Why Donate Blood?
Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Blood transfusions are
essential for patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatment, managing chronic illnesses, and
responding to traumatic injuries. Despite this urgent need, only about 3% of eligible donors in
the U.S. actually donate blood. A single donation can save up to three lives.About Bloodworks Northwest
Bloodworks Northwest has been serving the Pacific Northwest since 1944. It provides blood to
nearly 100 hospitals across Washington, Oregon, and Alaska, operating 12 donor centers and
thousands of mobile blood drives each year. In addition to blood collection, Bloodworks is a
leader in blood-related medical research and innovation. Learn more at www.bloodworksnw.org.

Grief Support Groups
Grief groups are brave and safe spaces where bereaved people can share their stories and speak their loved one’s name without fear of getting advice, platitudes, or being shut out, no matter how long it’s been since their loved one’s passing. Every participant has dedicated time to speak about whatever they’d like, without judgment or interruption. Talking about our deceased loved ones in a supportive environment helps us remember them fully and helps us learn to carry the weight of their loss a little more gently.
These are ongoing, drop-in groups, but space is limited. Because of the sensitive nature of traumatic loss, the Thursday group is open only for those who are traumatic loss survivors. Learn more and register at listeningtogrief.com/groups. Contact Tamara at tamara@listeningtogrief.com with questions.

F3, a free national men’s workout group:
We have a local workout location that meets at Hiawatha park on Tuesday mornings at 5:30 am sharp. The group has been around for a few years, so many folks that are up early might have come across us before doing burpees or pushups and counting out loud. We’d love to extend the invite to men of any fitness level – we work out as a group and don’t leave anyone behind, come as you are and hopefully leave a bit better.
The workout is 45 minutes long and then we all get coffee at West Seattle Grounds. You don’t need to bring anything special, just wear comfortable athletic clothes appropriate for the weather and some sneakers. Some work or gardening gloves can be helpful if you have a pair. Just don’t be late or the whole group is doing penalty burpees.

How to BE a better pet parent.
Thursday August 14, 7-9 pm, $40Have you ever caught your pet giving you that look—the one that says, “I’m trying to tell you something… are you getting this?”The truth is—your animals are always communicating. They’re picking up on your thoughts, emotions, and energy far more than you may realize. The question is: are you sending clear messages in return? And are you listening?
In this engaging session, you’ll explore:
• What your animals are already picking up from you—and how to become more aware of the signals you’re sending
• How to communicate clearly so your animals understand your needs, expectations, and love
• How to receive and interpret messages from your animal companions—whether they’re beside you, across the room, or have crossed the rainbow bridgeWe’ll cover the basics of how animal communication works, practice simple yet powerful techniques, and learn how to stay open and attuned—so you’re always ready to hear, not just when you sit down and try. You’ll also discover how this ability extends beyond your pets to wildlife, farm animals, and those in Spirit—and we’ll explore gentle ways to connect with beloved animals who have passed on.Whether you share your life with dogs, cats, bunnies, birds—or simply hold a deep love for animals—this class will leave you more connected, more confident, and more in tune with the beautiful beings who walk this earth beside us.

Sunset Reiki Sound Bath at the Park
Friday August 15, 7-8 pm, $40Join us for a soul-soothing Sunset Reiki Sound Bath, a unique outdoor experience designed to restore, realign, and renew your energy under the radiant hues of the setting sun. As daylight softens into twilight, allow yourself to be held by nature while the gentle flow of Reiki energy—a deeply calming form of healing touch—works to clear energetic blocks and invite balance. At the same time, the mesmerizing tones of crystal singing bowls, chimes, and other vibrational instruments will wash over you in waves, guiding your body and mind into a deep state of rest and harmony. The open air amplifies the magic, letting your breath sync with the rhythm of the Earth, sky, and sound. The exact outdoor location, carefully chosen for peace and privacy, will be shared upon registration. Come connect with yourself, with nature, and with a circle of calm under a glowing sunset sky.
A Reiki sound bath is a healing experience that combines the principles of Reiki energy healing with sound therapy. During the session, a practitioner uses various sound instruments, like singing bowls, gongs, or chimes, to create soothing vibrations and frequencies. These sounds help to relax the body, mind, and spirit while the practitioner channels Reiki energy, which promotes balance and healing. The combination of sound waves and Reiki energy is intended to enhance relaxation, reduce stress, and support emotional and physical healing. It’s a deeply meditative and restorative practice.

