Chakras Made Simple @ Inner Alchemy Studio & Sanctuary
May 17 @ 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm

5/17 from 3-6pm
5/31 from 12-3pm

CHAKRAS MADE SIMPLE: Become Aware Through the 5 Senses

This session is designed for everyone, no prior knowledge is needed. It’s a fun, relaxed, in-person experience where we explore the 7 chakra energy centers through our five senses.

The best way to think of it is a sensory journey that’s equal parts educational and honestly indulgent (we heart self-care!):

SEE: Learn the colors and basics of the 7 main chakras

FEEL: Move your body with gentle, guided movements (join as you feel able – zero pressure)

HEAR: Experience a guided meditation and live sound bath.

SMELL: Explore essential oil pairings for each chakra

TASTE: Yes, there are snacks. Intentional, chakra-supporting snacks. Yum!

It’s 3 hours of movement, meditation, sound, scent, and flavor wrapped up in all sorts of good energy.

Join us at Inner Alchemy, Sanctuary and Studio located at 3618 SW Alaska Street, Seattle 98126. The entrance is on 37th Ave Sw, on the lower level of the building, with an Inner Alchemy sign to the right of the door.

West Seattle Photography Club @ Easy Street Records
May 17 @ 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

The second meetup of the West Seattle Photography Club is happening this Sunday, May 17th from 3–5 PM during Happy Hour! 🍻🥗🍱🍧

Bring your camera. Bring your creativity. Bring your latest gear obsession you definitely “needed.” 😅

Whether you shoot with a professional setup, a tiny street camera, a drone, or just a phone… come hang out with fellow local photographers, creators, and camera nerds. Beginners to advanced welcome.

📷 The first hour will be a quick show-and-tell of your favorite piece of gear, accessory, app, trick, or little photography game-changer if your up for the share. I’ll go first of course.

📸 The second hour will be a fun super secret photo challenge where we’ll split up in groups(depends on turnout) get creative, and see what everyone captures. Then either meet back up or share in the FB group. Game-time decision on that.

We’ll talk photography, share ideas, make connections, and probably spend at least 20 minutes debating Canon vs Sony vs Fuji while pretending gear doesn’t matter. 😂

📍 Easy Street Records – West Seattle🕒 Sunday, May 17 • 3–5 PM

Last meetup was amazing, and we’re just getting started.

Come make real relationships… not just followers.

Listening to Grief Peer Support Groups @ Mama Be Well Healing Studio
May 18 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Grief Support Groups

Grief groups are brave and safe spaces where bereaved people can share their stories and speak their loved one’s name without fear of getting advice, platitudes, or being shut out, no matter how long it’s been since their loved one’s passing. Every participant has dedicated time to speak about whatever they’d like, without judgment or interruption. Talking about our deceased loved ones in a supportive environment helps us remember them fully and helps us learn to carry the weight of their loss a little more gently.

These are ongoing, drop-in groups, but space is limited. Because of the sensitive nature of traumatic loss, the Thursday group is open only for those who are traumatic loss survivors. Learn more and register at listeningtogrief.com/groups. Contact Tamara at tamara@listeningtogrief.com with questions.

Scottish Country Dancing classes in West Seattle @ Fauntleroy Church
May 19 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

The Seattle Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society is pleased to announce a new class in West Seattle, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the promotion of Scotland’s unique dance form in the Seattle metro area.

The class welcomes both families and individuals ages eight and over, regardless of experience. This weekly introduction to joyful jigs, lively reels and elegant strathspeys will take place at Fauntleroy Church on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 beginning September 9th. The Church, located at 9140 California Avenue SW, has ample parking and is conveniently located on the RapidRide C line and a half mile from the Fauntleroy ferry terminal. Comfortable clothing permitting ease of movement, non-marking shoes and a good sense of humor are the only essentials for the class. An individual’s first class is free. Thereafter per class fees will be $10 and $5 for ages 8-17.

Seattle Branch Chair, EB Van Otterloo, will be one of the class instructors. Of Scottish Country Dancing, Van Otterloo says, “There are so many things to love about this form of dance. It’s social, but you don’t need to bring a partner. It’s good exercise for your body and your mind, and most of all, it is such good fun.”

Blaine Peet, who has taught Scottish Country Dancing around the world, will join Van Otterloo in teaching the new class. “Once you have learned the basics, you can dance with people anywhere across the U.S. and Canada, and around the globe. It’s a great way to make new friends in different cultures, no matter whether you are in Europe, Asia or Australia.”

The Seattle Branch has regular social events and runs classes in the U-District, at the Phinney Neighborhood Center and in Edmonds while also promoting classes in Tacoma, Burien and Mount Vernon, among others. More information is available at rscds-seattle.org/classes

Skunk Works Robotics info sessions @ time, location info on RSVP
May 21 all-day

Info sessions are Saturday, May 16, 1:45 pm – 3:30 pm and Thursday, May 21, 6:15 pm – 8:00 pm:

Skunk Works Robotics just completed its 20th season competing in the FRC division of FIRST robotics. FIRST Inspires. The Skunks were on the winning alliance at the Sammamish district event in March and qualified for the PNW District Championships held in Cheney at Eastern Washington University in April.

FIRST robotics does involve building robots but it is much more than that. Students are a part of a competitive team that works together to analyze a game challenge that is different every season. They must decide what the most important scoring opportunities are in the game and how to design, build and program a robot that can meet those opportunities. The game challenge is announced in January and competitions begin in March so teams have to work fast and balance priorities to make sure they have a robot ready to take the field.

