Here’s what’s happening in the hours ahead:

MOD PIZZA BOGO: The custom-pizza chain is debuting a new plant-based sausage today and if you order it on your pizza today, a second pizza will be free. MOD has two West Seattle locations, The Whittaker (4755 Fauntleroy Way SW) and Westwood Village (2600 SW Barton).

LAFAYETTE PTA ‘DINE-OUT’ EVENT: The Lafayette Elementary PTA is teaming up with Good Society Brewery and Public House, which is also at California/Lander, just south of the school. Here’s the announcement:

Tuesday, 8/31, 3-10 pm’

If you are comfortable and would like to support Lafayette, we are partnering with our neighbor across the street, Good Society Brewery, to host a Dine Out. Mention “Lafayette PTA” and a % of proceeds will be donated back to the Lafayette PTA. It will be a great chance to support a local business, enjoy great beer & food, and support our students.

In addition, a food truck, 314 Pie, will be parked at Good Society from 4 pm – 7 pm, and the street in front of Good Society will be blocked off for kids (and their adults) to enjoy games. Please note that no Lafayette teachers or staff will be at the fundraiser.

CREATED COMMONS CONTINUES: This first-of-its-kind series of events celebrating art and science continues with a 6 pm commemoration of International Overdose Awareness Day, with “art, poetry, health science, remembrance, recovery.” The Created Commons stage is in Westcrest Park (9000 8th SW), just north of the P-Patch. (You can get vaccinated at tonight’s event, too.)

So many options today, as August’s final weekend concludes:

ROAD-WORK ALERTS: Work is scheduled again today at West Marginal Way/Highland Park Way (until 1 pm), and we’re told the backup was huge on Saturday – so avoid that area if you can. Work is also planned at 44th and Edmunds.

CHURCHES: Many continue streaming, in addition to in-person services. Here are the newest links for 20+ West Seattle churches’ services.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE PICKUP: 10 am at West Seattle Stadium (4432 35th SW) – different location than usual this week.

WEST SEATTLE FARMERS’ MARKET: 10 am-2 pm on California between Oregon and Alaska. Scroll down the page at this link to find the vendor list and map for this week. (The market is a WSB sponsor.)

LOOP THE ‘LUPE: Today’s the day! Walt Hundley Playfield (34th/Myrtle) is the place. Here’s the schedule of events: The obstacle-course 5K is first up at 11 am, followed by the 5K run/walk at 11:45, quarter-mile-loop Senior Saunter at noon, 1K Youth Dash for kids 8 and under at 1 pm. Yes, you can still sign up this morning! Prizes, plus a beer garden and live music for afterpartying. Proceeds benefit the social work done by Our Lady of Guadalupe for people of all religious/nonreligious backgrounds. (WSB is a community co-sponsor of Loop the ‘Lupe.)

CREATED COMMONS, DAY 3: The third day of this celebration of art and science at Westcrest Park (9000 8th SW, north of the P-Patch), produced by Lelavision, whose website has the full schedule. Today starts at noon – go see and “flap” the kinetic sculpture Interspecies Communication – then at 4 pm, it’s a discussion of health-care access, followed by a performance slate curated by artist/activist dani tirrell. ROAD-WORK REMINDERS: SW Genesee is scheduled to be closed again today west of Delridge – we’ll check on that by 9 am (update: still closed), along with SW Avalon, which was bollixed by not-widely-announced paving work Saturday. (Update: No work on Avalon, fully open.) Meantime, the Highland Park Way/West Marginal intersection work is scheduled until 1 pm again today, and northbound 26th SW remains closed between Roxbury and Barton.

PARKS’ AQUATIC SCHEDULE FOR TODAY: Wading pools are closed on Wednesdays, but Highland Park Spraypark is open 11 am-8 pm as usual (1100 SW Cloverdale) as is Colman Pool at Lincoln Park (8011 Fauntleroy Way SW), noon-7 pm.

STAYING COOL INDOORS: The city’s list has two air-conditioned West Seattle locations for today, the Senior Center of West Seattle (4217 SW Oregon) until 4:30 pm and the Delridge Library (5423 Delridge Way SW) until 6 pm. Before the hottest days arrive (tomorrow and Friday), we’re checking on other options, so if you know of any, please comment, or email us at westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you! (added) The city has since updated its list to add the High Point Library (3411 SW Raymond), open until 6 today, 10-6 tomorrow and Friday. BALLOT-MEASURE DISCUSSION: Tonight at 6 pm, before their regular meeting at 7 pm, the 34th District Democrats host a discussion of City Charter Amendment 29, which will be decided by voters in November. Supporters call it “Compassion Seattle“; they will be represented along with opponents, who have organized as “House Our Neighbors.” The discussion is online, as is the meeting, which is expected to include fall endorsement votes. Big day/night on the peninsula and beyond.

VOTE BY 8 PM: Only five races (mayor, 2 City Council spots, City Attorney, County Executive) and one proposition (Best Starts for Kids) on your primary-election ballot – get it to a dropbox (here’s the countywide map, which also includes one in White Center and one in South Park) before 8 pm, or a mailbox sooner. We’ll publish results when they’re released (should be by 8:15 pm).

NORTHWEST SEAPORT ALLIANCE: The port commissioners of Seattle and Tacoma meet at 11 am; here’s the agenda; here’s how to watch.
