Another long list of events and reminders to start the weekend, mostly from the WSB West Seattle Event Calendar:

ROAD-WORK REMINDERS: If you missed it in our Friday traffic watch, here’s what SDOT plans today:

Between 7 AM to 5 PM, we’re updating curb ramps at 16th Ave SW and SW Barton St in Highland Park. We will be working from the parking lanes, but people driving in the area can expect minor delays.

Additionally, between 7 AM to 5 PM, we’ll be installing traffic signs on southbound SR 99 between S Atlantic S and S Spokane St. During this work, we’ll need to reduce the two travel lanes to a single lane. People driving southbound on SR 99 may experience delays.

In South Park, the intersection of S Chicago St and 5th Ave S will be closed from 6 AM to 4 PM for upgrading the main water line under the street. This work is part of the South Park Drainage and Roadway Partnership, which is a project we are working together on with Seattle Public Utilities to improve chronic flooding and drainage issues in South Park.

And a reminder that repairs were finished early on the Spokane Street ramp to NB 99, so it’s open again.

HIGHLAND PARK WAY CLEANUP: Join Adopt-A-Street volunteer Dustin at 9 am – our calendar listing explains the plan/location.

GUIDED HIKE: Meet in the upper north lot of Riverview Playfield (7224 12th SW) at 10 am for this hike – details in our calendar listing,

HEALTHY KIDS DAY: The fun, free, activities-laden event at the West Seattle YMCA, 10 am-1 pm – all welcome, membership NOT required. (3622 SW Snoqualmie).

INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY: Paper Boat Booksellers (6040 California SW) is open 10 am-6 pm and celebrating all day long, with guest authors during Family Reading Time hosted in the nearby HeartBeet Event Space at 11 am, and bonus fun at the shop.

DRUG TAKE-BACK DAY: 10 am-2 pm, bring your expired/not-needed prescription to the lot outside the Southwest Precinct (2300 SW Webster), 10 am-2 pm, for safe, no-questions-asked disposal.

DUWAMISH ALIVE! Though all the volunteer spots are filled, you’re invited to Duwamish Alive! for the opening ceremony at həʔapus Village Park (4500 Duwamish Trail).

Duwamish Alive! is a watershed-wide collaborative effort in improving the health of our salmon by restoring their habitat, which provides food, shelter, and cool, clean water. Starting at 10:00 am, volunteers will be restoring native habitat in multiple urban parks and open spaces from Seattle to Auburn in the ongoing effort to keep our river alive and healthy for our communities, salmon, and Puget Sound, proving that many individuals working together can make a substantial difference in improving the health of our region. Visitors will learn about the river, its salmon, wildlife and communities from the special programing and information at həʔapus Village Park & Shoreline Habitat, located on the ancestral site of the Duwamish Tribe along the river. Meet the organizations working to improve and protect the river and its habitat areas. Take home a FREE NATIVE PLANT from the Duwamish Longhouse while visiting their exhibit “Spirit Returns – A Duwamish and Settler Story.”

Scheduled speakers include Duwamish Tribe chair Cecile Hansen and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell.

ROAD-WORK ALERT: Two SDOT work sites between 7 am and 4:30 pm today:

We will be updating curb ramps at 45th Ave SW and Admiral Way SW in the North Admiral neighborhood. Parking will be limited during this work. People walking and biking in the area will be detoured to the other sides of the intersection for crossing.

In the North Delridge area, we’ll be installing foundations for future radar speed signs on 16th Ave SW between SW Morgan St and SW Findlay. The parking lane will be blocked as we complete this work, however we do not anticipate disrupting traffic or impacting people walking and biking in the area.

CHURCHES: Many West Seattle churches are continuing online services, with most resuming in-person too – here’s our weekly update on 20+ churches.

The team is currently looking to hire 20-30 part-time employees for the months of June and July. High school and college students are welcome to apply with select positions being available to those 15 years of age and older. The job fair will allow those interested in working for the Fish Sticks to find out more information about each position and apply on site. For those that are interested but cannot attend the job fair they can apply online at GoFishSticks.com/jobs. Positions that are currently available include concessions, ticketing, game day operations, servers and security.

The DubSea Fish Sticks’ season begins on Saturday, June 4th, running through July 31st.
