More West Seattle Halloween scenes

From the WSB inbox … First, from the Waddell Family in Seaview:

The most spirited display in Upper Fauntleroy:

In White Center, Lacey‘s “Last Resort Hotel” – on 18th Ave SW between Roxbury and SW 98th St. – remains open until 9 tonight and will be open 4-8 pm tomorrow (when it might be drier), collecting donations for the White Center Food Bank:

And on 47th between Hinds and Hanford, R-n-B added significantly to their famous display since the reader photo we had earlier:

R (aka Ron) said they were still adding to their display, plus, “We wanted to give a shoutout to Lucy; she brought us a couple of notes of appreciation and we wanted to let her know they now have a place of honor on our refrigerator. Thank you, Lucy! You melted our hearts.”

Thanks to EVERYONE who sent Halloween photos this season, whether of their own displays or others’ – we’ll get going with the winter holidays soon!

HALLOWEEN 2025: White Center trick-or-treat block party defies the rain

(WSB/WCN photos)

South of SW Roxbury, 16th SW is closed in the heart of White Center for the season’s last round of business-district trick-or-treating.

Canopies prevail; treats will be available until about 7 pm, and local bars and restaurants have indoor activities planned too. The White Center Business Alliance organized this and is behind other memorable events too, like the third-Thursday Rat City Art and Food Walk. One lead WC instigator is Puffy Pandy proprietor Donna, who we photographed with son Ivan:

Even hardy pets were out:

HALLOWEEN BIZNOTE: ‘Trick or Read’ at Tails to Astonish

(WSB photos)

Proprietors Nicole and Shaun are in costume at West Seattle’s only comic-book store, Tails to Astonish – and costumed trick-or-treaters are invited to visit too. They’ve declared the day “Trick or Read,” with comic freebies and candy for visitors:

The treats include deals, too. They’re having a sale, today only, big discounts on merchandise including trade paperbacks, used back issues, and various toys.

Tails to Astonish is at 5633 California SW and open until 7 pm.

WEST SEATTLE HALLOWEEN SCENE: Fast (food) fashion

Photo just sent by Cindi:

I’m in the Westwood McDonald’s at lunch time, and Ronald McDonald and the Burger King are ordering from the McDonald’s kiosk.

(No Wendy sighting.)

HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS: The eyes have it. Plus, lots of lights

Four more photos sent in but not yet shown, until this Halloween Eve:

Thanks to Joanne, Dana, and Jerry for the, shall we say, watchful displays above and below.

And Frank sent his light display from North Burien.

Tomorrow’s the big night, rain or not … thanks to everyone whose photos and tips have helped make the Halloween season memorable!

WEST SEATTLE HALLOWEEN: Shortcut to event listings

Yes, with all that “atmospheric river” talk, we’re probably in for a rainy Halloween, so you’ve likely already added an umbrella to your costume plan. But if you’re still considering what to do tomorrow – and over the weekend, for Dia de Muertos – here’s a shortcut to everything that’s in our calendar: Just go here for everything labeled with that category. And if you are having a haunted house or other Halloween event that’s open to the community, send the info ASAP – westseattleblog@gmail.com – and we’ll add it!

Missing a Halloween costume?

Our regular lost-found-not-pets board is a self-post sectiob of the WSB Community Forums, but this is an unusual and time-sensitive case. Sent this morning by Jean:

I found this costume in the Fauntleroy neighborhood . Specifically on Wildwood by the bus stop.
I’m not aware if you have lost and found, but I sure feel bad about this costume.

Recognize it? Let us know and we’ll connect you.

HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS: ‘House on Haunted Hill’

Just two nights until Halloween! Tonight’s decoration photos are from David:

Come visit the fifth year of the House on Haunted Hill. At night there are sounds, lights, frights, and full-size candy bars. 5206 23rd Ave SW. Dead End off Brandon and Delridge.

And those are just the least-scary photos he sent! Thanks yet again to everyone who’s sent seasonal photos (and if you’re planning Christmas lights, we’ll start that up next month) … more Halloween info tomorrow!

HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS: ‘The Last Resort Hotel’

Lacey sent the photos and info for tonight’s spotlight Halloween display!

I wanted to let you all know about my display The Last Resort Hotel. I am planning on having my yard open to walk through on Thursday Oct. 30 from 4-8 pm and on Friday Oct. 31 from 4-9 pm. White Center Trick or Treat goes from 4-7 pm, so that is a great time to come and visit! We are located on 18th Ave SW between Roxbury and SW 98th St. I will have a bin for people to drop off nonperishable items for White Center Food Bank as well as a link for people who would like to donate online. I would really love to make this an annual tradition. It is a lot of work to set this up and I want to share it with people and find a way to give back.

Every year I decorate the inside of my yard for my sons birthday, and this year we have taken on a new theme The Last Resort Hotel. Inside the yard you will find The Last Gasp Gift Shop with zombie snacks and tombstones for sale. The Witch Way Cafe hosts a bubbling cauldron and a creepy doll party. You can visit Zombie Place on the way to the Morgue, but watch out for dangling body parts!

