West Seattle, Washington
27 Wednesday
(Clickable online map of sales is here … printable/downloadable map is here) … nonprofit/benefit/school sales listed here)
More than 500 sales are happening around West Seattle – and a bit beyond – as West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024 gets going! We started off by taking our own advice: At the very least, if you’re not having a sale today, walk to the nearest one! So our photo above shows your hosts Mandy and Robert at Sale #452 (8420 California SW) in Upper Fauntleroy. We’ll be roaming, and adding photos that sellers and shoppers send; find the sales all mapped here (click on any item in the list on the right side of the page, or any marker, to open its infobubble. The printable/downloadable guide is linked on that page too. Official sale hours are now through 3 pm. … A different style of furniture at Sale #64 (2932 Walnut), which texted this photo:
If you’re sending a photo, please be sure to include the sale #; thank you! … Plant sales are always a hot ticket on WSCGSD. This photo is from Julie & Steve at Sale #420 (7558 44th Ave SW), who promise, “Lots of plants, including natives!”
You’ll be singing “Jingle Bells” at Sale #291 (5415 35th SW) – Katie sent pics of tables at her sale including this one with holiday décor:
9:49 AM: This might be the only sale with a sale – Sale #214, “Crazy Bob’s on (3243) 56th Ave SW, west of Schmitz Park, has hoisted the sail on the sale. We’ve got a boat load of kites. Literally.”
In Morgan Junction, <strong>Thunder Road Guitars (Sale #411, 6400 California SW, also a WSB sponsor) throws a huge WSCGSD sale every year – our photographer shows us the line out the door:
This year’s list of participating businesses is here … Toward the south end of the map, Sale #507 (10750 18th SW, White Center) is bustling:
Sale #415 sent the next pic – that’s Scout Troop 284’s benefit bake sale at Fauntleroy Way and Holly Place:

Two benefit sales are next to each other – at 3000 California SW, West Seattle High School‘s Care Coordinator Stacy Fernandez is hosting Sale #189 for the program she leads:
And at 3050 California SW (St. John the Baptist lot), the WSHS Volleyball Team – fresh off their first trip to state in 40+ years – is raising money at Sale #221:
The next photo is from Tim at Sale #510 (10819 34th SW), who says it includes one big item that wasn’t in his listing: “Everything in the pic is for sale. Even the 1965 Ford Thunderbird!”
11:07 AM: If you’re looking to hit multiple sales in one stop, the map can point you at a variety of opportunities. We found multiple sellers at California/Raymond (including Sales #390 and #401) – sellers include local entrepreneurs Justin (Sound & Fog) and James (Filigree & Shadow, WSB sponsor):
And sisters Michele and Debby (who came down from Victoria to help out):
Just in from Sale #11 (8115 12th Ave SW) – Charlotte the corgi! whose people note, “we have women’s clothing, dog stuff, kitchen gadgets, lots of decor, holiday decorations and more!! Almost everything priced 25-50¢!!”

Need glassware, decanters, corkscrews? Lauren says Sale #468 (4408 SW Rose) has all that:
1:03 PM: Two-thirds of the way into this year’s WSCGSD, still lots of fun stuff happening out there. Kenyon Hall (7904 35th SW, Sale #351) is hosting what they’re hoping will be an annual record show and sale to benefit the historic venue:
You can listen to records while you’re there, thanks to DJ performances – here’s DJ Ricci:
Ready to grow? This year’s Sale #1, Wanderlust Nursery at 7527 19th SW, is a mail-order nursery not usually open to the public, but for WSCGSD they are – until 5 pm: “We have plants for all interests: natives and citrus, fruiting and herbs, trees to groundcovers, indoor or shade! Gift your loved ones some handmade soap, nuts for woodcarvers and crafts, jewelry or trinkets.”
From Julie at Sale #111 (4845 48th SW): “We still have tons of stuff in Seaview on 48th! Same with our neighbors on 47th and 46th. Come by and say Hi!”

Need a couch? Sale #2 (1264 SW Othello) sent the pic: “We’ve still got lots of great stuff! House plants, couch, drums, etc., etc.”
