West Seattle, Washington
26 Tuesday
By this time next Monday night (April 1), registration will be open for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024 – hundreds of sales, all around the peninsula, 9 am-3 pm Saturday, May 11, always the second Saturday in May. It’s the biggest community garage-sale day in the region; we have coordinated it since 2008, three years after the first WSCGSD. It’s not one big sale but instead many sales large and small all over West Seattle, in yards and garages and courtyards and planting strips and community rooms and gyms and businesses and driveways and other settings. (Here’s our coverage of last year’s WSCGSD.) We create a map/guide to all the sales, available online (clickable and printable versions) a week in advance so shoppers can start planning. So again, this year’s dates – April 1 (next Monday), registration begins; May 4, map available; May 11, sale day!
Eight weeks from today, right about now, we’ll be wrapping up this year’s West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024 – and registration starts soon. WSCGSD will be on Saturday, May 11, this year – always the second Saturday in May, with registration opening April 1. Watch WSB that day for the announcement and link. If you’re new, WSCGSD – coordinated by WSB since 2008, three years after it began – is one day with many sales of all sizes, all over the peninsula, in garages and yards and schools and courtyards and community rooms and parking lots and businesses and driveways and … (Here’s WSB coverage of last year’s WSCGSD, with a sample.) We provide a map/guide to all the sales, available a week before WSCGSD so shoppers can start planning. To recap those dates to remember – Monday, April 1, registration begins; Saturday, May 11, sale day! Official hours are 9 am-3 pm; some sellers start earlier and some wrap up later.
A few more people have asked us about West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024 – so we’re stepping up the countdown. Today, we are exactly one month away from the start of registration. WSCGSD will be on Saturday, May 11, this year – always the second Saturday in May – and we open registration in early April. So on Monday, April 1, watch WSB for the announcement that registration has begun. If you’re new, WSCGSD – which we have coordinated since 2008, three years after it began – brings many sales large and small all over the peninsula, in garages and yards and courtyards and community rooms and schools and businesses and driveways and … (Here’s our coverage of last year’s WSCGSD.) We create a map/guide to all the sales, available a week in advance so you can start planning. So again, the dates to remember – April 1, registration begins; May 11, sale day!
We’re now exactly three months away from West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2024 – WSCGSD is always on the second Saturday in May, and that’s May 11 this year. WSCGSD is not one big sale, but many sales large and small all over the peninsula, in garages and yards and courtyards and community rooms and schools and businesses and driveways and … It’s the one annual event we coordinate, dating back to 2008 (three years after it was founded by a nonprofit in the spirit of increasing community connection). We’re planning to open registration for the official WSCGSD map on April 1, so if you’re thinking of having a sale, watch for that announcement. (Here’s our coverage of last year’s WSCGSD.)
We’ve already received questions about this year’s West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day – so here’s a quick “countdown” note: It’s now exactly four months away, second Saturday in May as always, and that’s May 11 this year. If you’re new, this isn’t one big sale, but rather sales large and small all over the peninsula, one of the first events of the spring/summer season. In the spirit of other community-wide sale days around the country, this one was founded by a now-defunct nonprofit in 2005, and we took over as coordinators starting in 2008. Registration to be on the official WSCGSD map will open in early April. (Here’s our coverage from last year.)

9:04 AM: If garage/yard sales are your jam, today’s your day. It’s the 17th almost-annual West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day, and the first year that more than 400 sales signed up. (As happens every year, a few have canceled – see the map page for updates on that.) At many stops, you’ll find more than what the sellers mentioned in their listing, like Sale #288 at 4000 54th SW, which sent the photo above – they’ve added a one-day pop-up jam sale! Here’s the online map; here’s the printable list; official sale hours are until 3 pm. … Into baseball? Bobbleheads? Sale #29 at 6313 48th SW is looking for you:
Need wheels? “From baby strider to adult, we got your bikes!” declared Sale #407, 5000 Puget Boulevard SW, with this pic:
Dozens of sales with toys and other kid stuff. At Sale 119, 6741 38th SW, you’ll find “American Girl stuff, power tools, toys, and lots more”:
Sale #220 says “We have shade and lemonade! Come see us at 4845 48th Avenue SW!”