It is definitely more fun to visit at night with all of the lighting on, but during the day there is still lots to enjoy and may feel less scary for the little ones.

Thanks to everyone who’s been sending photos – still a few more displays to show before Halloween on Friday!

WEDNESDAY: Create your own costume with upcycling at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center

Haven’t finalized your Halloween costume yet? Make – or decorate – one at a Youngstown Cultural Arts Center workshop tomorrow (Wednesday, October 29)! Claire from DNDA sent word of the fun – and sustainable! – event:

This Wednesday, October 29th from 5 pm – 7 pm, DNDA’s ArtPlus team will be hosting a free community workshop called “Space-2-Craft” at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center. We will be providing demos on making costumes from upcycled materials (such as cardboard, paper, etc.), as well as providing a space for creatives of all skill-levels to access the materials and collaboration they need to fix or finish their own costumes. We have an Eventbrite page to sign up through, with more information, here.

We’re excited to bring people together around sustainable creativity — turning recycled materials into bold, community-made costumes while showcasing the ongoing opportunities at Youngstown and DNDA.

Haven’t been to Youngstown? It’s at 4408 Delridge Way SW.

HALLOWEEN PREVIEW: Meeds Manor returns

West Seattle’s legendary haunted house Meeds Manor is back this Halloween. One night only, 3011 45th SW, 5:30-9 pm Friday. The Meeds family is opening their haunted house to collect West Seattle Food Bank donations, so be sure to bring nonperishable food! You can also support WSFB via cash donations on the family’s Venmo account, @meedsathletics.

TONIGHT’S DECORATION SPOTLIGHT ‘Alki Halloween Town’

Tonight’s featured Halloween decorations are at Zachary‘s house on Alki – and they’re not the only one on the block: “Multiple displays along 64th; there’s also dueling pirate-themed displays between ours and the neighbors across the street.” And for trick-or-treating, he adds, “We’re also registered on the Teal Pumpkin Project Map.”

(If you’re participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project too, please let us know – we’ll have a list in our calendar for Halloween.) Meantime, still room for a few more decoration photos before Friday night – westseattleblog@gmail.com if you haven’t sent yours yet – thank you! (Scroll through the WSB Halloween archive to see what we’ve shown already.)

WEST SEATTLE HALLOWEEN: Street of screams?

We missed last night’s Halloween-decoration showcase because of the windstorm, but we’re back on schedule tonight. We’ve already featured multiple displays on 47th SW, and here’s another one – also featured in past years – this year, Sandy sent the pic of the mega-decorated home on 47th between Hinds and Hanford. Four more nights, and then Halloween will be here! Not too late for more photos – westseattleblog@gmail.com – see what we’ve already shown by scrolling through our Halloween-coverage archive here – thank you!

PHOTOS: West Seattle Monster Dash 2025

PHOTOS BY OLIVER HAMLIN FOR WSB

Hundreds of walkers and runners of all ages took to the trails at Lincoln Park this morning, starting off Saturday with the West Seattle Monster Dash. It wasn’t just one dash – there were separate dashes for preschoolers and toddlers, and for older kids.

The grownups, and hardiest young competitors, ran and/or walked 5K through the park. Costumes were encouraged.

Full results are here. The top finisher was 36-year-old Kevin Rovegno:

Second finisher was 52-year-old Tiff Koehn:

No matter the speed, Monster Dash’ers are always spirited:

The day’s big winners were the West Seattle Cooperative Preschools, for which the Monster Dash is a fundraiser. (You can donate to them any time here.)

PHOTOS: Beach businesses welcome families for Alki Trick-or-Treat 2025

12:13 PM: A sunbreak is gracing the Alki business district as Alki Beach Trick-or-Treat begins. While it might be stormy later, this is a great time to get to the beach with costumed kids and collect treats from local businesses, along Alki Avenue between 63rd and 57th. Stop at the Log House Museum (61st/Stevens) and make an origami jack-o-lantern! It’s all on till 2 pm. More photos later!

2:37 PM: As promised, here are some of the sights WSB’s Torin Record-Sand saw along Alki Avenue:

Above are Matt and Elyssa Cichy – co-proprietors of Gary’s Place (where we photographed them) and West Seattle Arcade – who organized this year’s event with the Alki Community Council, which had reps on trick-or-treat duty too:

It was a lively scene, even with a squall moving through after the sunbreak:

The final business-district trick-or-treat event of this Hallo-weekend #1 will be during the West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival tomorrow, right after the 11 am costume parade – we’ll see you there too!

WEST SEATTLE HALLOWEEN: The house of a hundred pumpkins

Another annual Halloween-season tradition is shining bright! We’ve shown this in previous years and every year it’s a don’t miss sight. The photos were sent by Chuck, who wrote, “My neighbor Jason carves 100 pumpkins every year. All with differing features and each one lit. It’s quite a display.”