2:07 PM: Final official hour of WSCGSD. Our most recent stop was Sale #295 (8427 30th Ave SW), a multi-household fundraiser for the West Seattle Timebank:
If you’re on the north end of the peninsula, an incentive from Sale #82 at 4220 SW Hill: “Free water and snacks for anyone who stops by! Make us an offer.”
Back in the south, Sale #326 at 9331 32nd SW is laden with ceramics and glassware:
Sent from Sale #372 (7153 35th SW), which reports: “We have men and women’s clothing, luggage, gaming peripherals, and a free tire!”
Some sales might be in the mood for end-of-day deals. Robert at Sale #135 (3434 48th Ave SW, the only sale with a haiku-style listing) emailed to say, “Having a great day! Lots of items (except tools) will be 1/2 price after 1 pm!”
Again, the map is here … some sales are staying open past 3 pm, but otherwise, that’s when the symbolic closing bell of WSCGSD sounds.
3:01 PM: Thanks to everyone who participated by selling, shopping, browsing! If you’re not ready to stop shopping yet, five sales’ listings say they’re open until 4 pm – 306, 396, 406, 448, and 477 – and five say they’re open until 5 pm: 1, 198, 289, 314, and 483.
Hey, Sale #274! Thanks for putting up the “official sale” sign (it’s a template we email to sellers so they can use it if you want to)! Our photographer noticed it while en route to a story he’s covering right now. Perfect timing for this final West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day Eve reminder that we are now less than 14 hours away from 500+ sales of all sizes, all over the peninsula, as mapped here. The map page is where you’ll find other updates, such as last-minute cancellations (which are noted in the online-map list, but not the printable version, so if you’re using that to plan your day, please check the numbers on the cancellation list) plus links to our previews this past week with some mini-lists of sales. If you haven’t seen the map of all 500+ sales yet, find it here (that’s also where to get the link to the downloadable/printable version). Find the printable guide here (PDF) with all 500+ listings. Official sale hours Saturday are 9 am-3 pm; some are starting earlier and/or ending later, and that’ll be in their listing (please also heed the plea “No earlybirds” except for the few sales that expressly say they’re welcoming early visitors). More previews to come!

If you haven’t already seen it, we want to let you know that we published the map for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day early this morning, as promised! The interactive online map is here; the printable guide (with all 500+ sale listings, PDF, 32 pages) is here. The sales cover the peninsula and even stretch a bit beyond – this year we have a seller in South Park. Over the next week, we’ll publish previews and updates, including some mini-lists. One behind-the-scenes note – each year we sort the list by zip codes, low to high one year, high to low the next – last year was high to low (meaning the southernmost zip code, 98146, was atop that list) so this year the numbering starts with the 98106 sales. The map page explains how to search if you want to find which listings have a certain type of item you’re seeking, like “camping” or “toys.” West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day is one week from today – 9 am-3 pm Saturday, May 11 – second Saturday in May every year (except for the pandemic hiatus) since 2005, coordinated by us here at WSB since 2008. More previews ahead!
The map for this year’s West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day (Saturday, May 11) is almost ready! We’re expecting to publish the map, plus the link to the printable guide, on Saturday morning (5/4) as promised (though formatting more than 500 entries has taken extra time!). Starting Saturday morning, by 9 am, look for the link here on WSB and at westseattlegaragesale.com. If you have seen a map anywhere else before then, it’s NOT this year’s map and should be clearly marked with whatever year it’s from.
Two reminders from our last update:
-If you have a few things to sell but nowhere to sell them, two registered WSCGSD sites have offered spaces for small sellers – Hotwire Coffee and West Seattle Eagles. We don’t know the status of whether they’ve maxed out signups or not, so please check directly with them.
-If your nonprofit is interested in post-Garage Sale Day donations of certain kinds of items, please let us know ASAP so we can list it on that particular page of our WSCGSD site.
Official WSCGSD hours on Saturday, May 11, are 9 am to 3 pm, but some sellers will start earlier and/or end later, while at least 10 sellers are adding extra days – all that info will be in their listings, on the map and in the guide. And watch here for previews starting this Saturday, especially mini-lists we usually make of which sale numbers are offering certain popular items (toys, tools, etc.).
