HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS: Our West Seattle Halloween Guide has dozens of display locations, most with pics, sent to us in recent weeks.

TRICK-OR-TREAT AT YOUNGSTOWN: Trick-or-treating at Youngstown Coffee in Morgan Junction (6032 California SW) – candy and stickers – open 8 am-4 pm.

TRICK-OR-TREAT IN THE JUNCTION: West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival business trick-or-treating, 10 am-2 pm. The Farmers’ Market is on as usual; trick-or-treating is in front of businesses along the sidewalks, plus a few bonus locations such as the KeyBank plaza on the southwest corner of California/Alaska. See you there – we’ll be there updating as it goes!

TRICK-OR-TREAT AT PAPER BOAT: Paper Boat Booksellers (6040 California SW) will give out candy bags (open 11 am-5 pm).

ROAD-WORK ALERTS: SDOT plans work at these three spots – 16th/Austin concrete-panel work between 7 am and 5 pm, with steel panels then placed over the new concrete so it can harden, to be removed Sunday; Corson and Michigan in Georgetown, 6 am-11 am, updating street striping; “minor pavement repairs in various locations” in South Park, 7 am-5 pm.

VACCINATION CLINIC OPENS: Today is the first day for West Seattle’s new city-sponsored COVID-19 vaccination clinic, at Neighborhood House High Point (6400 Sylvan Way SW), as announced earlier this week. Walk-ins welcome, appointments too, 11 am-7 pm Fridays, 8:30 am-4:30 pm Saturdays.

DELRIDGE/HIGHLAND PARK STAY HEALTHY STREETS OPINIONS? Share your thoughts with an SDOT team that’ll be tabling 2-4 pm on 11th SW by Highland Park Elementary to listen to your comments and answer questions. The city has proposed a permanent route, as previewed here.

PORT COMMISSION: Three Seattle Port Commission races are on the ballot, each with an incumbent and a challenger. At 5 pm online, the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition co-presents a forum with all three. Our calendar listing includes the registration link.

KING COUNTY EXECUTIVE: The two West Seattleites in this race will face off again during the West Seattle Transportation Coalition‘s monthly meeting, online at 6:30 pm. The viewing/call-in information is in our calendar listing.

CITY BUDGET: Today’s the second of third days for the City Council to go through the nearly 200 amendments they’re proposing for next year’s budget. The weekend’s here! So is our daily list:

TRAFFIC ALERTS: SDOT plans work early this morning – done “as soon as 8 am” – to install “a small island using paint and white posts near SW Front St in the center turn lane on West Marginal Way SW [map]. We will close one lane in both directions, including the center turn lane, to complete this work.” Later in the morning, they plan to “install missing posts on West Marginal Way S and S Holden St [map]. These posts help limit the number of last-minute lane changes to get into the right turn only lane that people use to drive north over the 1st Ave S Bridge. We will be closing one of the three southbound lanes and will keep the right turn only lane open during this work. We anticipate this work to conclude as early as 12 pm.”

Alki UCC church has asked us to follow their protocol, which is probably familiar to you from entering other venues. The main guidelines are:

-After the meeting begins, the front doors will be locked, with a number listed to text for entry.

KING COUNTY REDISTRICTING: We’ve talked about the once-a-decade process of re-mapping the districts from which legislative and U.S. House representatives are elected. Also under way – redrawing of King County Council districts. Community input is important, and you can find out how via an online “town hall” at 7 pm tonight – attendance info here.

The Green-Duwamish, One River for All
From its pristine headwaters near Mt Rainier, above the Howard Hanson Dam through a magical gorge of waterfalls and great walls on to farmland and urban industry, the Green-Duwamish River and its watershed is at the center of our region’s history and future. A new photo exhibit presents a modern view of the river from its headwaters to where it meets Puget Sound, interweaving the human and wildlife connections of the river; presented by renowned photojournalist Tom Reese, who has been twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and Lisa Parsons a well respected conservationist and photographer. Experience for the first time a view of the river from its mountain top beginnings to the Puget Sound with these stunning photographs.

t7áWee: Creek of HOPE
The premier showing of Tom Reese’s Longfellow Creek photo exhibit, the first photo exhibit of the creek from its 10,000 year old headwaters at Roxhill Park to Elliott Bay. This iconic creek which is on the ancestral land of the Duwamish Tribe, is the backbone of West Seattle reflecting the many changes of the region as it has developed. Discover little-known places of the creek, the human and wildlife connects, and the questions we face about its future.