And those are just SOME of them! They’re on Genesee Hill, near 52nd SW and SW Dakota. … With one week left until Halloween, there’s still time to show your decorations, or your favorite sighting … photos are appreciated at westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!

WEEKEND PREVIEW: West Seattle Monster Dash raising $ for co-op preschools Saturday morning

The mascot awaits hundreds of runners of all ages tomorrow (Saturday, October 25) morning at Lincoln Park! The weather won’t stop this year’s West Seattle Monster Dash, 9:30 am in the central upper park, with the starting line near Shelter #1 (as shown in this park map). It’s a fundraiser for the West Seattle Cooperative Preschools and it’s not too late to register – the Monster Dash 5K is at 9:30 am, and the Kids’ Dash is 10:30 am. Lots of fun family activities too. Costumes encouraged!

PHOTOS: Despite rain, Admiral District Trick-or-Treating 2025 was sweet!

PHOTOS BY OLIVER HAMLIN FOR WSB

3:30 PM: As shown in our screengrab from the Admiral/California traffic cam, Admiral District trick-or-treating is under way, with umbrellas joining treat bags as accessories this year! The participants stretch from Avamere and Mioposto (WSB sponsor) in North Admiral to Shug’s and Welcome Road Winery (WSB sponsor) at California/Charlestown – the map is on the Admiral Neighborhood Association website, but we’ve heard from businesses NOT on the map that are participating too, like Alki Mail (47th/Admiral) and Zelda Zonk (2210 California SW), so there’s a ton of treats to be had! It’s continuing until 6 pm; photojournalist Oliver Hamlin is out on the route for WSB, and just caught up with West Seattle Runner (WSB sponsor) proprietors Lori and Tim:

6:12 PM: Adding more photos from Oliver:

Erica Brady of FIT4MOM and son Levi:

Destiny Itano of Seattle Yarn guarded the candy bowl, dressed as a shark in a sweater.

Note their crowd bracing against the rain:

The Grobe family chose Pokémon themed costumes:

We found Heat Miser and Snow Miser outside West Wings:

Rebecca Rice of Arthur’s conjured up a witch outfit:

So did Modern Roots proprietor Jessica Forsythe:

And Freda McCrae at Brookdale Admiral Heights, appreciating a trick-or-treating hot dog:

Then there was “Hugz the Clown”:

Avian King is proprietor of The Summerland, a new business:

The Moore family had a milk-and-cookies theme going:

At Mission Cantina, the giant skeleton was in the spotlight.

And even more characters:

More trick-or-treat events are ahead this weekend, starting with Alki Beach businesses noon-2 pm Saturday, Trail or Treat at Camp Long cabins 3:30-7 pm Saturday, Trunk or Treat at Hope School 6:30-8 pm Saturday, and during the Junction Harvest Festival 11 am-2 pm Sunday!

WEST SEATTLE HALLOWEEN: Teal Pumpkin Project reminder

One week until Halloween! Again this year, readers reminded us about the Teal Pumpkin Project, “a simple way to make trick-or-treating safer and more inclusive for the one in 13 children living with food allergies, and many others impacted by intolerances and other conditions.” If you’re interested, you can use this map, and we’ll also have a calendar entry for local Teal Pumpkin homes we hear from – westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!

WEST SEATTLE HALLOWEEN: Haunted catch

Tonight’s decoration-spotlight photo was sent by M., who explains, “At Genesee Hill. My son Jakob (11) decorated for Halloween.” The big night is just one week from tomorrow! You’re sstill welcome to send photos – westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you! (And we’re continuing to add Halloween-season events to our calendar – go here for that specific list.)

WEST SEATTLE HALLOWEEN: ‘Sincere pumpkin patches’

Thanks to Bethany for tonight’s spotlight Halloween-season decorations – she’s on the hunt for “sincere pumpkin patches” and has found three celebrating the “Great Pumpkin” of “Peanuts” fame!

I’m in search of the most sincere pumpkin patch. So far I have found:

Alaska & 50th: (above)

Belvedere between Hinds and Hanford: (below)

47th between Walker and Hill (with Charlie Brown ghost!): (below)

It is fun for the wonderful neighbors who worked hard on the decorations, fellow Great Pumpkin seekers, and maybe serve as a callout to others on the peninsula who have sincere pumpkin patches I could visit!

You might recognize the third house as one where “Peanuts” is celebrated at Christmastime too!

Got decorations? Seen decorations? We’re showing photos nightly – westseattleblog@gmail.com – thank you!

WEST SEATTLE HALLOWEEN: Seaview sights

Two Seaview sights from a texter:

A garden near 49th and Juneau appears to be growing a skeleton, while in the 6000 block of 49th SW, two giraffes are working on costumes:

Ten more nights until Halloween, and our decoration spotlights continue – more photos welcome via westseattleblog@gmail.com, or text 206-293-6302 – thank you! (And see our archived Halloween coverage, decorations and more, by scrolling through westseattleblog.com/category/halloween …)