We listed all the sales planning lemonade here.
10 AM: Hour 2 of WSCGSD! Just got word from one seller that a lost dog showed up at their sale. Remember, WSB has had the only all-West Seattle lost/found-pets page for 15+ years – email us if you find or lose a furry friend. Back to the sales … The Solstice P-Patch, Sale #32 at 7400 Fauntleroy Way SW (and a WSCGSD tradition), has a huge variety of plants including this big tree:
The Solstice sale is on our list of benefits/fundraiser sales … Here’s another benefit sale:
That photo is from Sale #89, 5902 41st SW, where proceeds are going to the Kitsap Humane Society … With the weather heating up, Sale #389 at 6517 Delridge Way SW has air conditioners for sale:
Treats abound around the map. BSA Troop 284, at Sale #65 – 6613 Holly Place SW – is raising money with a bake sale:
The Kenney, Sale #81 at 7125 Fauntleroy Way SW, also has a bake sale, and Sale #88 at 6041 California SW, the View On California apartment complex, has coconut-lime pies:
Also in Morgan Junction, what’s likely the biggest of the business sales on WSCGSD, every year, has people lined up outside and inside Thunder Road Guitars (WSB sponsor) at 6400 California SW:
TRG is Sale #22 on the map and offers a variety of one-day-only deals on WSCGSD, many previewed on Instagram. … Speaking of IG, we don’t usually use the “stories” feature but we have some rad helpers on WSCGSD who are posting highlights. … Overall it’s just a great day to be out in the sun, as Sale #181 at 7537 30th SW can attest – their description promised “free golden retriever attention” and here’s the proof:
11 AM: Hour 3! Just took a brief break from the desk and saw a family walking by, apparently out WSCGSDing on foot. One of the kids was asking, “Mommy, HOW MANY garage sales are there?” When we were that age, our grandma “Dee Dee” hauled us around on Saturdays, looking at what she fondly called “rubbish sales,” so we do this every year in her memory. Back to coverage: Another one of today’s benefit sales, #251 at 4006 52nd SW, is for the Rain City Ropeworks jump-ropers:
Go for the jump-rope demos as well as the shopping! As recently reported here, members of Rain City Ropeworks have made the national team. … Another WSCGSD vignette: We went over to get a pic of the Santa gear that Al was planning to sell at Sale #358, 3433 42nd SW, but he told us someone browsing the WSCGSD list had contacted him in advance and bought all his gear already! So we photographed him and granddaughter Izzy:
Sale #253, at California/Genesee, is always big:
This sale also includes Salon 08‘s benefit for the senior dogs helped by Old Dog Haven … Another benefit sale that happens every WSCGSD is the Delta Kappa Gamma fundraiser for women educators, Sale #55 at 8436 Fauntleroy Way SW:
There we found Jill and Nell:
Some areas of West Seattle are less sale-dense than others but you can still find somebody with a sale just about everywhere! In North Delridge, Brittany from Sale #375 reports, “Bikes, bunk beds, craft supplies, games – and shade! 4525 26th Ave SW”:
Official sale hours go till 3 pm so you still have plenty of time, even if just to walk over to the sale(s) nearest you and see what treasures await.
12:20 PM: We’re well into Hour 4! Speaking of treasures, lots of collectibles out there today. Sale #259 at 4723 SW Hudson is selling “vintage ’90s McDonald’s toys”!
