WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Masked confetti-gun-wielding attacker injures woman, and 3 other reports

In West Seattle Crime Watch:

WOMAN INJURED BY MASKED ATTACKER WITH CONFETTI GUN: Thanks to Kim for the tip on this and the photo. We didn’t make it to Westwood Village while this was unfolding but obtained the police report today. A 35-year-old man is in King County Jail today after being arrested Tuesday afternoon for investigation of assault. Police say he was wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and “soccer shin plate armor (plastic), with other various plastic armor plating underneath everyday clothing,” while walking on the east side of Westwood Village shooting people with a confetti gun. Seattle Fire checked one woman for minor injuries after she reported being hit in the eye. This was the suspect’s fourth booking in less than a year.

SIGNATURE SQUABBLE: Sorry to say, SPD tells us no report resulted from another Tuesday afternoon incident we briefly, and popularly, mentioned on Twitter, after hearing about it on the scanner:

The few lines in the SPD system say that a “petitioner” – it was not specified which campaign they were gathering for – was arguing with people, and the manager called police, who said the person could be “trespassed” (required to leave, and stay off the premises) if the situation persisted. Officers left and a while later, there was another call, but the manager called back and canceled before they arrived.

Two reader reports:

PLAGUED BY PACKAGE THEFTS: Kelli at Zippy Dogs in north Morgan Junction writes:

We are located over in the 6000 block on California Ave between Graham and Raymond streets. Our townhomes and businesses are having packages stolen on a very regular basis. The pictures show their faces, body type, build. White male, 20’s, heavy tattoos, he wears beanies and cap, sometimes has backpack. White female, 20’s, longish brown hair, she seems to be the lookout and he grabs packages. She helps carry the loot.

(Monday) they were carrying 3 bags stuff full of packages and a Rite Aid rolling basket loaded with their packages. These two yahoos have been caught stealing packages on our security cameras and (Monday) we followed them down California Ave while they walked to McDonald’s; unfortunately, the cops were shorthanded and busy and never made it to the scene for an hour and a half. They were long gone. They hang out at the Juneau Market (California and Juneau) and McDonald’s (California and Holly). They are very active, and walk up California Ave and nearby alleys, side streets and through a lot of townhome complexes that are easy targets especially if they have access to alleyways.

They have provided all their photos and videos to police, whose report number from Monday is 18-202147.

VANDALISM: Received via text:

My name is D and I was getting ready to work when I found my car, a Honda Fit, vandalized on my carport behind Pagliacci Pizza.

The gas door and lid were torn off, heavy scratches on the rear quarter panel and flattened tire.

There’s blood spots around the tire; the person might be hurt.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Seen any of this car prowl loot?

From Tim at West Seattle Runner (WSB sponsor), a request to look for “random items” taken in a car prowl last night, including one of sentimental value:

A partial list includes a collapsible plastic crate (black and grey) that had a few qt cans of paint, some books on running, a zippered clear bag that had a bunch of little things inside, including some replacement plug ends for extension cords, some maps, CDs, small little tools, and other misc. stuff, and a small 12v tire inflator. They took everything out of our center console, which ironically included a tiny book of the Constitution.

Also in the console was a few CDs, one of which was from our friends memorial. It was all of her favorite songs and had “Andrea” written on it. The Andrea CD is the only thing we really want back, the rest is all replaceable.

I assume that the thieves will dump most of this stuff somewhere since they can’t sell it for drugs, so we ask people to look out for a pile of these things. Keep whatever you find, but please let us know if you find the Andrea CD, we would really appreciate it.

UPDATE: 35th/Thistle crash, followed by search and arrest

(Added: Photo sent by Jason)

2:04 PM: Southbound 35th SW is blocked right now at SW Thistle after a crash reported to involve two cars, and police are looking for two people reported to have run/walked away from one of them. They were last seen westbound on Thistle, “possibly bleeding.”

2:07 PM: Now police are saying one person – all we’ve heard are that both were believed to be male – might have left NB on 35th, and the other might have been subsequently seen near 37th/Cloverdale.