Dust off your reusable totes and mark your calendars: the Delridge Farmers Market is back with more vendors, an array of culturally rich foods, handcrafted goods, and community-driven initiatives. Kicking off its 2025 season on Saturday, May 17, this beloved community hub will run every Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM until the end of October at 9421 18th Ave SW.
Hosted by African Community Housing & Development (ACHD), the Delridge Farmers Market is a celebration of culture, community, and culinary creativity. As one of Seattle’s most culturally diverse markets, it offers a platform where local entrepreneurs with global perspectives share foods and goods that reflect the rich tapestry of our city’s diversity.
What’s Fresh This Season?
Expect a blend of global flavors and handmade crafts at the Delridge Farmers Market — from Afella Jollof’s authentic Senegambian dishes like jollof rice and goat dibi to Queen Sugar Baking Company’s irresistible Southern comfort treats. This season, the market proudly welcomes two new regenerative farms to its roster: Coyote Run Farms of Woodinville and Bahati Farm of Kent, expanding access to fresh, locally grown produce. But the Delridge Farmers Market is about more than just good food and handmade goods — it’s a hub for holistic community care. Each market serves as a one-stop shop for health and wellness needs, offering free services for the public like acupuncture, massage, or vaccinations, along with essential basic needs like diapers and dental hygiene kits to support neighbors’ well-being. Here, shopping local isn’t just a transaction — it’s a way to uplift the entire community.
Food Access for All
The Delridge Farmers Market is dedicated to making fresh, culturally relevant food accessible to the community. To support this mission, the market offers unlimited SNAP-EBT Market Match, Fresh Bucks, and WIC and Senior FMNP benefits. In addition, every youth under 18 receives a free $5 ACHD Youth Bucks voucher, helping them build healthy spending habits from an early age.The Delridge Farmers Market proudly sources local produce from its farmer vendors to distribute free of charge, giving away more than 50 bags of high-quality vegetables at each market. To further support farmers and reduce food waste, the market also purchases unsold produce at the end of the day, ensuring guaranteed sales for vendors. This produce is then donated to local community organizations or brought back to ACHD’s offices to be shared with clients in need.
More Than a Market
Beyond the stalls, the Delridge Farmers Market pulses with life — serving as a hub where community connections thrive. Organizations like Pongo Poetry Project and Art is Not a Privilege set up alongside vendors, offering engaging youth activities and facilitating deeper connections at each market day. Nonprofits collaborate to share program information, highlight local initiatives, and provide engaging activities that foster a sense of belonging. The market is more than a place to shop — it’s where stories are shared, friendships are formed, and the community truly comes alive.

WDGT Forest Restoration Celebration
Join the West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails (wdgtrails.org) for a gathering and hike to celebrate the work Nature Consortium started nearly 30 years ago to restore the West Duwamish Greenbelt.
In 1998, Nancy Whitlock founded the Nature Consortium which merged into Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association in 2016. They created trails, removed invasive species, and replaced them with native flora and fauna, as well as providing environmentally focused arts education to West Seattle youth. For more information about Nature Consortium, see DNDA — Nature Consortium.
We will begin with mingling and some light refreshments with Nancy and others who have been restoring the greenbelt. The hike will visit several of the restoration sites so we can observe and celebrate how the greenbelt has survived and thrived. We will meet at 11 am on Saturday, August 16 at the Arboretum at the north end of South Seattle College, 6000 16th Ave SW. The hike will begin at 11:30 am.
The Ridge to River Coalition (R2RDuwamish.org) will also be in attendance. They are working on creating a vision and long-term plan to connect communities and restore the West Duwamish Greenbelt. They want to hear from you about what you love about the greenbelt and what concerns you have. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the greenbelt and to share your thoughts and ideas to help shape the future of the greenbelt.
The usual third Saturday 9:30 am guided hike with the West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails group will also be happening and starting from the Arboretum and finishing in time for the refreshments and mingling at 11 am.
The West Seattle Tool Library is open at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center space (east side of main building).

The Westside Interfaith Network (WIN), our donations-drive partner, requests non-perishable food/personal hygiene items as well as men’s work clothing, socks, work boots, etc. Outdoor gear is always needed: blankets, tents, tarps, backpacks, etc.
Your donations are distributed through WIN’s “Welcome Table,” a weekly Saturday meal for unsheltered and low-income folks hosted in White Center. This distribution serves as a stopgap for many people relying on weekly visits to the food bank.
Can’t make it to the monthly drive? No problem! Just leave your donations in the barrel outside the church’s front entrance … at your convenience.
IF YOU WANT TO DONATE MORE THAN 3 BAGS, PLEASE CONTACT US FIRST TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS. We unfortunately don’t have the storage space or staff to accommodate large donations between drives.
Many of the folks who receive your donations are unsheltered. Please do NOT leave inappropriate household items that aren’t requested.
Deepest gratitude to our community for your generous support of our neighbors in need.