Thirsty? Sale #34 at 9055 39th SW, benefiting the fight against breast cancer via the Susan G. Komen 3-Day, has cold water for a $1 donation, as well as other merchandise:
We have several sales in White Center/North Highline this year too – including Sale #20 at 10009 20th SW:
Also just out of the inbox, Cheryl writes, “Discover an irresistible treasure trove at Sale #111, located at 5046 48th Ave SW. Among our offerings are lightly used U-haul boxes, two lawnmowers, mirrors, a bookcase, high-quality packing blankets, a classic Standard bed frame, and a plethora of stylish dog products, including collars, leashes, and bandanas.” Here are some of those ‘stylish dog products”:
1 PM: Hour 5 is launched! Still catching up with some pics from this morning. Kelsey‘s at Sale #31, 5218 Erskine Way SW (behind the house), and had merchandise including wintry themes you might find cooling as the mercury rises:
We notice nice shady trees in Larry‘s yard at Sale #127, 6738 35th SW:
If you’re getting an error message with the online map, we’ve reported it to the software provider – the PDF list of sales is unaffected and that’s here. … If you haven’t taken a lunch break yet, in addition to West Seattle’s many fabulous restaurants, the Dick’s Drive-In truck is at Highland Park Corner Store (7789 Highland Park Way) until 2 pm:
While we were there, we checked on the nearest sale, #393 at 7761 Highland Park Way SW. Lots of stuff has already sold, they told us, but what remains includes this kitchenware:
From Mike at Sale #194, 9206 36th SW, who says, “World’s worst yard sale, but we’re selling stuff. VHS tapes a-plenty. Cuisinart for sale, too! Cheap!”
WSCGSD tends to segue into freebie sightings post-sale, but some are offering them as part of their sales too. Angela at Sale #184, 35th/Dawson, says, “We have a pretty Hickory Chair brand sofa we’d love to rehome. It needs some attention but is a pretty piece for someone who may want to do some refurbishing! FREE. We’ll be leaving it out after the garage sale, too, as long as the weather is nice!”
2:10 PM: Final official hour! Again, if you can’t access the online map, the software provider seems to be having a problem but our linear version of the sale list is just fine. Meantime, a beautiful pic from another WSCGSD tradition – glass art at Sale #200, 3241 47th SW:
We’ll add a list here of who planned to go beyond 3 pm, for shoppers who just don’t want to stop! So far:

Some years, as West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day approaches, we’ve been watching the forecast nervously, hoping the weather would stay dry, at least for that day. This year, there’s no nervousness needed – not only will Saturday’s weather be dry, it’ll be sunny and warm, a great day for person-to-person recycling, treasure-hunting, neighbor-meeting … So when you’re ready to browse the 400-sale map – if you haven’t already – you’ll find it here (that page also includes a link to the printable map, which you can search via browser find). We’re publishing some highlight lists in the days leading up to WSCGSD – Tuesday night we published the list of benefit/fundraiser sales; tonight, the other sizable sales (those that registered as block sales, and a few other highlights – note that a “block sale” may be everybody on the block selling together at just one house, so go first to the specific address listed):

Warm weather is returning and this weekend is currently expected to have summer-like weather – sunny, 80ish! That includes Saturday, which is this year’s West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day. On the second Saturday every May since 2005 – except for the pandemic years (2020 and 2021) – West Seattle becomes Western Washington’s garage/yard/etc. sale capital for a day. WSCGSD was launched in 2005; we at WSB have coordinated it since 2008. This year, more than 400 sales are registered for the first time, and you can preview the locations via the map/list, which we published this past Saturday – the online version here (be sure to use the plus/minus zooming to see all the sales in specific areas) and the printable list here. Official sale hours on Saturday (May 13) are 9 am-3 pm, but as you’ll see on the list, some sellers have chosen to add hours/days. Starting tonight, as we do each year, we’ll publish some lists – such as benefit sales, block sales, plant sales, art sales – as the countdown continues. (You can also search the map for keywords in sale descriptions – see those hints at the bottom of the map page.)