The Skunks meet at Highline College and have team members from over a dozen schools. The team is looking for 9-12 graders, and perhaps some motivated 8th graders, to be a part of a competitive robotics team and have fun while learning. An interest in STEM is useful but no special knowledge is required. Learn while doing.

Skunk Works Robotics is comprised of multiple subteams. The design subteam tries to take the decisions and goals that were determined during the game analysis and find a way to structure a robot that can move around the field quickly and safely while performing its required tasks. There are size and weight limits for each season so designers must take those requirements into consideration. There are also other robots on the game field so collisions are inevitable and durability is a factor as well as ease of repair when durability wasn’t enough.

The electrical subteam has to work with the design subteam to wire all of the motors and sensors and cameras on the robot. The robot’s battery must be readily accessible as it has to be swapped out every match but sensitive electronics have to be protected from damage, dust and metal shavings.

Programmers design the controls and logic that run the robot and integrates the data from its sensors into information that can be handled autonomously by the robot or displayed for the driver and operator.

The shop subteam makes the design a reality by creating the parts, prepping them and assembling the robot with its various subsystems. Some parts are available from specialty vendors while others are made from sheet metal, polycarbonate, 3D printed parts and other materials.

There are two other subteams that are very important to the team that may not immediately come to mind. The scouting subteam takes the game challenge and analyzes it, breaking it down into different components so the abilities of each robot at a competition can be understood and rated. Data analytics has become a vital part of all professional and college sports and competitive robotics is no different. Knowing what your alliance partner or opponent is capable of and what their preferences or habits are can help devise a winning strategy.

The business and marketing subteam may work on a slightly different schedule and with different priorities than the others but it is no less vital. It is the connection from the team to the community, to supporters and sponsors and to other teams. Banners, outreach events, buttons, photography, social media…all come from the business and marketing subteam. Presentations and documentation for the team are also run by business and marketing.

If you know someone who might be interested, the team will have info sessions on May 16th and May 21st. More information can be found here: https://www.skunkworks1983.com/flyer. Signups for the info sessions can be found here: Interest Form for Skunk Works Robotics, 2026 -2027 – Fill out form

Understanding POTS: A Guide for Patients and Families with Dr. Megan Taylor, ND, FABNG
Thursday, May 21st at 12:30 pm PST
*recording available for those who can’t make it live

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system (often grouped under an umbrella condition called Dysautonomia) that affects how the body regulates heart rate, blood flow, and energy—especially under stress. The symptoms of POTS can be vague and hard to recognize, often leading to unnecessary delays in the diagnosis and treatment of this condition. Though largely invisible, this condition can be debilitating, leading to patients to limit their activities, avoid social events, reduce work hours, or even take long-term leave from work or school. But there is hope! Patients can experience real and meaningful improvement over time with the right combination of education, lifestyle strategies, and medical care.

Join Dr. Megan Taylor for this upcoming FREE webinar where she will share more about this condition as well as some supportive lifestyle strategies and tools to support it.

This community-driven idea was selected and funded through King County’s Participatory Budgeting program (early estimate $100,000).

Pedestrian safety improvements and traffic calming project on 16th Avenue SW, between SW 100th Street and SW 107th Street: We are near completion of a multi-year project to make this busy road safe for everyone, including:
-Creating one lane in each direction with a center turn lane and bicycle lanes in both directions
-Modern ADA curb ramps
-Sidewalk curb extensions
-Rapid flashing lights and new pedestrian crossing signs at intersections without a traffic signal

Rainbow Sidewalk: The curb cut-outs on both sides of 16th Avenue SW at the sidewalk between SW Roxbury Street and SW 98th Street will be painted in vibrant rainbow colors.

Organizers will also share how the county’s investments in the White Center Business Alliance are helping to boost business engagement, promote the district, support community events, and advocate for the small businesses that make “Rat City” unique.

Listening to Grief Peer Support Groups @ Mama Be Well Healing Studio
May 25 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Start of 5-week Sacred Birth Prenatal Yoga Series @ Sacred Growing Space
May 26 @ 6:00 pm

Sacred Birth Prenatal Yoga Series

Mother Matricaria‘s five-week prenatal yoga series offer the opportunity to connect with the person you’re becoming, the life you’re growing, and a community of others embarking on this new threshold together. We’ll work on building strength to support the demands of pregnancy and labor, coming into alignment, and finding greater access to breath. And we’ll cap it off with a dreamy savasana, because pregnancy is basically like running a 40-week marathon.

We believe there is no right way to birth. Our classes are non-dogmatic and are aimed at deepening your connection with yourself while building a coping mindset so you can handle whatever comes your way.

What’s included:
-Five, 90-minute yoga classes with optional time to connect over tea after class
-Weekly check-ins sharing the joys and challenges of pregnancy with others who get it
-Themed classes offering opportunities for reflection, connecting with baby, and connecting with yourself as a parent
-Pregnancy- and birth-specific movements that empower you to find ease, strength, and balance in your body at any stage of pregnancy
-Access to a WhatsApp group to start building your local parenting community beyond class sessions
-Herbal extras for pregnancy and postpartum

Scottish Country Dancing classes in West Seattle @ Fauntleroy Church
May 26 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