2:15 PM: A K-9 officer is in the area and might be joining the search.

2:25 PM: Police have one person in custody a few blocks south of the crash scene. He was reported to have been hiding in a Honey Bucket.

2:57 PM: Crash scene is clear. Here’s where police found the man:

SFD was called to check on him for possible crash injuries.

10:53 PM: The suspect, 30, is in King County Jail, booked for investigation of hit-and-run. The jail register shows it’s his fourth booking in just under a year.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Police search in Fauntleroy

Thanks for the tips. The police response near the Fauntleroy ferry dock followed a report of a suspected prowler who took off running when confronted by a resident, officers told us at the scene. A 911 call and search ensued; a person believed to be the suspect was found and taken into custody, pending ID confirmation by the resident.

FOLLOWUP: No arrest yet in Alki Avenue murder

(Saturday night photo by WSB’s Christopher Boffoli)

On the second day after the murder along Alki Avenue SW, near Luna/Anchor Park [map], no arrest yet – and no new (public) information from Seattle Police. The victim was stabbed around 10 pm Saturday night and died at the scene. Along the Alki Trail, where his body remained for hours while investigators worked the scene, a memorial that started with a few flowers by Sunday evening grew today – including extensive tagging on the trail/sidewalk.

Police won’t say anything more than describing the investigation as “active and ongoing”; as noted in our Saturday night coverage, they don’t believe it was a random killing. It’s the second murder in West Seattle in less than a month, after the deadly shooting of 44-year-old Lorenzo Marr at West Seattle Stadium on May 8th, also still unsolved. The Alki victim’s name has yet to be released; police described him as in his mid-20s. If you have any information, you can call the SPD tip line at 206-233-5000 – or 911.

UPDATE: Man stabbed to death along Alki Avenue SW

(WSB photos by Christopher Boffoli)

10:12 PM: Police and fire are headed to Alki/Harbor for a report of a possible stabbing. More to come.

10:16 PM: Per scanner, police are closing Harbor to traffic NB where it turns into Alki.

10:19 PM: Victim has life-threatening wounds, also per scanner. Other routes to Alki might be closed because of the search – such as California Way and Bonair – so avoid the area.

10:40 PM: WSB’s Christopher Boffoli is at the scene and says the victim has died. This is the second homicide case in West Seattle in less than four weeks, since the deadly shooting at West Seattle Stadium on May 8th. Last year, there was one murder at Alki – we noted that May 23rd marked one year since 23-year-old Jordan D. Thomas was shot and killed at 62nd/Alki; that case remains unsolved.

10:53 PM: No arrest(s) reported so far. No clear description of the killer(s), either, but police are reported to be canvassing for surveillance video in the area as well as potential witnesses.

11:44 PM: After resolving a communications problem, we’re receiving images and information again from our crew at the scene. If you are having trouble placing where this happened, the victim is on the Alki Trail, just to the right of the right edge of the photo above; Christopher says it’s directly across the street from 1140 Alki SW. Also note, roads into the area remain closed.

12:05 AM: Christopher reports that homicide and CSI personnel continue arriving. He meantime is expecting a briefing soon from an SPD public-information officer who has arrived and is getting briefed.

12:35 AM: Christopher has just talked with SPD spokesperson Det. Patrick Michaud, who says the victim was in his mid-20s. Police do not believe this was a random attack. Nor do they have a description of suspect(s) or vehicle. Det. Michaud also confirms there is an additional crime scene at which they recovered a glove, and says police are interviewing witnesses and friends of the victim as well as reviewing surveillance and dash-cam footage from the area. If you have any information, you’re asked to call SPD’s homicide/assault tip line at 206-233-5000.

1:35 AM: Added above this line, Christopher’s video of what Det. Michaud told him at the scene.

SUNDAY NIGHT NOTE: No new information today. Sometime between this morning and evening, someone left a few flowers at the scene, the only hint of what happened last night:

We will be following up with police again tomorrow.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Hit-run driver leaves victim injured; white Subaru stolen on video; home burglarized

Three reader reports in West Seattle Crime Watch tonight:

HIT-RUN VICTIM HOPES YOU CAN HELP: From Laetitia:

I was a victim of a hit and run (Friday) on 35th and Willow, at 5:10 pm.

