Something whimsical is about to pop up around West Seattle. You just might stumble across it.
Potterings is once again joining the global art phenomenon Game of Shrooms with a playful, community-powered twist. 25 one-of-a-kind ceramic mushrooms, handcrafted by Potterings co-op members, will be hidden throughout the neighborhood and waiting to be discovered and taken home.
Part treasure hunt, part art drop, and all about joy, Game of Shrooms invites artists around the world to hide mushroom-themed creations in public places, then share clues online for adventurous finders. No tickets, no cost. Just curiosity and a little luck.
“We love the idea of art surprising people in their everyday lives,” said the Potterings team. “These mushrooms are made with care, personality, and a bit of mischief. Finding one should feel like a tiny moment of magic.”
How to Play
Follow Potterings on social media for clue drops starting on Saturday, June 13
Clues will be dropped at 8AM, 11AM and 1PM
Head out into West Seattle to explore
Keep your eyes peeled. These mushrooms could be anywhere
If you find one, it is yours to keep, tag Potterings with your find and be sure to email us when you find your ‘fun’gus treasure
Please take only one so more people can join the fun. This is more than hiding art. It is about sharing it. Each mushroom represents a different artist from the Potterings co-op, turning the streets, parks, and corners of West Seattle into a living gallery for a day.
It is a reminder that art does not have to live on a shelf or behind glass. Sometimes, it is tucked behind a tree, waiting to be found.

Over the last few years the community has come together to work on the land and learn; creating art and lasting bonds. TheHeron’s Nest serves community from ALL of Seattle’s neighborhoods. People come to learn and volunteer in the urban forest, the urban gardens and join in on open arts nights. Community has made Heron’s Nest what it is today and Duwamish Tribal Services is very excited to host an event that will be able to celebrate this important milestone with them – the gifting of their ancestral land from Shared Spaces Foundation.
Seattle’s First People: The Duwamish Tribe – the People of the Inside, dxwdəwʔabš – have been in the Seattle/Greater King County area since time immemorial. Their stories, such as “North Wind, South Wind,” tell of the last Ice Age, and an Ice Weir breaking over the Duwamish River. The Duwamish were the first signatories on the Treaty of Point Elliott in 1855, signed by Chief Si’ahl, who was chief of the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. Despite this, they continue to fight for Federal recognition for their treaty rights to be honored.