As promised, the map/list is ready one week in advance of the 17th almost-annual West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day on Saturday, May 13th. With more than 400 sellers registered for the first time, it’s an even-busier map than in years past. The online version is here, with viewing/searching tips beneath the map. The printable list of sales is here, 24 pages in PDF, with their numbers, addresses, and descriptions. The online map is best viewed on a laptop or desktop; each click of either the list at screen right or an individual sale marker will open a bubble with the description, so that’s the best way to browse if you’re just interested in sales near where you live, for example. Over the next week, we’ll be publishing preview lists and other updates, but for now, if you’re interested in getting an early start on planning where you’re going, that’s why we publish the list early. Official hours on sale day next Saturday are 9 am-3 pm; some sellers mention in their sale descriptions that they’re starting early and/or finishing late, and a few are adding days,
P.S. We alternate each year sorting the list by high to low zip codes, so last year’s numbering started in 98106, while this year starts in 98146 – Sale #1, for example, is the southernmost sale this year.)
We continue in the throes of mapmaking for the 17th almost-annual West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day on Saturday, May 13th. As announced in our previous update, this is the first time more than 400 sellers have registered! Each sale listing has a short description of highlights, and searching the database, along with many other things, we see 107 sales mentioning toys, 68 sales mentioning tools, 45 mentioning bikes and/or bike gear, 32 mentioning baby stuff, 28 mentioning antiques, 27 mentioning plants, 12 planning lemonade stands … You’ll be able to search the online map for any keyword that interests you. That version of the map, and the printable list, both numbered so that sellers can tell the world “hey, come see us at sale #xx,” will both be linked here and at westseattlegaragesale.com by this Saturday morning (May 6), so everyone has a week to plan. (If you miss the announcement when that’s all ready, just check our navigation bar/menu, as it’ll be linked there too until Sale Day is over.) Any questions, email our main mailbox – westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you! More previews to come …
The signups are over and mapmaking has begun for the 17th almost-annual West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day on Saturday, May 13th – for the first time, more than 400 sales are signed up, from North Admiral to North Delridge to North Shorewood and every west-of-the-Duwamish River neighborhood inbetween. If you are among those who registered, watch your emailbox for the next day or so because we’re reviewing all the listings right now and will be emailing you if we have a question. As promised, the map and sale list will be available, in both clickable and printable formats, one week before sale day, so look for that announcement here (it’ll be linked in our navigation bar/menu once available too) on Saturday, May 6. Any questions, please send to our main mailbox, westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!
The 17th almost-annual West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day is officially the biggest one ever – 375 sales registered as of moments ago. If you’re having a sale too but haven’t signed up yet, the clock is running out – registration closes at 11:30 pm tonight, after three and a half weeks. Then at 11:31 pm, we start work on organizing the map and list that will be available one week before the Saturday, May 13, sale day. If you’re NOT having a sale, set some time aside on May 13th to at least go say hi to your nearest neighbors who are – those are always our favorite WSCGSD vignettes – during the biggest person-to-person recycling day of the year. Here’s where to register!
Another quick reminder about West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day registration – it’s been open now for 3 1/2 weeks and closes tomorrow night (Thursday, April 27) at 11:30 pm. So far 330 sales are registered, all sizes, all neighborhoods, all kinds of stuff! Once registration ends, mapmaking begins, so that we can make the map and sale list available here on WSB and via westseattlegaragesale.com on May 6th, one week before sale day, which is Saturday, May 13th. (9 am-3 pm, though as you’ll see on the list, some are starting early, some are ending late, some are even adding extra days.) If you’re planning a WSCGSD sale but have procrastinated on signing up, hurry – 28 hours left! Here’s where to register.
Another quick update on West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day, always the second Saturday in May, which means this year it’s May 13th – 290 sales are now registered, and if you decide to have one too, you have three more days to sign up – registration closes at 11:30 pm Thursday (April 27), to give your WSCGSD coordinators here at WSB enough time to make the map and list so they’re available a week in advance. Sales are happening everywhere – Alki to Arbor Heights, Puget Ridge to South Delridge, as far south as Seola and North Shorewood, as far north as North Admiral. Sellers are promising new stuff, old stuff, name-brand stuff, cheap stuff, big stuff like furniture and appliances, small stuff like jewelry and Legos … The online map will be searchable as usual so if you’re looking for something like “toys” you can search for that term and bring up a list of the sales offering them, for example. So here again are the three key dates:
–APRIL 27: Last day to register a sale
–MAY 6: Map/list available
–MAY 13: Sale day!