We’re in the throes of mapmaking for this year’s West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day, with a record number of sales registered – more than 520! A couple notes:
-If you have just a few things to sell and nowhere to sell them, there are two registered WSCGSD sites to check with about space – Hotwire Coffee and West Seattle Eagles
-If your nonprofit is interested in post-Garage Sale Day donations of particular kinds of items, please let us know ASAP so we can include it on that particular page of our WSCGSD site
-As previously noted, the map and printable guide to all 520+ sales will be available this Saturday – one week before WSCGSD – look for the link here on WSB and at westseattlegaragesale.com
Official WSCGSD hours on Saturday, May 11, are 9 am to 3 pm, but some sellers will start earlier and/or end later, while at least 10 are adding extra days – all that info will be in their listings, on the map and in the guide. More updates ahead!
Two weeks from tomorrow, on Saturday, May 11, West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day will be nothing short of amazing. Registration is closed as of 12 hours ago (sorry, no way to sneak in late signups this year, the database is locked down) and we have 525 sales registered – the most ever, by far! We’re almost done reviewing the registrations, and compiling a list of highlights (one sale, for example, promises “Grandpa’s mystery novels that he wants someone to read” while another has “So many wool shirts!” and another says it’ll be a “plumber’s dream,” and there are sellers with gear for a wide range of pastimes, from sports to camping to fishing to kayaking to skiing and … well, watch for the previews). So what happens now? We’re working on the map and printable guide so they’ll be ready for perusal one week before WSCGSD, so look for the links here and at westseattlegaragesale.com on Saturday, May 4. If you’re a seller, tell your friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. that West Seattle is the place to be on May 11. Official WSCGSD hours are 9 am to 3 pm, but some sellers are opening earlier and/or closing later, while some are adding extra days – all that will be in the guide. Wondering about the point of all this? One big day of person-to-person recycling, where you get to meet neighbors and new friends, in the community-building spirit of the nonprofit that founded WSCGSD in 2005 (turning it over to WSB in 2008). So as we always say … stand by for updates!
Last call to register a sale for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024 on Saturday, May 11! One year short of its 20th anniversary (the first WSCGSD was in 2005), West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day will be bigger than ever this year, with more than 450 sales registered. We’ve read through 400 of those registrations so far and the variety is impressive to say the least! Descriptions range from “museum-quality dumpster finds” to “kitschy treasure-hunting vibe” … there’s a “kitchenware-palooza,” “teen-curated clothes/shoes,” businesses with Garage Sale Day deals … two sales promising DJs … The map and guide will be ready a week in advance so you can browse it all (or just look for the sales near you). Registration ends at 11:30 pm tonight, so if your sale isn’t signed up yet, don’t wait another minute … go here to register!
With two days of registration remaining, West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024 on Saturday, May 11, is already set to be the biggest yet – 410+ sales signed up as of tonight! From individual houses, townhouses, and apartments, to block/building sales, to business sales, it’s an lively list, and we’ve only read through the first 300 signups so far. Among those signups is Hotwire Coffee (4410 California SW), which is again offering parking-lot spots to small sellers who don’t have their own spaces – go to hotwirecoffee.com to see if they’re still signing up people for spaces. Otherwise, if you are planning to be part of West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day (an annual tradition on the second Saturday of May since 2005, coordinated by WSB since 2008), be sure to register by 11:30 pm this Thursday, April 25 – that’s when we have to start work on the map and guide, so they’ll be available a week in advance for shoppers to start planning! Ready to register? Got your 20-word sale listing? Here’s where to start!
