CRANE REMOVAL: Avoid Fauntleroy Way between Alaska and Edmunds – the tower crane for the big project on the east side of the street is coming down today, as previewed here. (11:07 AM UPDATE: Traffic is alternating directions on that block of Fauntleroy – it’s not completely closed.)

TRAFFIC ALERTS: Two for today – lane closures on the southbound 1st Avenue South Bridge continue around the clock all weekend, and work is planned all day today at the Delridge/Genesee intersection – but it’s NOT part of the ongoing SDOT/Metro work; SDOT says it’s utility work related to residential development at that corner. ADDED 1:52 PM: Genesee is blocked at Delridge while this work continues. Also – thanks for the tips – the 35th/Roxbury signal is in flashing-red mode.

SEATTLE SCHOOL BOARD: 3:30 pm online, the board holds its regular twice-monthly meeting, as the district edges toward returning some students to in-person learning. The agenda has viewing information.

BAR-S CLEANUP: 5:15-6:15 pm, you’re invited again this evening to show up at Bar-S (64th SW/SW Admiral Way) to help prepare it for the West Seattle Little League season – details in our preview.

WEST SEATTLE SATURDAY: March’s first weekend begins

Welcome to the first weekend of March!

TRAFFIC ALERT – 1ST AVE. S. BRIDGE: The first overnight closure should be over by now, but again tonight, the southbound 1st Avenue South Bridge is supposed to close 9 pm-6 am. The West Seattle low bridge will be all-access for all those hours.

SCHOOL BOARD RETREAT: The Seattle Public Schools board has a five-hour online “retreat” today to talk about in-person learning, 8:30 am-1:30 pm. The agenda packet has information on how to watch/listen.

ROSS OPENS: Grand-opening day for the new store at Westwood Village, 9 am-11 pm.

COMPOST GIVEAWAY: 9 am-3 pm (while it lasts), compost will be given away for free, up to half a yard per household, bring your own container and shovel, and wear a mask. North lot at South Seattle College (WSB sponsor), 6000 16th SW.

VISCON CELLARS TASTING ROOM: 1-5 pm, stop by the tasting room (5910 California SW) to sip, and/or buy, Viscon Cellars (WSB sponsor) wine.

HIGH-SCHOOL FOOTBALL: No fans allowed, but FYI – Chief Sealth International High School hosts Roosevelt at Southwest Athletic Complex at 4 pm, and West Seattle High School plays Cleveland at Memorial Stadium downtown at 5 pm. You can see the West Seattle-Cleveland game online, as Rainier Avenue Radio plans play-by-play, video and audio – here’s where to watch at gametime.

GIRL SCOUT COOKIE SALES CONTINUES: As we reported earlier this week, Girl Scouts are now selling cookies – including online orders from local Scouts who are offering no-contact delivery. Here’s how to order.

SCHOOL BOARD TALKS BUDGET: School-bus cuts? Price increases for school meals? The Seattle Public Schools board continues talking about ways to narrow a budget gap, with an online “work session” at 4:30 pm. The agenda includes background info and how to watch/listen. (No public-comment period at work sessions.)

KING COUNTY TOWN HALL: At 6 pm, our area’s County Councilmember Joe McDermott is one of four leading an online Town Hall tonight, spotlighting the pandemic response and other key issues. For viewing/call-in info, go here. Got a question? Send it in advance via this page.