Ready to register (be prepared with your up-to-20-words sale description)? Here’s the link!
Three weeks from today – Saturday, May 13th – the peninsula will be Garage/Yard Sale Capital of the World (well, at least the state – we’ve heard from somebody in Spokane who’s coming over to shop) as West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day arrives for another year. 260 sales are registered now, and if you plan to have one too, you have five more days to register to be on the map/list – registration closes at 11:30 pm Thursday, April 27, so we can get the map and list ready for circulation a week before WSCGSD.
So far 98116 is the zip code with the most registered sales, 103, followed by 66 in 98136 and 50 in 98126. The two zip codes that are only partly in West Seattle follow – 98106 (31) and 98146 (11). But that’s just a preliminary tally; we’re likely to see at least a few dozen more register by the deadline. As always, some sales are starting early and/or ending late – some are even adding days, Friday and/or Sunday – but the basic WSCGSD window is 9 am to 3 pm. So here are the three dates to remember:
–APRIL 27: Last day to register a sale
–MAY 6: Map/list available
–MAY 13: Sale day!
If you’re ready to register (have your up-to-20-words sale description ready, here’s where to tell us your plan!
Planning a sale on Saturday, May 13th, for West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day? If you’re not already registered, you have one more week – we close registration at 11:30 pm next Thursday, April 27th. WSCGSD is one big day of person-to-person recycling and neighbor-mingling, 9 am to 3 pm, though some sellers start earlier and/or end later. This will be the 17th almost-annual WSCGSD; we’ve coordinated it since the fourth year, 2008. As of right now, 239 sales are signed up, all sizes, all neighborhoods, all around the peninsula. Sale descriptions will be included with the (searchable) online and printable map/list versions, both available one week in advance, by Saturday, May 6th, here on WSB and at westseattlegaragesale.com. Sales will be numbered as always so sellers can invite friends, family, and co-workers to “sale #xx.” Ready to register? Here’s the link.

West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2023 is exactly one month away! Saturday, May 13th, is this year’s big day – always the second Saturday in May since WSCGSD’s inception in 2005 – and so far 180 sales are registered. As usual, participants are all around the peninsula – north-south from North Admiral to Seola Beach, east-west from Highland Park to Fauntleroy, In the listings we’ve checked so far, sellers are promising something for everyone – clothing, furniture, kitchenware, music gear, tools, even an outboard motor and swamp cooler – and that’s just what we’ve seen in the first 40 or so to sign up. A few sellers say they’ll be open Friday as well as Saturday. Basic WSCGSD hours are 9 am to 3 pm; you’re welcome to start earlier and/or end later – if you plan to do that, be sure to include it in your sale description on the registration form. Deadline to sign up to be on the map/list is 11 pm Thursday, April 27th (two weeks from tonight). When you’re ready to register, here’s where to do it!
One week ago, we opened registration for the 17th almost-annual West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day – 9 am-3 pm Saturday, May 13 (with some sales choosing to start earlier and/or end later). More than 140 sales are now signed up to be on the map/list, which will be available one week in advance. Registration will remain open until 11 pm Thursday, April 27th, and after that, the list will be locked down for mapmaking – so you still have two and a half weeks to decide if you want to have a sale. So far we haven’t heard from anyone planning a site with individual spaces for sellers who either don’t have much to sell or don’t have a place to do it, so if you’re thinking about that, please let us know as soon as you can, as we’re continuing to get inquiries. Meantime, you can register for your spot on the map/list by going here! Registering will bring a confirmation note from us as well as a PayPal receipt; if you don’t get one or both, please check your spam folder, and if you don’t find it, or have another problem/question, email us at westseattleblog@gmail.com. WSCGSD is the one event we coordinate every year, after taking it over starting in its fourth year, 2008.