I was outside of my car, and was locking the door when a white Jeep hit me on the back, and knocked me down. Witnesses saw the driver stop, then leave the scene. Police was called and i was transported to the hospital. I now have 3 broken vertebraes, and a painful recovery ahead. Can you get the word out? Maybe someone can help find this person so he can be held responsible for what he did.

SUBARU STOLEN ON VIDEO: From Nadine:

Our 2015 white Subaru Forester was stolen this morning at 6:15 am from in front of our house on 36th Ave SW between Hinds and Manning. The doors were locked – thieves were caught on neighbors web cam … These guys look like pros – we reported to SPD immediately.

You can see the video here – watch the upper right. If you see the car – plate #AWC6229 – call 911.

BURGLARY: MR reports, “Household break-in at 35th Ave SW and Holly sometime after 8:05 am 5/31. Most likely in the afternoon. It was reported to police approximately 8:30 pm 5/31. Jewelry, credit cards stolen and passport. If you saw anything please call police with the information.”

P.S. Burglary- and auto-theft-prevention advice is in this month’s newsletter from Southwest Precinct crime-prevention coordinator Jennifer Dannerread it here.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Victim taken to hospital after street robbery near Fairmount Park

A woman was taken to the hospital by private ambulance after she was attacked and robbed near 40th/Findlay [map] less than an hour ago, police confirm. According to the initial report, she told them the attacker grabbed her by the hair and pulled her down, then got away with her wallet. When we went to the scene to follow up, they confirmed the robber was reported to have been last seen headed westbound on Findlay. He was described only as a white man, late teens or early 20s, white shirt, blue jeans, and police were searching in the area. If you have any information, call 911.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Car-prowl victim gets stuff back

E-mailed by George:

I just wanted to pass along that my car was prowled at the top of SW Myrtle St, somewhere between 1AM and 4AM and the only reason I found out so early was that the SPD officer called me at 4:45 to ask if I was missing an ID.

Sure enough, I just installed a Console Vault yesterday afternoon and had not put everything back in. It was all conviniently in a reusable TJs bag on my front seat. They took that along with some headrest DVD players and my skateboard and grease gun from the back of my truck. All of that is irrelevant since it was all recovered minus some extra keys for all the locks.

The SPD officer said they were pulled over for license plate expiration and given tickets for that but could not be detained. So they departed the scene and were not able to be found subsequently. It was not until he started to process the vehicle he was impounding that he discovered the items. It was 2 males in a green mid-’90s Jeep Grand Cherokee, with a University of Margaritaville sticker in the back windshield originally seen just before 4 AM at 15th and Barton Ave SW.

The report is 18-194460 for the traffic infraction and he said there will be another one once he is finished processing all of my belongings.

We asked George if there were any further details about the impound: “The reason for impound as reported by the SPD officer was that the license plate had tags that expired 2014 and anything over 45 days expired can be impounded.”

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Thieves take bike, tools

11:43 PM TUESDAY: That bike is part of what was taken from a South Delridge yard on Saturday night. The victim reports anonymously:

Saturday night two trucks pulled up to our townhouse on the corner of 18th and Barton while we were gone. A white truck with red door (Nissan or Mazda mid-’90s) and then a red Ford truck (probably F150, early 2000s) arrived around 10:30 and left a little after midnight.

There appeared to be 3-4 males in the white truck wearing dark clothes with flashlights. A woman wearing shorts drove the red truck. They prowled around mostly on 18th Street. They entered a secured courtyard and just after midnight left with at least a cream-colored custom built road bike and two Craftsman tool boxes, one large red rolling and a smaller black stackable one.

Bike Description
58cm road bike frame, steel, “breezer” logo on rear dropouts, tig welded (custom)
Steel fork with brazed crown
Child seat bar (aluminum) attached to steer tube
“Function” emblem on head tube
Cream color with subtle pink stains on downtube in powdercoat
Dent on top tube wrapped in dark gray vinyl
Dent on seat tube wrapped in dark gray vinyl
Seat stays wrapped in dark gray vinyl
1 chainstay wrapped in black electrical tape
Shimano 600 parts group
2 x 8 speeds

There are a few more distinguishing features, but that ought to be enough for you to recognize it if you see/find it. If you have any information on the theft, the SPD incident # is 18-192497.