A SCREAMING LIFE
Into the Superunknown
with Soundgarden and BeyondKIM THAYIL
with Adem TepedelenWilliam Morrow | Hardcover | June 9, 2026 | $32.00
In A SCREAMING LIFE: Into the Superunknown with Soundgarden and Beyond (William Morrow; on sale 6/9/26), Kim Thayil, founding guitarist of Soundgarden, takes readers backstage to meet the band that boldly broke the traditional rules of rock, forging a new genre while selling over 30 million albums and building a fiercely loyal fanbase across the globe. Sharing a deeply personal look at Soundgarden’s remarkable evolution, Kim chronicles the entire ride, from the band’s early days navigating the gritty Seattle grunge scene to their revered status today as rock icons and members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Full of fresh insights, A SCREAMING LIFE reveals new details including:
• How the values instilled in Kim growing up in the progressive Chicago suburb of Park
Forest, one of the U.S.’s first intentionally racially integrated post-WWII communities,
profoundly influenced him and remain with him to this day
• A childhood trip to India to visit relatives introduced Kim to the psychedelic sounds of
the late-era Beatles, leaving a lasting impact on him musically
• The real story of how Soundgarden’s founding members—Kim, Hiro Yamamoto, and
Chris Cornell—first found each other
• The ways Soundgarden was shaped by the diverse backgrounds of its creators, and
how Kim’s Indian heritage, and Hiro’s Japanese ancestry, added unique dimensions to
the band’s identity, influencing not only their music but also their experiences in the industry
• Details of the immediate chemistry at the first Soundgarden practice in 1984
• The story of Soundgarden’s first attempt at recording an album which was eventually
scrapped and never released
• How Soundgarden led the way in the Seattle scene—at the forefront from the start,
before Nirvana and Pearl Jam—and was one of Sub Pop’s first and most pivotal bands
• The real reasons Soundgarden broke up in 1997
• Behind-the-scenes details of Soundgarden’s reunion in 2010, leading up to their final
tour in 2017 and a peek into the work on the upcoming final Soundgarden album
• Kim’s relationship with Chris Cornell, his friend and bandmate, before his untimely
death in 2017
ArtsWest and Seda Iranian Theatre Ensemble present WISH YOU WERE HERE by Sanaz Toossi directed by Naghmeh Samini. The cast features Ainaz Azarhoush, Newsha Farahani, Shereen Khatibloo, Mahshad Zareeizadeh, Parmida Ziaei and Azadeh Zanjani. WISH YOU WERE HERE performs at ArtsWest from June 11 – July 5, 2026. Tickets are available online at artswest.org or by phone at (206) 938.0963.
It’s 1978 and protests are breaking out all across Iran, encroaching on a suburb where a tight-knit circle of girlfriends plans weddings, trades dirty jokes, and tries to hang onto a sense of normalcy. But as the revolution escalates, each woman is forced to join the wave of emigration or face an equally uncertain future at home. With breathtaking humanity and cutting wit, WISH YOU WERE HERE chronicles a decade of life during war, as best friends forever become friends long lost, scattered and searching for home.
WISH YOU WERE HERE marks the second co-production between ArtsWest and Seda Iranian Theatre Ensemble. In 2024, the two companies produced Sanaz Toossi’s Pulitzer Prize winning ENGLISH. An audience favorite, ENGLISH played to sold out houses throughout its run. WISH YOU WERE HERE delivers the quick-witted, fast paced comedic dialogue Toossi is known for and packs an emotional punch. While the play is set during the Iranian Revolution, spanning the years of 1978 to 1991, the playwright focuses the spotlight on a tightknit group of female friends and the universal way the bonds between our chosen family bend, break, evolve, and help us endure life’s toughest moments.
“Speaking about the Iranian people’s resistance always excites me, and this story is about how friendship, dancing, singing, sisterhood and loving one another become ways for people to survive during difficult political and social times in Iran,” remarks Director Naghmeh Samini, “It is a peaceful form of resistance: protecting the private sphere and keeping it joyful and alive while the public space is invaded by war, fear, and social disorder. This play gives me the chance to show how culture can be more powerful than war, violence, and oppression, and how friendship continues to resist across time. To me, true friendship is like a fossil: something that remains, endures, and carries memory even after everything else has changed.”
WISH YOU WERE HERE is the final production of ArtsWest’s 2025-2026 Season titled Between Us. The season features five bold contemporary plays that explore the invisible threads that bind us — the responsibilities we bear for one another, the debts of care we carry, and the lifelines we extend in moments of crisis. WISH YOU WERE HERE explores the complexity of lifelong friendships, and what we owe to our chosen family.

Grief Support Groups
Grief groups are brave and safe spaces where bereaved people can share their stories and speak their loved one’s name without fear of getting advice, platitudes, or being shut out, no matter how long it’s been since their loved one’s passing. Every participant has dedicated time to speak about whatever they’d like, without judgment or interruption. Talking about our deceased loved ones in a supportive environment helps us remember them fully and helps us learn to carry the weight of their loss a little more gently.
These are ongoing, drop-in groups, but space is limited. Because of the sensitive nature of traumatic loss, the Thursday group is open only for those who are traumatic loss survivors. Learn more and register at listeningtogrief.com/groups. Contact Tamara at tamara@listeningtogrief.com with questions.
Mondays: 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm at Mama Be Well Healing Studio
Thursdays: 10 am – 11:30 am, same location, starting 6/4/26$32/session. 4 sessions for $102 (use within 6 weeks). Discounts are available for those who could otherwise not afford to attend.
Organizer Chris was inspired by a group he encountered during an extended stay in Mexico, “a weekly intercambio, or exchange, where Mexicans wishing to learn English and immigrants and tourists wishing to learn Spanish could practice speaking in a casual atmosphere in a cafe.” Upon return, he formed one, and now it meets twice weekly:
We began meeting on Wednesday nights upstairs at Mission Cantina about two months ago. Mission has truly made us feel at home and we regularly have between 5-15 attendees. One of our members started up a Monday night group upstairs at Future Primitive Brewing in White Center that is growing weekly. Other members have stepped up to be admins or to provide graphics.
We are a welcoming group wherever you are on your Spanish journey. Beginners get a chance to practice speaking with others. Intermediate speakers can learn with others. And more fluent speakers have enjoyed the chance to be able to speak Spanish with others. It has been impressive to see the patient good hearted people attending build a real sense of community.
We meet from 6:30-8:30 on Monday nights upstairs at Future Primitive Brewing at 9832 14th Ave SW in White Center. Farm Boy is closed that night, but you can bring in food from any place in White Center. The space is excellent for conversation.
We also meet from 6:30-8:30 on Wednesday nights upstairs at Mission Cantina at 2325 California Ave SW. You order your food or drink at the bar and they will bring it up to you.
If you are interested in joining us, please come! The only structure involved is to try and speak as much Spanish as you can. No RSVP is necessary and it is okay to arrive late if you need to. Gracias a todos!