“We’re downsizing to a motor home to travel the country, so everything must go!” one West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024 seller explains. Another has clearly racked up some miles already, offering “Odd treasures from travels.” Yet another promises “no broken electric knives or Tupperware without lids here.” And another seller declares, “I am famous for my garage sales.” Lots of reasons, lots of promises, lots of merchandise in the 350+ sales listings we’ve received after three weeks of registration for WSCGSD, which is happening Saturday, May 11, 9 am-3 pm, all over West Seattle (and a bit beyond). If you plan to be a seller but haven’t registered yet, you have four more days – Thursday night (April 25) at 11:30 pm, we close the list so we can get busy making the map and guide, which will be ready a week before WSCGSD so shoppers can preview who has what and where. Maybe you’re looking for something specific, or maybe you just want to see who’s hosting a sale in your neighborhood so you can walk over to look. And if you’re one of those not-registered-yet-but-ready sellers, just go here!
If you’re going to join in the region’s largest community garage-sale day this year – but you’re not registered yet – hurry! The deadline is one week away, 11:30 pm next Thursday (April 25)! West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day just might be the biggest yet – 300+ sales are signed up already, and that’s 25 percent more than at this point last year. Sale day is Saturday, May 11 (always the second Saturday in May), 9 am-3 pm (some start earlier, some end later, some even add extra days – be sure info like that is in your listing when you register). We haven’t been through all the listings yet but we already have a pile of notes about what people are selling and how they’re describing their sales (one seller simply declares, “It’s lit”) – fun stuff, practical stuff, old stuff, new stuff, handmade stuff, designer stuff, big stuff, little stuff, we could go on … that’s why we make the map and guide available a week in advance, so you can check out the listings and see who’s selling something you might want. (Or even if you’re not planning on major shopping, see who’s having a sale near you and walk over to say hi.) If you’re selling but not yet registered – here’s the form!
Quick update before we move on with the rest of what’s looking to be a busy news day: We are now 26 days from this year’s West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day, coordinated by WSB, on Saturday, May 11. Sale registration continues for 10 more days, until Thursday, April 25. We’re now up to 250 sales signed up for spots on the map (which will be available, along with the printable guide of listings, one week before WSCGSD). We’ve reviewed many of the listings already and are making notes for promotional mentions – along with the WSCGSD staples of clothes, toys, books, furniture, etc., we have sellers with coffee equipment, beer-brewing equipment, motorcycle gear, roller skates and roller-derby gear, camping gear … and, as some sellers promise, “much, much more!” Ready to register your sale? Go here!
Saturday, May 11, is this year’s West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day – coordinated by WSB – so we are exactly one month away! Another date to note if you are planning on having a sale – registration, which opened last week, will continue for two more weeks, until April 25. Almost 200 sales are already registered – in every West Seattle neighborhood, offering an amazing array of items … and sales pitches, like “Come say hi to our cute dog,” “We are fun to hang out with,” “Two storage units worth of stuff,” “Everything is $1,” and most curiosity-piquing, “Ephemera, flotsam, forgotten dreams.” The listings are all in the printable guide as well as attached to their respective spots on the map, and that will be ready one week in advance of WSCGSD (which runs 9 am-3 pm May 11, though some choose to start early and/or end later). We’re now in the second week of registration for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024, and 180+ sales are now on the list for Saturday, May 11, one big day of shopping and selling, from Alki to The Arroyos, Pigeon Point to Brace Point, North Admiral to South Delridge, Sunrise Heights to Arbor Heights, and just about every neighborhood inbetween. Most are individual sales but there are also block sales, business sales, and fundraiser sales – wide variety of sellers and merchandise. Registration still has two-plus weeks to go but don’t wait too long – once the deadline (which we’ll set soon) passes, we have to lock down and get busy with the map and guide so that they can be available a week in advance (on May 4). So if you’re ready to register now (with your 20-word sale listing ready to go too), here’s the link!
After six days of registration, we have more than 160 sales on the list for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024 – one day of selling and shopping all over the peninsula, on Saturday, May 11, 9 am-3 pm. Whatever you’re looking for, somebody will probably be selling it – we’ve been browsing the sale descriptions, and making note of some unique items. One example: a “large pristine fake Christmas tree.” Another seller is offering an “elevated dog-wash tub.” Multiple sellers are promising plants, just in time for the heart of gardening season. Love art? Pottery, glass, woodwork … and this is just part of it. Are you thinking about having a sale, but haven’t registered yet? You still have two and a half weeks to decide – but then we’ll have to close registration so we can make and circulate the map and list (available one week before WSCGSD). If you’re ready now (including the verbiage for your 20-word sale listing), here’s where to go!