ADDED WEDNESDAY, 4:05 PM: Good job, commenters! E-mailed by the victim: “The police found the truck and owner today around noon. We were able to recover a lot of what was taken, including the bicycle and the tool boxes. There’s damage and things are missing but it feels good to recover something. Please send our gratitude to all the readers for looking out for each other!”

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Six reports, from Admiral hit-run to Puget Ridge smoke-break prowler

Two reader reports and four police reports in West Seattle Crime Watch tonight:

HIT-AND-RUN: That’s Tom‘s car, after a hit-and-run driver damaged it this afternoon:

Somebody hit my car on 42nd just South of Admiral Way while it was parked on the street. Parking location was just East of Jack in the Box on the West side of the road. Was parked there from 3:30-5 in case somebody in the area saw something. No note or anything like that was left.

We don’t yet have the police incident #.

PACKAGE THEFT: Received from Jesse just a few minutes ago:

I had a package stolen today between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm (in the 6000 block of) Fauntleroy Way SW. Unfortunately I was moving my camera system around so I did not catch the thief! I came back home around 10:30 tonight and thrown against my gate was my open box but inside was what I assume is somebody else’s item.

On to the police-report files, where we found four narratives of interest, now available from incidents in the past week:

ROAD RAGE ON 35TH: Around 8 am last Friday (May 18th), police were called to 35th/Webster after a driver called police to say he was the victim of a road-rage incident and threatened with a gun. He said it started when the suspect almost hit his car while changing lanes on 35th just north of Morgan. The victim honked; “words” were exchanged, and then, the victim said, the suspect tried to get him to pull over, but he continued on to Webster. The suspect apparently followed him, and drove by after the victim parked, showing a handgun and saying, “I’ll shoot your a–.” He was last seen southbound on 34th.

PURSE-SNATCHING TARGET FIGHTS BACK: Last Wednesday just before 2 pm, at Admiral/California, a woman told police, she was sitting on a bench, charging her phone, when a man came up and asked if he could use it. She said no. He then grabbed her purse, which was on the bench; they struggled over it – she retained it, though he grabbed $27 out of it. He also grabbed her phone out of her hand and ran; she chased him. The police report continues, “As they were running, she punched him in the back of the head, causing him to stumble.” She then grabbed her phone back. He got away with the cash.

MORGAN JUNCTION BURGLARY: Also last Wednesday, police were called to an apartment in the 6300 block of 42nd SW after the tenant’s daughter discovered it in “disarray” while her mom was away getting health care. Items stolen, according to the police report, included a handgun, medications, mail, a bicycle, and a “key to (a) car which was also stolen from the street.” Security video showed the burglar had broken in around 5 am that morning. He also left another bicycle in the courtyard.

PUGET RIDGE PROWLER: Busy afternoon last Wednesday for police, who also got a call about a prowler at a house in the 6700 block of 21st SW around quarter till 5. The resident wasn’t home but saw the prowler via a live video feed. The feed showed the prowler, who was smoking, had gone into the back yard and sat down. He was gone when police arrived but they found a cigarette butt and a “Now and Later” candy wrapper.

CRIME WATCH FOLLOWUP: 1 year later, Alki murder remains unsolved

(May 23, 2017, WSB photo by Christopher Boffoli)

Tonight marks exactly a year since 23-year-old Jordan D. Thomas was shot and killed at Alki Beach. It happened around 9 pm at 62nd and Alki. In the days after, police said they believed that the victim was targeted – and that to date remains the only information made public about the case. We just checked with SPD again and they say the murder remains unsolved but still an “active and ongoing investigation.” Information is still welcome via the SPD Homicide Tip Line, 206-233-5000. At the time, some were concerned it could mean the start to a long, violent summer at the beach, but no other Alki incidents followed; the rest of the year’s West Seattle violence, including a deadly shooting and deadly stabbing, happened in other areas.

