front entrance … at your convenience.
IF YOU WANT TO DONATE MORE THAN 3 BAGS, PLEASE CONTACT US FIRST TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS. We unfortunately don’t have the storage space or staff to accommodate large donations between drives.
Many of the folks who receive your donations are unsheltered. Please do NOT leave inappropriate household items that aren’t requested.
Deepest gratitude to our community for your generous support of our neighbors in need.

KENYON HALL PRESENTS
Bernard Struber & Laure Struber
Feat. The Mighty WurlitzerSunday, June 21st 2026
Doors: 2:00 pm / Show: 2:30 pmAll Ages
Seated
Suggested Donation – $20Bernard Struber lives in Strasbourg, France. He began studying music when he was nine years old. As a teenager, he displayed his musical range, performing regularly as a rock guitarist, a jazz pianist, and performing classical and liturgical pieces on pipe organ each Sunday. Mr. Struber’s range in instruments, style and repertoire, is part of his lifelong pursuit to enrich his musical life and achievements through the influence of multiple schools and cultures in music from around the world.
At the age of sixteen, Mr. Struber entered the Conservatory of Strasbourg, where he received several prizes for his mastery of the pipe organ. Not limited to one instrument, nor one style in music, he created the Department of Jazz and Improvisation at the Conservatory of Strasbourg in 1979. In 1987, Mr. Struber was instrumental in the creation of the Regional Jazz Orchestra in Alsace, now, “Struber’s Jazztett”. The Jazztett has premiered over 200 original compositions and arrangements and has played worldwide in major festivals in Paris, Vienne, Amsterdam, Washington, Berlin, and Odessa. Having also premiered compositions of contemporary music by Franco Donatoni, music for the Ballets de l’Opera du Rhin, and an original Jazz-Oratorio at the Strasbourg Cathedral, the Jazztet has many recordings in its long history. All show a range of interests and influences, including reflections on traditional music from Africa and Turkey (“The Flavours of Memory”), a recording influenced by rock music (“Parfum de Récidive”), and another recording inspired by 16th Century composer, Louise Labbé (“Soul Songs et Louise”). Recent original compositions by Mr. Struber include “Symphonie Déjouée”, recorded in May 2017, and “Fly to Hope”, a suite of seven preludes of improvisation based on polyrhythmic questions and new Chinese modes, which premiered in April of this year.
Our meetings will now be held on the 3rd Sunday of each month at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church (2750 California Ave SW).
The March meeting will feature a report from WSI leadership’s on-the-ground experience in Minneapolis*, an “opportunity fair” for folks to get connected and active with hyper-local organizations, and a fundraising bake sale to celebrate Valentine’s weekend.

Grief Support Groups
Grief groups are brave and safe spaces where bereaved people can share their stories and speak their loved one’s name without fear of getting advice, platitudes, or being shut out, no matter how long it’s been since their loved one’s passing. Every participant has dedicated time to speak about whatever they’d like, without judgment or interruption. Talking about our deceased loved ones in a supportive environment helps us remember them fully and helps us learn to carry the weight of their loss a little more gently.
These are ongoing, drop-in groups, but space is limited. Because of the sensitive nature of traumatic loss, the Thursday group is open only for those who are traumatic loss survivors. Learn more and register at listeningtogrief.com/groups. Contact Tamara at tamara@listeningtogrief.com with questions.
Mondays: 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm at Mama Be Well Healing Studio
Thursdays: 10 am – 11:30 am, same location, starting 6/4/26$32/session. 4 sessions for $102 (use within 6 weeks). Discounts are available for those who could otherwise not afford to attend.
Organizer Chris was inspired by a group he encountered during an extended stay in Mexico, “a weekly intercambio, or exchange, where Mexicans wishing to learn English and immigrants and tourists wishing to learn Spanish could practice speaking in a casual atmosphere in a cafe.” Upon return, he formed one, and now it meets twice weekly:
We began meeting on Wednesday nights upstairs at Mission Cantina about two months ago. Mission has truly made us feel at home and we regularly have between 5-15 attendees. One of our members started up a Monday night group upstairs at Future Primitive Brewing in White Center that is growing weekly. Other members have stepped up to be admins or to provide graphics.
We are a welcoming group wherever you are on your Spanish journey. Beginners get a chance to practice speaking with others. Intermediate speakers can learn with others. And more fluent speakers have enjoyed the chance to be able to speak Spanish with others. It has been impressive to see the patient good hearted people attending build a real sense of community.
We meet from 6:30-8:30 on Monday nights upstairs at Future Primitive Brewing at 9832 14th Ave SW in White Center. Farm Boy is closed that night, but you can bring in food from any place in White Center. The space is excellent for conversation.
We also meet from 6:30-8:30 on Wednesday nights upstairs at Mission Cantina at 2325 California Ave SW. You order your food or drink at the bar and they will bring it up to you.
If you are interested in joining us, please come! The only structure involved is to try and speak as much Spanish as you can. No RSVP is necessary and it is okay to arrive late if you need to. Gracias a todos!
Mondays: 6:30-10 pm