After three and a half days of registration, more than 110 sales are signed up for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024. That means Saturday, May 11, is already guaranteed to be a busy day of what we describe as person-to-person recycling. A quick look through the registrations so far show the neighborhoods with sellers spanning the entire peninsula, from Alki to The Arroyos, Highland Park to Fauntleroy, South Delridge to Arbor Heights, Genesee Hill to Puget Ridge, and others along the way. Items offered for sale include the garage-sale classics – clothes, toys, books, housewares – but also home-improvement items, home decor, tools, pet gear, baby gear, art (including the legendary annual art-glass sale) … And as always, some sellers are offering tasty enticements to make it onto your must-visit list, from hot dogs to cookies to an Italian-soda bar. To review – WSCGSD is not one big sale, but rather a multitude of sales of all sizes, in hundreds of places around the peninsula, on one day. If you’re planning to host one of those sales, you have three more weeks to register – then we lock down the list so we can make the map and guide so it’s ready for shoppers’ advance review a week in advance. Ready to sign up your sale? Here’s where to go!
From North Admiral to Arbor Heights, Highland Park to Genesee Hill, 60 sales all over the peninsula are already in for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024, as we wrap up the first day of registration! In case you didn’t see the previous announcements – this year’s WSCGSD is Saturday, May 11 (second Saturday in May as always), official sale hours 9 am-3 pm, though you are welcome to start earlier and/or end later. Registration will continue for about three and a half weeks, so you have lots of time to decide if you want to be part of it; if you’re just planning to be a shopper – the sale map/guide, with sellers’ 20-word listings, will be available one week before sale day. If you’re ready to register, here’s where to go! (Any questions about WSCGSD, email us at westseattleblog@gmail.com.)
Saturday, May 11, 2024, is the 18th almost-annual West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day – and as of right now, registration is open!
This is one day with many sales of many sizes, all around the peninsula, open at least 9 am-3 pm on sale day (earlier and/or later if you want to, but that’s up to you). It’s not the only neighborhood sale day in Seattle, but it’s the biggest; the people who founded it in 2005 (three years before handing the baton to us at WSB) were particularly inspired by PhinneyWood Garage Sale Day in the north end. Registration for WSCGSD gets your sale onto the map and listings guide that are made available one week before sale day, which we promote regionally – we’ve heard of people who come from as far away as Eastern Washington!
If you’re planning a sale, here’s where to go to register – any time you’re ready (signups will continue for three and a half weeks; we’ll set the exact end date when we get closer). Same classifications and fees we’ve had for all the years we’ve been coordinating this. And before you register, be ready with your up-to-20-word sale listing – think about what you’re selling that’s popular and/or unusual, for example. Any questions, email westseattleblog@gmail.com or call/text our hotline at 206-293-6302. Updates to come (including any multi-seller sites that offer space for people who have small sales/no place to host a sale – if your venue is planning to do that, please tell us ASAP)!
We are now just under six weeks away from this year’s West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day – hundreds of sales big and small on Saturday, May 11, 2024 (always the second Saturday in May). This year is the 18th WSCGSD (founded in 2005, with a two-year pandemic hiatus 2020-2021), and we here at WSB are coordinating it as we’ve done since taking over for its founders in 2008. We open registration early so everyone interested has plenty of time to get signed up, and tomorrow is when we plan to open it for this year – Monday, April 1. Time TBA – depends on the news flow of the day, but we’re hoping for noonish; when all is ready, you’ll see the announcement, and the registration link, here on WSB. No changes planned this year; official sale hours will be 9 am-3 pm, and if you plan to start earlier and/or end later, please say that in the description you submit on the sale-registration form. The description is both part of the clickable online map and the printable sale guide, so think of what you most want people to know, including any unusual item(s)! Registration will be open for about three and a half weeks; then we close it so we can get busy making the map and guide, which will be available one week before WSCGSD as always so prospective shoppers can plan.