West Seattle Crime Watch: Package thieves picking up

Two reader reports of package theft in West Seattle Crime Watch tonight:

ALKI THEFT: From Tosa:

My package got stolen from my door step on 5/21 around 4:14 pm. Nearest cross street to my home – 60th Ave SW & Admiral Way:

(Description)
Hair: Black beanie hat
Top: Blue shirt, black jacket
Bottom: Black pants
Shoes: Black shoes
Age: 55
Sex: Male
Race: White
Physical Build: Stocky
Other: He is carrying a black backpack and looks like he’s delivering packages. I have reported this information to the police.

The man only took one of the two packages on Tosa’s doorstep – the one from Nordstrom.

HARBOR THEFT: Laura says multiple neighbors have been hit at her building:

Our neighbor had a package stolen a couple days ago. More neighbors had the same thing happen too. Photo (is) of person walking away with one of the packages – Harbor Ave SW & Fauntleroy Way SW.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Mini-mart hit again; repeat offender back in jail

Two items in West Seattle Crime Watch tonight:

MINI-MART HIT AGAIN: The police Twitter log shows a commercial burglary early this morning in the 4000 block of California SW, and Casey says neighbors report it was the gas station/mini-mart at California/Andover, again, just two weeks after the last break-in. Items stolen reportedly included thousands of dollars in cigarettes.

REPEAT OFFENDER BACK IN JAIL: Last week, repeat offender Bryan Tiedeman posted bond and got out of jail after five months; he is awaiting trial on four counts of possessing stolen vehicles. Today, according to scanner traffic, he was caught back at or near his former residence in Fauntleroy, and he turned up on the jail register a few hours later, held for alleged criminal trespass. Court documents for the case on which Tiedeman is awaiting trial call him a “prolific auto thief” and say he is a “serial reckless driver when being sought by the police,” adding that police once asked him why, and he told them that “he didn’t like being in stolen vehicles.” The December arrest that put him in jail was in South Delridge; the four stolen vehicles involved in the charges were taken from Admiral, Highland Park, The Junction, and Renton.

P.S. Got neighborhood crime/safety concerns? Your next chance to hear from and talk with local police is Tuesday, 6:30 pm, when the West Seattle Block Watch Captains Network meets at the Southwest Precinct (2300 SW Webster).

UPDATE: About the police response on West Seattle Bridge

6:01 PM: Thanks to SDOT for the image: A Seattle Police/State Patrol response has two lanes blocked on the westbound West Seattle Bridge. According to what we heard via scanner, a state trooper had someone at gunpoint, and called for backup. SPD responded (you might have seen multiple cars headed full code through West Seattle). We don’t know the circumstances of the arrest or what preceded it, but everything is reported to be under control now.

6:35 PM: The scene has cleared to the shoulder, so no lanes blocked any more, per SDOT. Meantime, WSP Trooper Rick Johnson just called us after we asked what this was all about. He said a trooper “on his way to work at the ferry terminal” tried to pull over the driver, a woman, for reasons as yet unknown, and she refused to stop – so he saw what Johnson called a “perfect opportunity” for a PIT maneuver – Pursuit Intervention Technique, which causes the pursued vehicle to lose control and spin to a stop. He subsequently took the driver into custody; an ambulance was called to check her out because at the very least, Johnson explains, that gives the driver a jolt. She’ll eventually be booked into jail.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Suspects sought in robbery spree that included West Seattle holdup

Seattle Police went public this afternoon with four photos of suspects they say are wanted in a robbery spree this week that included a West Seattle holdup:

Police say the Avalon 7-11 was robbed around 3 am, one of six holdups in and out of Seattle in a two and a half hour time frame, and that not only do they believe these four suspects were linked to all of them, but also that they committed two robberies on May 16th. They are described as:

… four black males, ranging in age from 16 to early twenties. All of the suspects had their faces partially covered either by masks or hooded sweatshirts that were drawn tight. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun. At this point there is no suspect vehicle description. The images below are from the Seattle robberies on May 16th.

