Michelle Shocked
feat. Cintra WilsonSaturday, March 21st 2026
Doors: 7:00 pm / Show: 7:30 pm
Seated
$30 GeneralBootleg This! Truth vs Reality v2.0
For over 20 years, acclaimed picker-poet Michelle Shocked has been generating compelling lyrics and mnemonic melodies.
In the ’80′s, she was thrust into an inadvertent recording career when a bootleg tape was released in England. In the ensuing bidding war following the phenomena of The Texas Campfire Tapes, Mercury Records signed her and she produced a trilogy of Grammy-nominated albums over the next five years, launched by her signature song, “Anchorage.”
Michelle ultimately fought and won her master recording and publishing rights, which caused her to be Blacklisted from performing and releasing new music for 5 years.
As she worked to rebuild her recording and performance career in 2013, according to the Internet, Michelle was both ‘The World’s Greatest Homophobe’™ … and a closet lesbian.
But in reality, she was the target of a relentless, widespread defamation campaign, and this story of her 13-year struggle to survive is a fascinating tale of creative resilience that you’ll be interested to hear and share with anyone you know or meet who gets caught in this spider’s web of private surveillance and piracy-for-profit.
Michelle wants you to hear her story; one that has been told, so far, as profitable clickbait by digital tabloid media. Just wait until you hear how her 2013 cancellation was staged.
Onstage, I had boldly titled my performance “Truth Vs Reality.” But when my bootlegged epic exploit went viral, it became “The Bird Heard ‘Round The Word.” And in this life-or-death fight for artists’ rights … the first round’s just the warning shot.
CINTRA WILSON is a writer and artist living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her work deals with the economic and cultural murder of the middle class in an absurdist voice. Former NYT fashion critic, New York Review of Books. Cultural X-Ray. Author of “A Massive Swelling: Celebrity Re-examined As A Grotesque, Crippling Disease”

Register OnlineAs New York Times obit writer Margalit Fox says, “Obituaries have next to nothing to do with death and absolutely everything to do with life.” Death notices have been written to be shared for thousands of years. Obituaries have changed because our attitudes about death have changed. Now, humor is not out of place. For example, one man wrote of his father: “We have all done our best to enjoy/weather Robert’s antics up to this point, but he is God’s problem now.” Another obit mentioned the subject died with the request that his family work to get Congress to repeal Day Light Savings Time.

Grief Support Groups
Grief groups are brave and safe spaces where bereaved people can share their stories and speak their loved one’s name without fear of getting advice, platitudes, or being shut out, no matter how long it’s been since their loved one’s passing. Every participant has dedicated time to speak about whatever they’d like, without judgment or interruption. Talking about our deceased loved ones in a supportive environment helps us remember them fully and helps us learn to carry the weight of their loss a little more gently.
These are ongoing, drop-in groups, but space is limited. Because of the sensitive nature of traumatic loss, the Thursday group is open only for those who are traumatic loss survivors. Learn more and register at listeningtogrief.com/groups. Contact Tamara at tamara@listeningtogrief.com with questions.

The Seattle Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society is pleased to announce a new class in West Seattle, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the promotion of Scotland’s unique dance form in the Seattle metro area.
The class welcomes both families and individuals ages eight and over, regardless of experience. This weekly introduction to joyful jigs, lively reels and elegant strathspeys will take place at Fauntleroy Church on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 beginning September 9th. The Church, located at 9140 California Avenue SW, has ample parking and is conveniently located on the RapidRide C line and a half mile from the Fauntleroy ferry terminal. Comfortable clothing permitting ease of movement, non-marking shoes and a good sense of humor are the only essentials for the class. An individual’s first class is free. Thereafter per class fees will be $10 and $5 for ages 8-17.
Seattle Branch Chair, EB Van Otterloo, will be one of the class instructors. Of Scottish Country Dancing, Van Otterloo says, “There are so many things to love about this form of dance. It’s social, but you don’t need to bring a partner. It’s good exercise for your body and your mind, and most of all, it is such good fun.”
Blaine Peet, who has taught Scottish Country Dancing around the world, will join Van Otterloo in teaching the new class. “Once you have learned the basics, you can dance with people anywhere across the U.S. and Canada, and around the globe. It’s a great way to make new friends in different cultures, no matter whether you are in Europe, Asia or Australia.”
The Seattle Branch has regular social events and runs classes in the U-District, at the Phinney Neighborhood Center and in Edmonds while also promoting classes in Tacoma, Burien and Mount Vernon, among others. More information is available at rscds-seattle.org/classes

How do we pursue peace in the face of escalating violence, polarization, genocide, and war? One important way is through prayer. All who long for peace are invited to join not only our Parish Family but our larger West Seattle community for a HOLY HOUR FOR PEACE on Wednesday, March 25 from 7:00-8:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The service will include contemplative music, Taizé chant, and prayers for peace. As Pope Leo noted, “Peace is a risk, Leo said: “We must dare peace! Even if the world turns a deaf ear to this appeal, we are certain that God will hear our prayer and the cries of so many who suffer. God wants a world without war. He will free us from this evil!” As we pray together, we grow in communion and solidarity, forming ourselves to bring peace, justice, and healing into a divided world. Please invite friends and family to join us. Contemplative music will begin at 6:45, leading into the holy hour at 7:00. A small reception with refreshments will follow.
Do you love music? Do you like games? Come check out Music Bingo at Good Society every Wednesday from 7-9 PM! Bring your friends and enjoy some tunes and brews with chances to win prizes!

Stand Up Comedy ShowSaturday, March 28th, 2026
Doors: 7:00 pm / Show: 7:30 pmAll Ages
Seated
$15 GeneralEver feel like your brain is doing way too much? Like one small thought turns into a full spiral, a personality trait, and somehow a memory from 2009? Big Thoughts is a stand-up comedy show for anyone who overthinks, overanalyzes, and still can’t stop laughing at how weird it all is.
Headlined by Lou Moon, Big Thoughts is a night of smart, thoughtful, and deeply funny stand-up that zooms in on the absurdity of everyday life: identity, relationships, mental gymnastics, and the moments that feel way bigger in your head than they ever needed to be. Lou’s comedy balances introspection with punchlines, blending big ideas with grounded, relatable humor. This show features a stacked lineup of comedians who know exactly how to walk that line between clever and unhinged.
—
Lou Moon is a comedian and writer from Phoenix Arizona. His stand up style merges absurdism and observational comedy with stories about his life, often times fueled by his neurosis and disabilities. His debut album “Lou” is out on the Stand Up! Records label, and has an episode on the special “Zen Comedy” streaming on Amazon Prime.
Zack Lyman is a national touring comedian/writer based in Seattle. He has performed in black box theaters and comedy clubs across the country showcasing his high-energy comedy. He is best known for his work on “The Big Laugh” TV Show (Amazon Prime) and “Zen Comedy” hour special (Amazon Prime). He has performed at Best of Fest (Loveland Comedy Festival) and been named a “Comic to Watch”. You can see him performing across the country in his upcoming tour.
Cam Kiernan is a PNW based comedian seen on Amazon Prime and Tubi. She’s performed across the country and opened for comedians including Jocelyn Chia, Simon Gibson, and Sureni Weerasekera. She’s an actor, Improvisor, and trained clown. You can catch her performing at Hotties of Comedy in Seattle or at festivals across the country.