With over 15 years of experience in the Seattle restaurant scene, you’ve likely been served or have pulled a shift with our friend Cara. Having graced the wells and bar rails of Westy, Fireside, Nook and the Book Store Bar. Cara is no stranger to the strange, yet loyal bar patrons of Pioneer Square, West Seattle, and Burien.
Having recently decided to be at the helm as the next loving caretakers of The Nook in the Admiral district, Cara and husband Poncho, certainly were not expecting life’s next curveball.
Three weeks after getting what should have been a routine torn-ACL surgery in February, a blood clot traveled to Cara’s lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism and cardiac arrest. Luckily Poncho was there and acted quickly to get her to Harborview. Cara was in the ICU for approx. a month and a half. While we are happy to report that Cara pulled through and is recovering at home, the after-care required will be extensive. And here’s how you can help:
We are raising funds for Cara’s after-care so Poncho can breathe a little bit easier and stay home to be a caregiver for Cara and their beloved dog Egon. These funds will go directly to Cara and Poncho to help alleviate the financially stress of such a traumatic and unexpected event.

FreeFormed in 2025, Chewing Gum brings a new generation’s perspective to the Pacific Northwest’s tradition of loud guitars, emotional songwriting, and high-energy live performance. Drawing inspiration from bands such as Hole, Alice In Chains, Veruca Salt, and other influential alternative rock artists, the band combines grunge, hard rock, and melodic hooks into a sound that feels both nostalgic and contemporary.
The band’s lineup features Maddie Meharry (vocals), Olivia St. Germain (guitar), Lily Holgate (bass), and Maya Woods (drums).
In an era dominated by streaming, Chewing Gum and The Big Dark Records are taking a
physical-first approach to the EP release. While their debut single “Possum” will be available on streaming platforms beginning June 6, the full EP will initially be released on CD only and available directly through the band and local record stores before being distributed to streaming services at a later date. The band will celebrate the release with a CD release show at Easy Street Records in West Seattle on June 18, 2026.

Weekend starts early with DJs at Revelry Room.

Admiral District History Walking Tour
3rd Saturdays June-Sept, 10:00-12:00 pm (July tour moved to Sat, 7/25/26)
45th Ave SW and Seattle Street
The Duwamish Peninsula has been home to Coast Salish peoples at least as far back as the retreat of the last glacier 14,00 years ago. Despite the arrival of the colonial landing party, AKA the Denny Party, on Alki in 1851, the peninsula saw only scattered settlements in subsequent decades. In the late 19th century, European American settlers platted what is now the Admiral District.
Learn about the people who have lived along Duwamish head and Admiral district, attempts to erase Coast Salish people from residing here, and the annexation of “West Seattle” to the larger city in 1907. Stops include the Admiral Viewpoint Story Pole, Hainsworth House, the Benbow Room, West Seattle Library, the Admiral Theater, West Seattle High School, and the Sixth Church of Christ (home to the Washington Black Legacy Institute and the Seattle Griot Project).
End your tour with the Washington Black Legacy Institute and learn about their work preserving Seattle’s Black History.
The tour begins at Belvedere Park at the corner of 37th Ave and Admiral Way. Please consider parking in the neighborhood as parking at Belvedere Park is limited. Your tour ends at the Sanctuary at Admiral, known as the Sixth Church of Christ, which is about a ½ mile from your starting point.
Tours are offered every 3rd Saturday at 10:00 am and run until 12:00 pm. They include one and a half miles of walking and involve some elevation and disrupted walking paths.
To learn more and register for a walking tour, please visit: loghousemuseum.org

Priorities change monthly to meet special and seasonal needs — so please check our website for updates.
The Westside Interfaith Network (WIN), our donations-drive partner, requests non-perishable food/personal hygiene items as well as men’s work clothing, socks, work boots, etc. Outdoor gear is always needed: blankets, tents, tarps, backpacks, etc.
Your donations are distributed through WIN’s “Welcome Table,” a weekly Saturday meal for unsheltered and low-income folks hosted in White Center. This distribution serves as a stopgap for many people relying on weekly visits to the food bank.
Can’t make it to the monthly drive? No problem! Just leave your donations in the barrel outside the church’s front entrance … at your convenience.
IF YOU WANT TO DONATE MORE THAN 3 BAGS, PLEASE CONTACT US FIRST TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS. We unfortunately don’t have the storage space or staff to accommodate large donations between drives.
Many of the folks who receive your donations are unsheltered. Please do NOT leave inappropriate household items that aren’t requested.
Deepest gratitude to our community for your generous support of our neighbors in need.