If anyone recognizes any of the suspects … or has any information on these crimes, please contact the Seattle Police Robbery Unit at (206) 684-5535.

The Avalon 7-11 robbery is the only one mentioned by SPD as having happened in West Seattle, and there are no further details so far.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Burglaries near Fairmount Park

While Rasmus and his wife were sleeping, somebody broke into their home near Fairmount Park, and he says police told them they weren’t the only ones hit:

We discovered someone had opened our sliding back door and targeted iOS devices. They also took my wife’s purse and wallet (w/ ID, medication, etc). They left bigger things (like TV) behind, and it looks like they were in and out very quickly.

The officer who arrived to take our statement told us it looks like several places may have been hit along Fauntleroy Way. He also said more people might discover it later in the day, because the burglars didn’t break anything and only went for smaller items.

We suspect it happened some time between 5:30 and 6 am, because we both heard some noises around that time, but thought it was the upstairs neighbor.

If you have any info, the SPD incident # is 2018-177832. Looking at Tweets by Beat, we see one other report in the system already, about two blocks south. (Remember that the time stamp on most of SPD’s automated tweets reflect when the report appeared in the system, not when the incident actually happened.)

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen blue Civic; dumped purse & more

Two reader reports to start off the day in West Seattle Crime Watch:

STOLEN BLUE CIVIC: Yolina‘s car was stolen near 24th SW and SW Holden. It’s a blue four-door 1998 Honda Civic, plates AOT1713. If you see it, call 911.

DUMPED AND LIKELY STOLEN: From Jonathan:

I woke up this morning to find that someone had dumped a handbag and some other personal items at my curb. I have attached a photo in the off chance it can find its way back to its rightful owner.

I’m located at 49th and Stevens.

P.S. – CRIME PREVENTION COUNCIL TONIGHT: Got a neighborhood crime concern? Or a question for police? Tonight’s your chance to bring it up with them in person at the monthly West Seattle Crime Prevention Council meeting, 7 pm, Southwest Precinct (2300 SW Webster), all welcome.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen red Accord

We think the cats are OK – but Barbara‘s car is gone:

This morning my car wasn’t in its spot at Tracy Ann Apartments on Murray Ave. ’92 Honda Accord, dark red and reported missing around 7 am. If seen please contact 406 599 6185.

But first, call 911. P.S. Barbara’s car has Montana plates.

TUESDAY UPDATE: Barbara says the car has been found.

CRIME WATCH FOLLOWUPS: Another charge, arrest for Gregory Thompson; new court date for Kierra Ward

Checking the court files, followups on two people whose cases we’ve been following:

GREGORY THOMPSON: Since last we checked on Thompson in late April, the Puget Ridge man police say was found with drugs and guns, he’s gotten out of jail again – and been booked back in again. After his April 23rd arrest on warrants, he got out on May 5th. Then on May 9th, he was arrested again – not just in connection with the previous cases, but also related to a new charge: Possession of a stolen vehicle. Court documents say surveillance video links Thompson to a vehicle reported here on WSB after it was stolen – a red F-250 pickup truck – and that a WSB reader found it parked in front of a house in Westwood. Thompson’s in jail in lieu of $125,000 bail.

KIERRA WARD: The defendant in last October’s Admiral stabbing attack has another new court date. Today Ward’s trial-readiness hearing was postponed again, this time to June 8th, because of ongoing trial preparations. Ward has been in jail in lieu of $400,000 bail since the day she was arrested, after a mother was stabbed while out for a walk with her baby.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen blue-green Civic; stolen Cannondale bike; stolen percussion instruments

Three reader reports in West Seattle Crime Watch:

STOLEN CAR: From Amy:

My son’s car was stolen on 24th & Holden sometime between 10 pm yesterday and 2 pm today (Thursday 5/10). Blue/green color, 4-door 2000 Honda Civic. License plate AVS9683. Cracked windshield and dented rear bumper. It’s been reported to police and he hopes to recover it, as sentimental-value items were in the trunk. If spotted, please call 911.

SPD incident # 2018-167234.

