It’s West Seattle Summer Fest weekend, so we start today’s highlight list with a quick preview of day 2 …

SECOND DAY OF WEST SEATTLE SUMMER FEST: This is the biggest day of the three-day summer celebration presented by the West Seattle Junction Association. Some highlights:

Hours – 10 am to 8 pm, with food/drink continuing later, main-stage music until ~11 pm
Stages – Lineups here. Main music stage (co-presented by Canna) is on California north of Oregon, starting with Mode Music Showcase at 11 am; West Side stage (named for its sponsor, West Side Music Academy, not for its location) is in Junction Plaza Park, first music with Country Dave Harmonson at noon
Meditation – Before the West Side stage music, at 11 am Maari Falsetto will lead a free meditation/gong bath session

That scene outside Easy Street Records this morning is a reminder of West Seattle Summer Fest‘s origins – it began as a Junction-wide sidewalk sale decades ago. Some of the year-round merchants continue with sidewalk sales during the festival, which starts today and leads off our highlight list:

WEST SEATTLE SUMMER FEST AT A GLANCE: Official festival hours are 1 pm to 8 pm, with mainstage music and the beer garden continuing later. The festival stretches along California SW from the main stage (in the Post Office vicinity between Genesee and Oregon) to Edmunds, and along SW Alaska from the Kids’ Zone (California to 44th) to the food zone (California to 42nd). The city’s Summer Meals Program opens today at 70 sites citywide. Kids and teens ages 1 through 18 can get “free, healthy breakfasts, lunches, and snacks,” according to the announcement, which adds, “Each participant can receive up to two meals or one meal and one snack per day, to be eaten onsite.” The program will operate through August 23, and this page has multiple ways to find the site closest to you and the hours it’s open – West Seattle sites on the list include High Point Community Center, Highland Park Playground, Roxhill Park Playground, Salish Landing, and High Point Commons Park (opening July 8).