This weekly introduction to joyful jigs, lively reels and elegant strathspeys will take place at Fauntleroy Church on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 beginning September 9th. The Church, located at 9140 California Avenue SW, has ample parking and is conveniently located on the RapidRide C line and a half mile from the Fauntleroy ferry terminal. Comfortable clothing permitting ease of movement, non-marking shoes and a good sense of humor are the only essentials for the class. An individual’s first class is free. Thereafter per class fees will be $10 and $5 for ages 8-17.
Seattle Branch Chair, EB Van Otterloo, will be one of the class instructors. Of Scottish Country Dancing, Van Otterloo says, “There are so many things to love about this form of dance. It’s social, but you don’t need to bring a partner. It’s good exercise for your body and your mind, and most of all, it is such good fun.”
Blaine Peet, who has taught Scottish Country Dancing around the world, will join Van Otterloo in teaching the new class. “Once you have learned the basics, you can dance with people anywhere across the U.S. and Canada, and around the globe. It’s a great way to make new friends in different cultures, no matter whether you are in Europe, Asia or Australia.”
The Seattle Branch has regular social events and runs classes in the U-District, at the Phinney Neighborhood Center and in Edmonds while also promoting classes in Tacoma, Burien and Mount Vernon, among others. More information is available at rscds-seattle.org/classes

As the soccer world descends on the Pacific Northwest next month, King County Department of Local Services and White Center Pride are teaming up to bring together community to celebrate in a way that’s uniquely White Center.
On Friday, June 26, they will hold a free community watch party and festival called “Gather for Goals” along 16th Avenue SW in the heart of White Center.
The watch party is a chance for community members to enjoy the world’s largest soccer competition without leaving their community or venturing into the neighboring host city.
It’s also a chance to remind the world that White Center respects and appreciates people of all backgrounds.
“The Gather for Goals watch party and festival is a chance to celebrate the world’s biggest sporting event while highlighting everything that makes White Center such a vibrant and special community,” said Department of Local Services Director Leon Richardson. “This is an incredible opportunity for our community to be part of a truly global experience. We’re proud to showcase White Center and can’t wait to welcome the world to our doorstep.”
“White Center Pride is always game to help bring more joy, inclusion and togetherness in our community,” said White Center Pride President Eliot Hills. “We can’t wait to Gather for Goals!”
Between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., matches from the world’s largest soccer competition will be shown on one of five giant screens along a three-block stretch of 16th Avenue SW, starting north just past SW Roxbury Street and extending south to SW 100th Street.
The matches taking place on June 26 that will be shown include Norway vs. France; Senegal vs. Iraq; Cape Verde vs. Saudi Arabia; and Uruguay vs. Spain.
Aside from the watch party, event-goers will be able to shop dozens of local street food and merchandise vendors, as well as nearby restaurants and shops that will be open for business. There will also be plenty of family activities, including a kids area with face painting and balloon artists.
During the event, this portion of 16th Avenue SW will be closed to vehicle traffic. Attendees will be encouraged to take transit to the event. Organizers are also coordinating with nearby organizations for potential event parking. More information will be available closer to the day of the watch party.
So, remember to mark your calendars for June 26 and prepare to celebrate every goal with your community in White Center.