STOLEN BICYCLE: From Dawn:

Yet again another Cannondale bike was stolen from behind my apartment building. This is the 3rd one ! The U Lock was cut off. I’m getting tired of these thieves in our neighborhood. This is my only means of transportation. We are not allowed to bring our bikes into the building, so I invested in a U-Lock and it didn’t stop the thief or thieves from stealing it. It is a black Cannondale, with the writing Beast from the East on the frame. Please call Dawn @ 206-422-3785. Thank you.

STOLEN PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS: From Fred:

My car was broken into (Tuesday) night in the 1600 block of California Ave SW. Window smashed and black suitcase full of percussion instruments (bells, guiro, claves, drumsticks) stolen. There’s a slight chance that the thief dumped it somewhere once he or she realized that there was nothing of value, and I’d love to have it back. I have reported this information to the police.

P.S. Your next chance to check in with local police is next Tuesday, May 15th, 7 pm, when the West Seattle Crime Prevention Council meets at the Southwest Precinct (2300 SW Webster). Special guest will be talking about transportation safety – SDOT’s Jim Curtin.

FOLLOWUP: Police continue to search for killer in Lorenzo Marr shooting at West Seattle Stadium

2:02 PM: Two days after West Seattle’s first homicide of 2018, no arrest yet in the shooting death of 44-year-old Lorenzo Marr at WS Stadium. That’s according to Seattle Police; we talked with Southwest Precinct commander Capt. Pierre Davis before he spoke to today’s West Seattle Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting at The Kenney. He said the belief that it wasn’t random is the newest information on the case, and they are continuing to look for a silver Toyota Camry – sightings reported so far have not panned out. Mr. Marr was identified publicly by friends and family last night as they launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover funeral costs. According to the Rainier Beach Track Club – one of two community-center track clubs (along with High Point) there for a meet on Tuesday night – Mr. Marr was a club dad. The shooting happened about 7:30 pm Tuesday in the stadium parking lot; the victim, who police say was shot multiple times, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center but could not be saved. (Photo: Lorenzo Marr Memorial Fund page)

ADDED 3:49 PM: From Seattle Parks this afternoon:

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is deeply saddened by the events that took place on May 8 outside of West Seattle stadium during an SPR youth track meet. Our thoughts are with the families, children, and staff who were present at the stadium.

We are grateful to staff and parents who quickly responded to keep children and families safe and sheltered. Johnnie Williams, Luwam Ogube and Brieah Marino as well as other staff, acted heroically and we cannot thank them enough for their quick judgement and bravery.

We have scheduled a Community Healing Circle with Reverend Harriett Walden on Saturday, May 12 from 10 am-1 pm at Rainier Community Center (Gym #2). We invite all those seeking support to attend.

We are canceling the Lowell Barry track meet that was scheduled for Saturday, May 12.

City Championship track meets will take place on Monday and Tuesday, May 14 & May 15 at Chief Sealth HS Stadium. Monday’s meet is for ages 7-10, and begins at 5:30 pm. Tuesday’s meet is for ages 11-18, and begins at 5:30 pm.

We have reached out to Seattle Police Department to request their presence at both championship meets.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, the families and children who were participating, and the SPR staff and volunteers who run the track and field program. Again, we are incredibly grateful to our staff who quickly reacted to keep our kids and families safe during this event, and we will be considering how to offer active shooter training for all youth athletic coaches, volunteers, and staff.

WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen red Subaru Impreza

|    Comments Off on WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Stolen red Subaru Impreza
 |   Crime | West Seattle news

From Chelsea, who hopes you can help find her 1997 red Subaru Impreza, plates BGX7941:

My car was stolen from in front of my house (Luna Park area) last night between the hours of 10 pm and 9 am. I would appreciate all the help possible in locating it because I do rely heavily on my car. I know the power of the West Seattle Community and I would really appreciate the help and support.

She adds that her car has many bumper stickers plus prayer beads hanging from the rear-view mirror and “a tear over the back right tire next to the gas cap.” If you see it, call 911. (Added: SPD incident # 18-163305.)
